Do You Need Your Own Domain Name?

12.30.2007

Should a domain name be unique?
A Domain Name is a unique address for your website's contents. This address is called an IP address. An IP address is made up of a series of numbers, however a domain name is used instead of an IP address because most people find it easier to remember a name rather than a number.
When visitors on the internet use your domain name they will be directed to your website.
Once you have successfully registered a domain name you can do the following with your domain name:

1.YOU CAN SELL IT - YOUR DOMAIN NAME IS A GREAT INVESTMENT
If you are not using your domain name someone else might want to buy it from you.

2.YOU CAN PROTECT YOUR BRAND ONLINE
a) You can register many domain names and so prevent others from registering a similar domain name than the ones you have registered.

b) You can forward all your registered domain names to your main domain name.

3. YOU CAN HOLD ONTO YOUR DOMAIN NAME
You do not have to rush to decide what you want to do with your domain name. You can park your domain name for the length of your registration with the Hosting Company from which you bought your domain name.

THERE ARE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF DOMAIN NAMES

1.TOP-LEVEL DOMAIN NAME (TLD)
a)a Top-level domain name is the part of the domain name following the name that you chose for example: .com .net .org or .biz .info .name and .ws These names have a certain guideline but are available to any registrant anywhere in the world.

b)There are restricted top-level domains that require the registrant to represent a certain entity type i.e. .edu for education entities and .museum for the museum entity.etc.

c)Country code top-level domains are for a particular geographic location of the registrant i.e. .bz for Belize, .ca for Canada, .uk for United Kingdom etc.

It is not easy to find a good .com domain name as all the good ones are already taken however try to persevere and find a domain name that describes the essence of your website's main concept.
Although a .com domain name is very popular you do not only need to register a .com for example should your business or organization be information orientated a .info domain name will be suitable.

2.SECOND -LEVEL DOMAIN NAMES (SDL)
a Second-level domain name is the part of the domain name that the registrant defines, usually the name of the organization , business or entity for example :
www.abcafrica.com - africa is the second-level domain name.

HOW DO I GO ABOUT TO REGISTER A DOMAIN NAME

You register your domain name with a registrar approved by ICANN - ICANN is an abbreviation for Internet Corporation for Assigned Name and numbers. It is important to bear in mind that if you wish to register a domain name for your e-commerce site that you choose a domain name that reflects the nature of you business closely. Try to stay clear of a domain name that do not reflect or describe the nature of your business or organization. A domain name that is easily remembered is always a plus. Try to keep your domain name short.

You have to buy your domain name through the particular Hosting Company of your choice. It is always important to choose a Hosting Company that automatically renew or send you a reminder of the date of renewal of your registration. You do not want your domain name registration to expire and be in danger to be grabbed by somebody else.

Get Domain Name: Choosing The Best Name For Your Business

A domain is the distinct identifier given to a website after it has been registered. The domain name as the identifier serves a significant role in pulling visitors into your site. As they say, a carefully thought, well planned, and efficiently named domain name makes a difference in terms of generating visitors on the site. So, how then does one know which is a good domain name and how can one get the best domain name for your business?
The enumerated items below explain the tips on how to acquire a good domain name.

• You should be able to come up with a domain name that is short and compacted. This means that you must try to refrain from trying to get a domain name that is too lengthy which is difficult for people to remember. Remember, the shorter the better because the easier people will remember it.

• When creating a domain name, you take the chances of putting relevant keywords on it. Remember, keywords can spell a difference in terms of being visible and searchable by most search engines. If you are not yet skilled into using keywords, I suggest that you begin studying the craft of keywords as these are indeed essential elements of online business.

• If you have something in mind that you really want and find that it has been taken by someone else, you can look for alternate domain names by searching the list of expired domain names. These expired domain names actually are to be sold back to the public so that they may be used again. Although, it may look awkward to be reusing a domain name that has been tagged and branded by other companies, what you can do is to slightly tweak the domain name to make it originally your business. The advantage of this is that you get a domain name that is already indexed by the search engines and you will have a head start in attracting traffic to your site.

UNDERSTANDING DOMAIN NAMES

UNDERSTANDING DOMAIN NAMES

As we know , there is nobody who controls the Internet. Then you might wonder as to who registers domain name the name to the users. An addressing system was designed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). The addressing scheme assigns names and numbers to identify the computes on the Internet. These names are called domain names and numbers are called IP addresses.

Every computer system on the Internet has both a domain name and an IP address. This address contains four sets of numbers separated by periods or dots. Each set of numbers can have the values ranging from 1 to 255. The numbers between the dots is called an octet. An IP address is organized from left to right where the leftmost represents the largest network organization and the rightmost octet describes the actual network connection. These combined parts are always unique for the given host. This Domain name scheme has been proved good but the numbers become difficult to manage and to quite an extent impossible to remember. A method for recognition of computers by names was therefore devised. A smaller network making up the Internet, and having many computers or even smaller networks within it, is called a domain. This domain may represent either a type of organization or a geographical location. Smaller networks and computers forming part of the domain may be further split up into sub domains. You should be cautious in the process of domain name registration, as the domain names are the key element used for searching and recognizing sites on the web presence effortlessly

Domain Name Service - Inevitable Heart Of Internet

DNS which is known as the Domain Name Service or the Domain Name System has been very essential Had it been not invented, today we would have had a great difficulty in making use of the internet. Only if our brains would have been like a computer, the there would have been a chance to remember the domain names which would be flooded with a flurry of numbers. The internet IP address which is of thirty two bits encodes 4,294,967,296 possibilities. So for humans, it is more than difficult to remember these many numbers. How could we have built a catalog of these many numbers? Even if we would have build, then too it would have been difficult to remember these many numbers.

This problem has been solved with the help of hierarchy of simple mnemonic names which are known as domain names. So, you need to remember ns.adnc.com instead of 205.216.138.22 and troubling yourself. Some people have this misconception that the dots which are visible in the domain name correspond with the dots in the IP address. It is extremely false as that is not the case. The three dots in IP address liberate the four bytes whereas the dots in the domain name are for variable number of periods. RC 1034 and RFC 1035 provide the significant DNS documentation. Domain name serve also plays an extremely crucial role in the Internet mail delivery. It is a kind of phone book. The networking hardware or equipment requires IP addresses for the delivery of the information or requests. So domain name serve helps to translate the human understood domain name or host name in to networks understood IP addresses. A list of mail exchange servers that accept e-mail for a given domain is also stored by the domain name service. It is an important component of contemporary internet use in offering world wide keyboard based redirection service. In terms of uses, its most basic use is to convert host addresses to IP addresses. In its broadest sense, it's like a phone book.

Let's take an example. Let's say you want to be aware of the IP address of en.wikipedia.org. So, domain name Service can be made use to tell you that it is 666.230.200.100. It has also other plenty of uses. It also is made use of letting the human organizations be aware of the various destinations of the internet. Domain name space comprises of a tree with full of domain names. Also, the node or the leaf of the tree comprised of various resource records. Resource records have the information linked with the domain name. It is further sub divided in to zones which has information associated with nodes. Just shortly after TCP/IP was deployed, Domain Name Service was invented. In its broadest sense, it was invented in 1983. In most of the operating systems, a host file still exists Some say its either by default or by configuration. It lets the user view the IP Address of that particular site in which they have logged in. The great man who invented this Domain Name Service is Paul Mockapetris. He invented at the request of another great man Jon Postel. He wrote the first implementation in 1983. RFC 882 and RFC 883 have the first specifications. So, to say in all, DNS is the inevitable heart of all internet applications.

How To Make Money With Domain Name Investing

Domain name investing is becoming a fairly popular way to make a lot of money on the Internet. It's relatively simple to get involved in and can pay rather big dividends for a very small investment. Understanding what it is and how it works can open the door for lucrative returns.

Getting into domaining, as it is called, requires nothing more than buying domain names and parking them via parking services. The other option is selling these domains to other investors. The practice does take a little effort to master, but it can be well worth the effort. Financial returns from domaining come in one of two ways - resale value or ad revenue.

Getting started in domain name investing involves buying the site names, registering them and then either parking or reselling the sites. How much money one can make depends on the traffic flow the domain name pulls in naturally or how sought after the name happens to be by others.

There are several ways to determine what kinds of domain names to buy and register. The most common ways center on "type-ins" or "typos." Typos are nothing more than sites whose names are similar to other existing websites or brand name products. The typo sites obtain natural traffic when people accidentally mistype website names or brand name product names into their search engines. This kind of buying tends to be a little tricky, most especially when brand name products are being used. Many investors don't like the typo route because of potential legal issues that can arise. Another option is to buy actual "type-ins." These are names that reflect common web searches. For example, "babygirlclothing" or other real terms and words that are used in searches are used for the domain names. This route is considered more above board. A final option for picking sites is to find those that were formerly used and still have traffic and backlinks. Buying these and parking or reselling them can return decent rewards.

There are many ways to go about buying and selling domains. Some investors buy names in bulk, using sites like Moniker.com. They then research the names to see if they have money-making potential. Other possibilities include going through domaining forums, like NamePros.com, DomainState.com or DNForum.com. These sites are frequently used to help people buy and sell domain names. On these sites, domain names are traded just like real estate might be. It is up to the buyers, however, to determine if a sale is legitimate or not. To help out, some of these sites offer ranking systems similar to auction sites might. Some buyers and sellers insist on using escrowing services to ensure smooth transactions.

Arriving at the real value of a domain name can be the hardest part of this venture. The price and value tends to hinge on what a buyer believes a name is worth. Buyers can, however, request revenue and traffic reports in some cases to help them figure a fair price.

After domains have been chosen and purchased, there are several ways to actually make money off them without doing too much work. Parking service sites are the most common way to achieve this. These services let investors "park" their sites with little or no content. This means the sites will pop up as a result of an Internet search. Although content doesn't come along with a parking package, a landing page can have text ads. The owner of the domain will get paid for the returns on the ads. Another option for making money involves nothing more than selling the names to other investors for further development or for them to park themselves.

There are a few rules of the road for parking services, such as Sedo and Parked.com, that need to be kept in mind. While these services will allow text ads on parked pages, they don't allow for a lot of backlink generation. They expect traffic to come in through natural, organic means. This means by accidental hits, normal searches or backlinks that were present from the past. It is possible to have pages taken down by parking services if they are generating more traffic than what comes naturally.

Getting into domaining can be one of the easiest ways to make money via the Internet. It requires very little effort. Using this practice to its full potential will take a little time. Although some forms are not considered as legitimate as other, the overall business is one that works quite well for many people.

The Easiest Way To Create Articles - Public Domain!

12.28.2007

There are many webmasters that find writing articles for their site to be a very tedious task. Many people who need to write articles also procrastinate as much as they can to delay the amount of writing they need to do. Many people dread writing articles because they find researching for the topic and writing down original materials will be too taxing on them.

You need to have your creative juices flowing and simply downloading an article would be plagiarism or tantamount to stealing, not exactly. Have you ever heard about public domain? These are articles written down by many authors that have declared their works to be public domain, which means anybody can use it for whatever purpose they want.

While most authors would prefer to copyright their work for their rights, there are also a number who doesn't mind sharing their work. Public domain articles are not owned by anybody and can be used and abused by anyone. The writers have waived their rights to their works and it is out there for the public to make use of.

You can use public domain articles in helping you write your articles. With the public domain articles you can simply edit them to your own style and rewrite them as you please to make it suitable for your needs. All the ideas are there already and its just a matter of finding the write article with the topic or subject you need.

This is probably the easiest way to write articles. You don't need to scour around the library or the internet for hours for information and start an article from scratch. For webmasters who are looking for articles to fill their site and to generate a high ranking for their website in search engine results, they can just modify the article by infusing keywords and keyword phrases related to their site.

A webmaster or website operator do not risk any chance of getting sued for copyright infringement because they are public domain, once again meaning that anybody can use it. Writing articles by using public domain wont require as much work as writing one from scratch would. You save a lot of time also.

One good factor in using public domain articles for your site or for any project is that you save a lot of money. You dismiss the need to hire experienced and seasoned writers that some website operators use to write their articles. While a single five hundred worded article would only set you down 10 to 15 dollars, this cost will drastically increase when you need hundreds of articles to fill the needs of your site.

For those who needs articles to generate newsletters or an e-zine, public domain articles will be very beneficial. You do not need to count on your contributors or pay writers to write down articles for your newsletter or e-zine. You can fill all the pages without any cost or the worry of being sued and sought after by the writers. You can simply copy the articles and place them on your newsletter and e-zine.

Public domain articles are a virtual untapped resource that many people fail to realize the true value. The power of articles, keywords and keyword phrases have been deemed invaluable these past few years for many internet based businesses and sites that want to rank high in search engine results.

The number of article and content writers have grown significantly due to the rise in the demand for articles. As newer and newer topics and subjects have arisen, there are many demands for new articles to be written. An industry has been formed and this is a worldwide demand.

Public domain articles have given a great alternative for those who are cash strapped as well as do not have the time nor the skills to do their articles for themselves.

Searching for public domain articles is as easy as 1 - 2 - 3. You can search for them in search engines and do searches in many directories for the topic or subject that you need. Read them and simpy copy paste them to a word processing program and simply edit them to suit your needs.

Laser Targeted Traffic Is The Only Sort You Want

The life blood of any website is traffic. With the traffic your website is a success without traffic your dreams of Internet success are destined to fail, but it is essential to get the right form of traffic. There are untold brokers and purveyors of traffic out there can promise to deliver traffic but very few of them can possibly deliver traffic to the same degree than those who sell traffic from expired domains.

The principle behind expired domains traffic is as follows. Every day there are thousands of domain names that for a number of reasons don't get renewed. In some cases this is deliberate, in others people just forget the number of domains they have. Whatever reason these domains don't get renewed is irrelevant but what is relevant is that is that in a lot of cases these domain names have existing traffic to some degree or another.

When the marketeer works his magic in this case is that you buy this existing traffic from the main names or associate domain names that would have a relationship to your business and get that traffic redirected to your main money site.

Let me illustrate further. You are about to launch a site on tropical fish. Now in the normal scheme of events you would purchase the domain name, design the site, and fill the site with unique copy or articles from a number of sources. Then you undertake your submissions to all the directories, possibly by some pay per click traffic from something like Adwords and sit back and wait for the traffic to arrive and the sales to be made.

Now there is another way, as we have said before you could purchase traffic from a different route. Now if we take a site about tropical fish we can then do some research into walked to my names are either coming up for renewal or have failed to be renewed.

In our case, for the sake of example, let's say a couple off the main aims have expired that relate to pet food supplies, tropical fish literature, whatever. These are Domain names that have been in existence a minimum of minimum of 12 months and possibly a lot longer. Thought I'll give Billy the same amount that you would have to put out front in your typical PPC campaign (pay per click) you may be able to purchase a group off expired domains or the rights to the traffic from these expired domains if this is all that is available.

Quite often in a matter of hours after your purchases have been made and the right DNS transfers have been made, your newly acquired traffic will start to arrive at your site. What in effect is happening is that people are trying to find the information that exists from the former pet food supplies site and are getting redirected to your site.

Where the really skilful marketeer profits in this scenario is that they pre book expired domain traffic first then built a money sign around the traffic.

Smart or what?

When You Need Multiple Web Hosting Accounts

Having 3 or five hosting plan, can easily cost you $500 dollars per year. And if you are running single website at each web hosting account, this will be a waste of space and money as well. Do consider to consolidate them into single web hosting account.

There is few web hosting provider that offering multiple domain hosting. Meaning that you can have multiple unique websites in the single hosting account. This mean you can have firstwebsite.com, secondwebsite.com, thirdwebsite.com and so on. Each websites can have their own email account, ftp account, webmail services, etc.

To have this multiple domain hosting features, you need to look for web hosting provider that have the addon domain features. If they write 10 addon domains, this will mean you can have up to 11 websites in your hosting account. 10 addon domains plus the primary domain that you get when register the hosting account.

There is little few hosting provider that offering unlimited domain hosting. Meaning that you can host as many websites or domain in the single account. And you can add more addon domains as you like. Some hosting will have unlimited domain hosting value set to 999, and this will mean you can have 999 websites in the account only.

If you are having many websites in single hosting account, the only thing that you need to make sure off is that you not heavily linking each sites together. Search engines like google not prefer links coming from same IP address, and on only that, this link can harm your website too. However, you still can have 900 websites on your accounts, and you must make sure they are not link together like a spider web or link farms.

After consolidation, your web hosting cost will drop, and you just save yourself some money.

Cheap Domain Name Registrar

12.26.2007

In today's competitive marketplace, one of the best tools for success any company can incorporate is the vast advertising and customer service potential made available by the Internet. Companies like eBay and Amazon have made fortunes through websites alone, while nearly all major corporations and many smaller ones have vastly increased their business potential by advertising online and opening up websites for features like online shopping, preordering, customer service, and any number of other features which would otherwise take a long phone call - often to limited support personnel - or a visit in person to the store location.

If you're interested in starting a website for your company or even just for your own personal use, there are a few things you'll have to do first. One of the first steps you'll have to take is to register a domain name. Domain names, also referred to as Internet or web addresses, are the lines you type into your browser to let it know where to go. These usually start with www, and end in .com, .org, .uk, or any number of other extensions. When you're starting a new website, you'll have to make sure the web address you want is not already taken by another website. First check on your own - type in the address you'd like to have, and see if anything comes up. Keep doing this until you find one that's not taken. When you have an address that works, it's time to go to a domain provider.

Different domain providers offer varying levels of service. Some offer only the bare service of registering the domain name, and require you to perform all requisite design and hosting operations on your own. Many offer web storage as well, allowing you to use their servers to store your website. Unless you have the kind of 24 / 7 Internet access and server technology it takes to host a website yourself, you're going to have to use a web hosting company to keep your website online. Some web hosting companies even offer web design services for an extra fee, allowing you to focus on nothing but the actual content of your site, while others may register you for access by popular web search engines.

When you're looking for a web hosting service, it's a good idea to find one that offers telephone support. If something goes wrong with your website, you don't want to spend hours trying to figure it out online yourself - instead, you want to be able to call the service directly and talk with a real person who can help you solve your problems.

You may also want to consider using a local UK based service rather than overseas companies such as those found in the US or India. Local web hosting services are more likely to understand your specific needs and the unique aspects of web hosting in the UK. ICANN accreditation is especially good to look for, as are local TLD accreditations such as that held by the massive UK Company Nominet. Nominet is responsible for the .uk web suffix, and is the fourth largest registration company in the world.

Prices vary widely depending on how much and how good the service is that you expect to get. For a simple registration - keep in mind that this requires you to have your own server and design technology - companies like Nominet may charge as little as two or three pounds a year. If you're looking for the more standard options, though, including web hosting and search engine registration, expect to pay around ten pounds a year. Considering cable and broadband bills these days, ten pounds is pocket change. So register your website today and place your company on the cutting edge of the modern marketplace.

Domain Names And Search Engine Ranking

Does the length of your website's domain name registration affect search engine optimization and results?

Should you renew your domain name for a long period of time? And if so, how long is long enough? If you want to stay ahead of your competition, then you might consider looking at the length of time your competitors have registered their domain names. If your competitors have generally renewed their domain names for one or two years, you might consider registering your domain name for 5 or 10 years. While putting off your domain name's expiration date might help your search engine rankings, keep in mind that this may be only a small victory when it comes to search engine rankings.

Its good business sense to register a domain for at least 10 years. You don't want to deal with the process annual process of renewing them every year. It's best to obtain the domain names that you want to keep for a while and renew then on a 5 to 10 year plan.

If your domain name expires, there's a good chance that someone will register your domain name immediately after it expires. If, for whatever reason, you don't renew your domain name, someone watching a 'watch list' of expiring domain names will try to capitalize on the online business that you've built over the years. They know that there is potential website traffic they can have simply by renewing your old domain name. By renewing your domain name for several years, your domain name won't expire for a while, and it won't be opened up to expired domain name buyers.

If you really want to stay ahead of the competition, you might consider registering or renewing your domain name for 100 years. Currently, Network Solutions (www.netsol.com) is the only registrar offering the 100 year option, which costs $999.00. GoDaddy (www.godaddy.com), currently offers to renew or register a domain name for 10 years, at a discount of $6.95 per year.
Yes, you can lose critical positioning in the search engines if you don't reregister your domain name in time. You may have to start the SEO process all over again!

Domain Names: What's Hot, What's Not

A online business opportunity website, for whatever reason, needs a domain name. Choosing the right domain name is a very fundamental decision for your venture--it can make or break your website traffic and, generally, your website's success. These are a few suggestions to help you navigate the domain name minefield, select the right name, then help create your own online business ventures a complete success.

If you are going to read any home business opportunity review, what will it probably tell you? Perhaps it will tell you that you do not have to use your enterprise name for your domain name, especially if it is difficult to spell and quite lengthy. Domain names, in general, must be alluring as well, so people will find your website definitely interesting.

Domain names for your home business ventures must not contain double letters. Using Joe's Store as your domain name probably will not work well for you. This is due to the fact that they may be confused between keying in Joestore.com or Joesstore.com. The double letters cause confusion, which can decrease your traffic.

In case you do not know, personal names make you unique from other individuals out there. The same idea applies to domain names for varying online business ventures. You may partner your chosen domain name to other extensions such as .com, .net, .org, to name a few. If there are some outcomes, then yours is not unique and you have to modify it.

Because a lot of Web users are well versed with .com, then you must utilize this for your domain name--no other extensions.

Keyword-enriched domain names are more effective if you are really going for search engine rankings for your online business opportunities. To pick the most appropriate, you can scout from one of those keyword selector programs. If your keyword is composed of two words, make use of a hyphen. But closed spellings are suggested.

You do not create a very good impression out of your long domain name. It can even be a dilemma for you. Thus, if your website title is long, try to offset it with a very simple domain name.

Do buy your personal domain name. What's easier to recall: www.hostserver.com/online-deals.html, or www.online-deals.com? Ensure you have your own domain name and are not merely acquiring space on others.

If you definitely like your little part-time income to become huge, then you better consider your marketing skills. Probably, you have to be more popular to your clients. This you can attain even with simply a very effective domain name.

Using Subdomains—benefits And Drawbacks

12.25.2007

Most businesses don't like to use subdomains because they feel like they give them a disadvantage in many areas, such as having a prefix name before your web-site, being ignored by bots and index spiders in search engines and all in all, it just doesn't look right. So let's check our facts on subdomains.

A subdomain is substitute or second-level of a domain. A regular domain looks as follows: www.jamesbrown.com . A sub domain looks like this

http://bravenet.jamesbrown.com. Subdomains do not have www on the front of them. All subs start with "http://subdomain/maindomain.com pattern of identification.

Subdomains rank efficiently well. Search engine spiders and bots are not prejudiced when it comes to the ranking of subdomains and regular domains. As long as your site has the right SEO keywords and has been optimized, whether you have a subdomain or regular domain name doesn't make a difference at all.

Let's pretend that you site has a lot of categories in it. If you were to submit to a search engine, you could submit each subdomain as its own individual category and still get a good ranking. Each subdomain would be looked at by search engines as a new site with its own index or home page. You may want to try creating subfolders on the subdomain to get around this so that search engines can read the folder as one set of site information.

People worry about their subdomain getting banned if the main domain name is banned. If the main domain is banned, it will have an effect on the subdomain. You see this happen often in adult content sites that have violated certain agreements that they have signed with a provider that does not want a domain used for adult material.

Again, there is nothing wrong with using a subdomain. If you want to develop each subdomain as its own entity, then by all means, do so. If not, get yourself a main domain name and use that as a certified landing page.

Identify With Your Domain Name

Use common sense when choosing a domain name because your domain name, or URL, can have an impact in both the online and offline marketing of your web-site. Long or difficult to spell domain names can make people ignore your web site and it has to be pretty good for them to stick with it (for an example, go to www.thedolphinsmakemecry.com website. Short domain names register better with people's memory and are easy to remember.

Obtain a domain name that will help you in your marketing niche and strategy. Like I stated before, you can use your business name as your URL. If your business name is already taken by someone else then get a URL name close to what you are doing. Purchasing a business name domain name isn't the only way to go, and when a keyword domain name could do just fine.

If you plan on using the .net extension, you may want to wait on deciding your name until after you have found an available domain name that is suitable to your type of business. If you follow the steps below, you should be okay in identifying your name brand to the internet community.

Structure Your Brand Name - Put your domain name on your letterhead, business card, printed materials; put it on your phone recording, the side of your car; don't forget to include it with your email.

Keep it Short & Memorable - Don't get a URL that uses all 26 letters of the alphabet.

Secure a .com URL - I strongly recommend purchasing a .com domain name as opposed to a .net, .info, .biz or anything else. If your chosen domain name is not available in a .com, keep looking until you find one that isn't taken. There is nothing wrong with the other extensions but when you have a .com extension, it sounds like you've been on the net a long time.

Remember, your domain name is an extension of your business and your brand of product or service.

Domain Name And Why?

12.22.2007

Starting with the domain name, first you need to pick a subject for your site. In this article, gardening will be the subject. Keeping in mind the search engine optimization or seo one of the first thing is to get key words for the subject. Google has a good web master tool section that can help you with keywords.

I put in the subject gardening in Google keyword search and this is what I found.

gardening better homes and garden indoor gardening

gardening supplies gardening tools gardening gifts

gardening plants gardening seeds gardening flowers

gardening tips

Keep your keywords to only 10 and use them in your site, articles, and the domain name. Now we have the keywords what can we do for a domain name.

The site is about gardening tips. The keyword gardening tips is one of the top search words. Now vary this a bit such as Gardening and Tips.

Then the domain name would be www.gardeningandtips.com. One thing we will have to go to the hosting site that you will be using and see if it available if not they will give some suggestion and variations on the name to help. Remember you do not have to go with .com to get on the Internet. There is .net, .info, . Biz and more.

You will then want to look at the hosting packages to see what is going to fit the site. One thing to keep in mind is that you might want to improve the site. Possibly down the road put in a small gardening shop. Make sure the hosting package is large enough to handle all the possibilities that could be done with the site. Depending on how many pages and the information in there will be important when getting a hosting package. If you decide that you would like to setup a e-commerce site for example, make sure that there is enough database support for your potential improvements.

Most of the hosting packages come with email accounts. You will be able to set an email account with your domain name. If you want your visitors to be able to have an account with email with the site, make sure you get the email package that will handle all this. In most cases however, you will need to set this email configuration for visitors manually. You should check to see if you can have this done automatically.

Another important aspect to consider when choosing a hosting package, is the bandwidth limits of the package. The last thing you want to have happen is your site going dead due to bandwidth limit being reached. This can quickly kill a domain name and a site, and make all of the hard work you have put into a site seem futile and meaningless. Keep a close watch on it. This should be the most important item to watch besides when to pay your hosting provider.

Last but not least, check out your hosting provider. How long have they been around? Are there any reviews on them? Are they all good or bad? This could be an issue. If a company has nothing but good reviews, then chances are that the reviews are fake. Remember, you can't please everyone all the time.

Domain Investing: A Tsunami Of An Opportinuty For You

Internet domain names can be worth a lot of money. The most expensive one to date was resold for $7.5 million in stock options in 1999. Domain names are valuable because even without advertising, they can still attract clients looking for services and products. Speculating in domain names was common in the heyday of the dot-com era, but experienced a slump for several years.

Now, this money making opportunity is seeing solid growth once more. As much as $500 million dollars changes hands through domain name resale. Every year, registered domain names are allowed to lapse - to the point where 40,000 domain names are dropped every single day. This number is expected to double in 2008.

Buying and selling domain names is a speculative investment, a lot like "flipping" real estate. As of late 2006, there were an estimated 10,000 individuals worldwide who bought and sold domain names as a business venture. Many domain investors prefer to remain anonymous, since this is a competitive market.

For the last few years, these smart, lucky investors have been making cash reselling high-demand domains. Many people's eyes are being opened to the opportunities in domain name selling. A smart investor can turn as little as $15 into website traffic and cash. This is less money than needed for any other type of investment. Returns on your investment can go as high as 2500%.

Even someone with minimal Internet knowledge can turn a profit in this business. If you're looking for an opportunity to earn money through the Internet, domain name sales could be what you've been waiting for. Domain names are hot, profitable, and in demand. The real estate of the Web, they've been delivering higher returns than even conventional real estate.

Unlike the domain name boom in the 1990s, where domain name speculators bought domains in the hope that one of them would be the next big thing, current investors are able to cash in on the new online advertising boom. Thousands of the domains that expire daily were promoted by their original owners. These sites already have a linking structure and search engine traffic. This is the opportunity for you to profit from the webmaster's negligence.

When you but this domain, you can use all the traffic it brings to secure profit for yourself. The majority of these domains are available for as little as $60, including the annual domain fee. With this little money, you can redirect traffic to other sites, use a domain parking service to generate passive income, or resell the domain name to a company looking to start or expand its website.

Domain name investing is the next big source of online profits. The market is ever expanding, and the amount of money needed to invest is lower than any other kind of investing. This $500 million dollar business is expected to at least double in size in the next year. If you would like to get started in domain name investing, you can find more information, and the secrets to finding the right domain, at http://www.shawncasey.com/domprof2. Don't be left out of the rush for the real estate of the Internet.

Domain Registration: Why You Need Private Whois Service

Privacy is the control of one's own personal information, control over what others know about one, and control over how others may use or exploit the personal information. Policies and practices for protecting privacy aim towards minimizing the collection of personally identifiable information. Therefore, the basis of privacy is anonymity, where no personally identifiable information is collected. Making compulsory, the disclosure of personally identifiable information, as under current WhoIs policies for domain registration, cause privacy to be undermined

For free speech, privacy is critical. For instance, if people are forced to disclose their identity, they are reluctant to fully express their ideas on account of fear of persecution.

The protection of anonymity further enhances the one-to-many characteristics of the Internet through which an individual's speech can reach a global audience.

Privacy and data protection laws may apply to domain registrars' WhoIs services and registrars' participation in thick registry WhoIs services in various countries, particularly in the European Union's member states.

Current ICANN regulations require that the Private contact information (WhoIs Info) of each domain registration be included in a publicly accessible Database.

The WhoIs database is the collection of information gathered by a domain name registrar from domain name registrants.

The purpose for which the WhoIs system is accessed includes:

1. To find out whether a specific domain name is unregistered and currently available
2. To identify the person or organization responsible for a domain registration or website on the Internet
3. To support technical operations of Internet Service Providers or network administrators, including assistance in tracing sources of Spam or denial of service attacks
4. To collect names and contact information for the purpose of marketing
5. To aid government law enforcement, other than intellectual property

When a WhoIs search is conducted, the information that is currently available about the domain name registrant leads to the name and address of the domain name owner.

However, when a domain name is registered, the personal contact information such as name, address, email address, and even phone number might be made freely available.

The domain registrant would not know who collected his/her WhoIs data, the reason for which the information was collected, and how the collector is likely to use the information

This implies that the private information is displayed and made available to whoever wants to see it, at any point of time.

Now it is possible to protect one's private WhoIs information by switching the "public" domain registration to a "private" unlisted registration through a private whois service.

A private whois service protects the private information and shields against its misuse. Hence, one is protected against:
- Spam,
- Identity Theft,
- Data Mining,
- Name Hijackers,
- Etc.

It works in a similar way to having one's phone umber "unlisted" and it prevents people from gaining access to one's address, phone number and other such private information.

A private whois service works by:
- Protecting the private information
- Relaying important communication
- Providing greater control

Protecting the Private Information

This implies that the private contact information is not exposed and is held confidentially, and protected by the Domain Privacy Protection Service. Instead of the individual's contact information, their contact information is displayed to provide with the highest level of protection against spammers and identity theft.

Relaying Important Communication

Without a private whois service, those involved in spamming can obtain email addresses through harvesting and then use these for sending spam mails and redistribution to marketing firms. The email addresses can stay on record with various spammers and marketing firms for several years. With a private whois service, the visible email address is constantly changing, so it will change within a specific period of time and the previous address will not work for the spammer. The Domain Privacy Protection Service secures and maintains the real email address on record so that important information regarding the domain is received.

Providing Greater Control

The individual or organization subscribing to the private whois service retains full legal ownership and control over the domain registration. It is possible to sell, renew, transfer and change settings to the domain name just the same as otherwise. The domain control panel provides real-time access to easily manage the domain name.About The Author: Copyright © Active-Domain.com's Domain Registration (http://www.active-domain.com) Service. Domain Registration - Choosing A Good Domain Name

One would think that registering a domain is the first step when setting up your website. This is not quite true. Hopefully you had done your research first to identify your niche keywords, in other words, the primary key terms that people are looking for in relation to your business.

Your domain name should reflect what your site or your business is about. It should be descriptive and easy to remember. If you can register your domain name by using your best niche keyword you will also score a few points in trying to get your site high up in the search engine rankings.

Just note, however, that while this was especially true a couple of years ago, the prevalence of garbage made-for-adsense type of sites to try and register a domain name with keywords in have led to this factor being overused and abused. Search engines are wising up to the fact that a domain name like www.red-widgets-blue-widgets-purple-widgets-cheap-widgets.com might not really be a real business and you should therefore be careful not to STUFF your domain name with keywords.

Here are some tips to choosing a good domain name:
1) If your company has a distinctive name that you use in your marketing campaigns, and if your company is well known among your customers it is best to try and register your company name as your domain name. For example, it will be better for Standard Bank to register standardbank.co.za as opposed to bankingservices.co.za. Branding yourself as a company that provides a specific service is very important.
2) But if your company does not have such a strongly branded presence in the market, or if you are offering a product or service that you specifically want to market through the internet without even HAVING a company, then a descriptive name might be a better option (e.g. www.health-products.co.za)
3) Hyphens are easier to read in print, are easier to 'understand' by the search engines (remember that a key linking strategy is to have text links contain your targeted keywords. If your domain name is legible to search engines and it is used to link to your site, you score some points since your keywords are already contained in your domain name), and gives you more choice. The negatives about hyphens are that they are difficult for people to hear! You will probably have difficulty in spelling out your domain name over the phone or in conversation when it contains hyphens.
It is also true to say that a name without the hyphens are also seen as being more professional (often the hyphenated name is seen as being a bit johnny-come-lately as well as spammy due to the reasons mentioned above). Search engines are also getting more and more proficient in understanding text that are embedded within domain names (even without the hyphens) and using a hyphenated site purely so that the search engines can understand them is probably not necessary these days.
4) But a good piece of advice is that when you register a domain name is to register as many variants (with hyphens as well as without hyphens) and as many domain extensions (.com, .net, .info, .biz) as you can afford. Registering domain names are really not that expensive and you will be protecting the investment into your company and your website brand. Remember that there are unscrupulous domain squatters (typo squatters) out there that will register variants of your domain name to either try and sell it back to you at a high cost, or to try and capture some of your traffic.
5) It is extremely difficult to come up with a good .com domain name these days. Most good domain names have been taken already. Here is a good resource page that contains a list of language tools that you can use to try and mix and match words or portions of words to come up with a good domain name. http://marcusvorwaller.com/blog/archives/2005/08/09/how-to-find-a-great-domain-name/
6) If you are located in a country other than the United States, always try and register your domain name with your local Top Level Domain extension (e.g. .co.uk, .co.za) since the local version of Google will give preference to names with extensions matching your own country.

7) Always try and register your domain with an independent registrar and NOT with your hosting provider. If you ever want to move your website to another hosting provider, it will just be easier to do it if your domain name registrar is also not your hosting provider. You might find it more difficult to get your website away from a bad hosting provider if they have control over your domain name as well.

Domain Name – An Introduction!

A domain name is a name that identifies one or more IP address. These are mainly used in URLs to identify particular web page. Domain names are a key component to a web presence.

Basically, domain names convert the numerical format that computers use to identify a website into a text based name that is easy for human users to understand and recall.

The domain registration market is now very competitive with many thousands of services operating around the world.

Domain names now have many forms known as Top Level Domain Types or TLD's. The best known TLD remains .com but regional names are a rapidly growing area such as .co.uk's

Discount Domains is a leading UK domain name registration service and offers web hosting and web design services as well as domains.

The various chief type of domain name includes:

.gov - Government agencies
.edu - Educational institutions
.org - Organizations (nonprofit)
.mil - Military
.com - commercial business
.net - Network organizations
.ca - Canada
.th - Thailand
.in- Indian
.info- Information

.COM: - The term is used for commercial purpose. Domain names with the .com extension are by far the most popular, and can be purchased by any individual or business. This is mainly used form personal as well as professional purpose

.NET: - The term is used for network purpose, hence, it is referred .network. This domain extension was originally designed for technical related websites. However, domains using this extension can be registered by anyone.

.ORG: - This is related to organization. Hence, it is referred as. organization. This is originally designated for non-profit firms and any other organizations that did not fit under the .com or .net extension; any individual or business may now register a .org domain name.

Domain name can also be assigned using country extensions. Each country has its own domain extension, for example for India it is "in", for Canada it is "ca", for Japan it is ".jp" etc..
In addition to this, there are other domain names, that has been designed for specific use only and they are not country specific. These are only accompained by certain restrictions.

Despite, the above-mentioned categories of domain names, only the .com, .net and .org are typically the most visible and talked-about extensions. These are not the only ones available for use. From a functional perspective, country-level domains work just as well as any TLDs, and alternative extensions work just as well. Therefore, don't necessarily settle for a mediocre TLD when you can get a better one using a different extension.

The selection of domain names is a major consideration when doing business online, and it is often one of the first issues to be addressed. While a good domain name won't guarantee success, it can have a positive (or negative) impact on almost every aspect of online business.

A "good" domain is one that is easy to remember and minimizes confusion. If you are acquiring a name that has the potential to cause confusion, it is generally recommended that you obtain the most logical variations This often includes non-hyphenated and hyphenated variations, along with words that are phonetically similar and common misspellings.

100 Million Domains

A brief history of the establishment and growth of the system of assiging unique addresses to Web Sites on the Internet, that we now know as the Domain Name System (DNS).

The U.S. Defence Information Systems Agency created the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) in 1972. This authority was responsible for assigning the unique address (string of numbers) for each computer connected to the Internet.

In 1983, the University of Southern California tested their Automated Domain Name System, in which readable names were used instead of clumsy strings of numbers such as 657.239.038.6.

1985 was the birth of .com and domain names. These addresses mostly belonged to the US government, mainly military. It was not until 1990 that the Internet went commercial, and it was the following year, 1991 that the World Wide Web (WWW) was introduced. The first WWW software was created by Tim Berners-Lee.

In the following year, 1992,the U.S.'s National Science Foundation (NSF) granted an exclusive contract to Network Solutions Inc., to be the sole registrar for the Top Level Domain (TLD) names .com, .net, .org The NSF maintained a central database of domain names called WHOIS.

For each new Domain name a $100 fee was charged. This fee also allowed for a two-year Registration period. Each additional year after that was charged at the rate of $50.

The rate of domain name registrations in May of 1993 was reported as 400 per month. In September 1994, Network Solutions Inc., reported that it was registering domain names at the rate of 2,000 per month.

Network Solutions Inc.(NSI), maintained its monopoly over TLD name registrations up until 1999. It was in that year that the U.S. Department of Commerce dismantled NSI's monopoly and opened up a competitive market for .com, .net and .org domain names.

The rigid pricing, poor service and frustrating delays should now all be in the past with the now competitive service operating. Unfortunately, however, I continue to hear stories of registrants (or resellers for registrants) charging like wounded buffaloes and giving lousy service.I give an example of this on my web site ianswebsites.info.

I have called this article 100 Million Domains.

At the time of writing this article, (first half of 2007),there are not 100 Million Domains. There is only a mere 65 million. But, when I give you an indication of the incredible growth of Domain Name Registrations, I am sure you will agree with me that we will soon reach the 100 Million Domains target. On the 6 March, 1997, the one millionth domain Name was
registered. On 4 May the following year 1998 the two millionth domain name was registered. It was on 6 November the same year that the three millionth doman name was registered.

9 March, 1999 saw the four millionth, and 29 May the five millionth. April the following year, 2000 saw the ten millionth Domain name registered. And now in 2007, around the 65 millionth mark.

If you graph these statistics, you will see a very steeply rising curve. We may even reach the 100 Million Domains target by the time you read this article.

If you would like further details of the actual Domain Name milestones, I give them on my web site 100MillionDomains.com

The billions of Internet users everywhere are now able to shop for competitive pricing and great service. You are no longer limited to a monopoly of a single private provider. The big guys, the well known guys, are NOT necessarily the ones that offer the best prices and service. Shop around, look at what is offered by the various firms and at what price.

Is Google having a tough time with their website limit?

12.21.2007

If you are one to pay attention to what happens within theGoogle realm, you might find yourself thrown for a loop thesedays. As Google updates their results, it seems like they arehaving some issues dealing with so many new websites popping up.

Indexing 8 billion websites is quite an accomplishment forGoogle. As they are reluctant to increase this number, they arefaced with many challenges in trying to keep some sites withinthese 8 billion pages while losing some others, after eachupdate they do to their database.

So how do you determine which listings to lose?

We've all heard of the "sandbox theory"! (New sites are added toa group of other new sites until a certain amount of time haspassed and you've proven your worth. Once you've proven yoursite is valuable, Google releases it within its regular searchresults).

It seems to me that if you don't own a large network of websitesthat can easily increase the websites link popularity overnight, your newly created website won't get hit as hard and is added tothe sandbox for only a certain period of time.

On the other hand, if you do own a large network of websites andincrease the amount of websites you have, your newly builtwebsite(s) will get hit harder and may take a lot more time andpromotional effort to get good search rankings results withinGoogle.

Let's take a look at why this may be true:

1st) It has been long speculated that Google searches throughthe "WHOIS" data base regularly ("WHOIS" - Contact record of whoowns a specific domain name). By doing this Google can now seewho owns what and how many domain names they own. By doing thisGoogle can now determine that "Company A" owns 25 websites. Thiscollection of 25 websites can now all be crawled to look forcontent copying, ghost pages, mimic pages, irrelevant linkdirectories, etc. By knowing that you own 25 websites, Googlecan quickly determine their worth and rank them accordingly.

2nd) With this knowledge provided by the "WHOIS" data base,Google can also see how many years you've registered each domainname for. For instance, if you register all your domain namesfor only 1 year, there is a possibility that you don't plan onusing these domain names for the long term. Instead, you may beusing these new domain names simply to keep up with new changeson the internet and new standards in search engine optimization.

On the other hand, if you register all of your new domain namesfor the next 5 years, it is more likely that you are going touse these domain names in the future. This now gives morerelevance to each domain name you register for more than 1 year.

I am now recommending to all my clients not only to make sure toregister a domain name related to their country (i.e. Canada =.ca), but to also make sure that they register their domain namefor 5 years. If you are truly serious about increasing yourbusiness online, why would you risk missing your domain namerenewals every year and possibly loose your domain name?

Google may also look at how long you've owned this website for!

It may be true that by adding your new website to the "sandbox",Google may also add your website to a "history report". Thishistory report can give their database detailed informationabout how old your website is. These days, I believe that ittakes about 6-8 months before Google updates your "historyreport". By updating, I mean possibly releasing your websitefurther within search results.

See, this combination of "who owns the domain", "how long willyou own the domain name", and "how old is the website", canprovide a more accurate report to Google as to whether or notthis website will survive, stay the course, or provide greatcontent. Through this "history report" and "sandbox report",your website will go through an "exam" after 6-8 months in orderto determine whether or not you are ready to play with the bigboys online or whether or not your website has what it takes tosucceed online.

Until Google increases the amount of websites it will indexwithin its results, we are all going to have to battle to stayon top. Internet marketing in general is becoming increasinglytougher with every month that passes. It has finally caught upto us and we are now starting to fight a hard battle.

One more thing you may notice:

Google's cache (Snapshot image of your website when it crawlsthrough) is becoming a little wonky lately. One day Google willhave an updated cache, the next day it won't have a cache atall, and the following day it will have a cache of your websitefrom 2 weeks ago.

What does this all mean?

When Google crawls a certain page, it looks at everything. Let’stake one specific internal page in your website. This specificpage may be ranked 10 different times within the search resultsfor 10 different key searches depending on the content withinthat certain page.

As Google increasingly fights to keep certain pages, its cachemay be having a tough time keeping up and delivering the mostrelevant cache to date. More times than not, the front page of awebsite doesn't have a cache at all anymore! This is veryinteresting. It may mean that your front page may not be the"key" anymore since more and more people are trying to crameverything under the sun within their front page.

It is possible that your "Main Sub-Categories" are weighinghigher in Google's eyes for the quality and relevance of yourinternal content.

What you want to do is to provide a clean map to all yourinternal pages. Your front page was the best solution forproviding a map to all of your pages. Maybe these days, yourfront page should be used only to link to your main"sub-categories" and also to show your most recent postedcontent!

I will leave you with this. If you are new online or even anexperienced marketer online, buying many new domain names maynot be the key to increase your success right now. Buying newdomains should be a long term investment. Try increasing thepopularity of your already established websites in order to gainmore exposure for your business. Owning more domains increasesthe amount of time and effort you need to promote each one. LikeI've mentioned many times before, owning a network of websitesis not enough! You need to expand your horizons online, increaseyour content and create more business partnerships every chanceyou have.

Sub Domains - An Inexpensive Solution To Grow Traffic

A sub-domain is a section of your main web site, set up andreconized as it's own cyber real estate. There is usally no costor very low cost to set up multiple sub domains on your hostingaccount. Sub-domains are folders located within a directory ofyour main site and carry a pre name to your existing domain.

Example .. http://www.masteradvertising.com is our main domainname. But we use many sub domain names for our research areas, script testing and growing development areas.

Such as .. http:/ raffic.masteradvertising.com (for our trafficexchange) http://mail.masteradvertising.com (for our membersfree mail service) http:/ eam.masteradvertising.com (for ouradmin team members) and so on ...

To best utilize your subdomains, it is important that they allremain on the same theme. Our site pertains to advertising. Itwould not benifit us to launch a pet store underpets.masteradvertising.com.

Each subdomain can serve as another gateway into your mainestablishment, for visitors, testing marketing stratagies, andsearch engines too!

Since creating content for a website takes time, oftenwebmasters simply modify the existing text of the main site andreuse it on the subdomain site. It is important that the contentis not exactly the same and that the subdomain does not simplyredirect to the main site. Otherwise, search engines may notindex them and you may even may even get tossed from the enginesdatabase.

Subdomain websites can be submitted to the search engines justlike your main site. If your website is doing alright in thesearch engines, then imagine having five more websites out therefor the spiders to find. Five more listings means that Websurfers have five times as many ways to find your network ofwebsites.

More and more search engine algorithms take into considerationthe number and ranking of sites that link to you. By linkingyour sub-domains to your main site and to each other, theranking of all of your sites is improved.

Your subdomains provide a great area for testing bannerexchanges and other advertising resource mediums, withotucluttering up the main site. Each sub domain will carry it's owntraffic statistics, and campains can be tracked effectiantly byones self with server stats or other preferred tracking methods.(Another article)

Get creative and branch your services and products out betweenyour subdomains and keeping them all connected via your mainsite. It will increase your keyword density and rankings per subdomain and most consumers are more confortable working with aspecialized area then a one-stop shop.

Adsense Money Maker Through Blog Niche Marketing

12.19.2007

You too can build a money making site from home, that will earnyou extra money for that vacation you want to take, for that caryou need to purchase or those inflating credit card bills.

First step: you need to pick a Niche market. What is a Nichemarket you may ask? It is a topic that is more focused, and doesnot take the general aspect of a topic. You want to picksomething that is out there, but is focused so you can get upthere in search engines and build traffic to your site.

Want an example of a Blog with Niche Marketing?

Mesothelioma Info and Updates athttp://mesotheliomainfoupdates.blogspot.com. This site taylorsto Mesothelioma, a rare disease caused by Asbestos, and the sitegoes in depth about the Niche Market of "PeritonealMesothelioma". Asbestos would be more of a General Blog withoutNiche marketing, while drilling down to "PeritonealMesothelioma" is a niche market.

Another example of a blog that is not Niche Marketing is theDomain Names and Web Design Info blog athttp://domainnamesatretail.blogspot.com. This blog is maintainedin a general sense that it discusses topics from Web Design, WebHosting and Domain Names to Money Making strategies. It is notfocused to one single topic.

Once you have picked your Niche market, you have to find out ifit pays well through advertising, and has actual advertiserswilling to pay you to advertise the site!

The Overture bidding tool will tell you just that! Go to:http://uv.bidtool.overture.com/d/search/tools/bidtool/

Type in your niche market term, and it will tell you how muchpeople on overture are willing to pay for each term. If it payswell, and is worth your while, then that will be your nichemarket you want to pursue.

Now you need to find the keywords you want to target and rankhigh for in Google. The suggestion tool located at will help youfind just that: http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/

Type in a keyword and it will show you what people search forand how many times per day. Pick a keyword that has a good dailysearch, but does not have too high of a number. This will allowyou to have a fighting chance to cracking the top position forthis search term. For example you may want something with about100 searches per day.

Once you pick one, go to http://www.google.com, and search forthat term and see how many results show up. If you have lessthan 1 million results, then that is ideal. Now take a look atthe current #1 spot. See their page rank and how many links theyhave. If you think you can outrank them, then you are good togo. Target that keyword with your Niche market, and your siteresearch is done.

Once you have the research complete, you set up a blog or website.

To Set up a blog, go to one that I use Blogger athttp://www.blogger.com. Set up your blog and begin posting in notime. Why El Cheapo Domains Will Cost You Money

You want your own online business? Good because it's one of themost fun things you can do with your spare time and can be veryprofitable.

Remember that just because it's an online business doesn't meanthat you should treat it with any less professionalism orseriousness than you do your daytime job.

Why? Simply because when you run an online business it's aserious business. Well it should be taken seriously if you wantto make serious money.

One of the most important aspects of any online business is thedomain name. This is where the vast majority of new onlineentrepreneurs make their first big mistake - they choose one ofthose free domain name providers to represent their businessonline. This is a critical mistake.

Let's say you're starting a computer repair business. Which oneof the following domains looks better:

'www.computerfixer.com' or; 'computerfixer.freehosting.com'

The truth of the matter is that computerfixer.com is a top leveldomain and computerfixer.freehosting.com is a sub-domain. Thesefree domain providers would have you believe that their cheaposubdomain is as good as a top level domain - this simply isn'tso.

Online shoppers expect your online business to be located on atop level domain. If they find your website on one of thesecheap or free domain services you've just lost 50% of yourpotential customers. They'll click back and look at the nextsearch result in Google, Yahoo or MSN.

Free domains make you look cheap, show that you don't want toinvest in your business, that you don't take your customersseriously, look terrible on business cards and make you looklike an amateur. There aren't any benefits to cutting corners onyour domain name.

A domain name costs, at most, $15 per year. That's 4 cents perday. If your business can't afford this then you reallyshouldn't be running an online business at all.

Multiple Domain Web Hosting

With low cost of domain names and low hosting fees it is commonto own several websites. There are a few ways to manage multipledomains. It's important to know the advantages and disadvantagesof each method.

The most basic choice is whether or not to administer yourdomains with the same host. Most web hosts offer packages whichcan be set up to allow several sites on one account, or allowindividual sites to be operated under separate accounts.

You may have an existing website and like the services your hostprovides. By starting a new website with the same host you getthe reassurance of dealing with a company you know. Sometimesyou may get a discount for every additional account with thesame host.

Using a different host for a new website will let you comparethe quality of hosting services offered by different companies. In addition, separate hosts will provide each of your websiteswith a different IP address.

Having different IP addresses is useful if you plan to link thesites together for search engine optimization. Incoming linksare very important: a website with many incoming links will geta higher position in most search engines. If the links arecoming from the same IP address their value will be discounted.

Hosting your websites with different hosting companiesguarantees that they have different IP addresses. An individualIP address is available at extra cost from most companies. For afee each website can have its own unique IP address. Having aunique IP address is required if you want to have a secureconnection (https) enabled on your site.

If you decide to host all your websites with the same company, there are three basic ways to go. Each site could have its ownaccount, you could sign up for a reseller account, or you couldget a dedicated server account.

Hosting all your websites with one host has a few advantages, but there is one major disadvantage - if your server goes down, all your sites go down. If you depend on your sites for incomethis can be painful and it's a good idea to have at least one ofyour sites with a different host.

Fresh and Original Content

Google love fresh and original content on web page, selectablecontent/text copy of your web page, google can't read content onimages or at pics.

Clean and Validated Code

Clean and validate code helps google to crawl deeply, try to putcontent at the beginning of your web page, ignore nesting, javascript or comments, in fact try to shorten the text formatwith the help of external CSS.

Easy and Accessible Navigation

Text or image base navigation helps google to read, google botcan't read javascript, dhtml, flash base navigation, try toavoid using these practices which google doesn't like. Keep yournavigation at top or left side of the web pages, make sure toadd a sitemap page which will guide web surfers and web bots toeach and every page of your website, if you have huge websitethen make sure to add at least all main categories' links atsitemap page.

Good Interlinking of Web pages

Web links are like roads and streets at website, make sure allwebsite's internal links are text base or image base, withrelevant content.

Healthy and Relevant Incoming Links

Google likes referred websites, specially referred from qualityand relevant resources. The more referrer links the more toprankings. Here one thing should be remembered that one relevantincoming links is better than hundred irrelevant links.

Domain Age and Registered Period For

Google started keeping new registered domains in sandbox sinceApril 2004, in sandbox almost all new domains kept onprobationary period for 6 to 8 months, in some cases for longerperiod, Sandbox domains don't get good rankings.

Google also likes to rank better to those domains which areregistered for longer period like for 5 or 10 years, becausewhoever registered domains for longer period shows how much s/heis serious with her/his business and most probably won't do SPAMwith those domains.

Same Contacts at Site and Domain Registration

Google likes true businessmen and a true businessman doesn'tmisguide his website visitors, google likes those websites whichhave physical mailing address to their contact pages and googlecompares it with that physical mailing address which is used indomain registering.

An Actor's Confessions Of Why .info Is Better For His Career

In 2002, a new top level domain extension called .info becameavailable for people to register with no restrictions. This newdomain option opened a whole new avenue for individuals who lostout in the .com registration process and had their desired namealready taken by someone else. According to a press releaseissued by the Afilias, an organization that provides globalregistry services for the .info extension, .info has recentlysurpassed 1,000,000 registrations since it's inception just overa year ago. The movement of the .info domain into the mainstreamhas been illustrated by companies using the extension for adcampaigns and by individuals using the domain for personal use. These individuals, often looking for a more fitting .comalternative, are also using the easy-to-remember .info names.

A more than fitting illustration of the .info creativeversatility is Jeremy Robinson, who is using a .info domain nameto break into the acting industry and one day fulfill his dreamof acting on Broadway. As an actor, Jeremy has made numerousacting appearances in theater including West Side Story, AMidsummer Night's Dream, Godspell, and Fiddler on the Roof. Hehas firsthand experience knowing that a .info domain name hasthe power to be an effective marketing tool when used in theright way.

DomainPurpose.com asked Jeremy Robinson a few questions abouthis new .info domain name. Here is what he had to say:

DomainPurpose.com: Can you tell us a little aboutyourself?

Jeremy Robinson: I have many years experience in theacting industry mostly involving theatre. I recently graduatedwith a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from The HarttSchool, a music conservatory in Hartford Connecticut . I amcurrently living in the New York City area to pursue my actingcareer, and I guess you'd call me a starving artist, going backand forth to auditions, waiting for that "big break". I aspireto be on Broadway one day so I can experience my passion foracting.

DomainPurpose.com: Can you tell us about your domainname?

Jeremy Robinson: My domain name is JeremyRobinson.info. Iuse my .info domain name on my resume and as an electronicportfolio so agency's and casting departments can contact me,learn about my acting talent, and view my headshots.JeremyRobinson.info enables me to give 24/7 access to castingdepartments who are looking for the acting talent and image thatI possess.

DomainPurpose.com: How did you think of this idea?

Jeremy Robinson: I didn't really think of using a domainname and web site as a way to promote my acting career until Icame across DomainPurpose.com. They gave me the idea to use adomain name as a tool to further my acting career.DomainPurpose.com inspired me to put my passion for acting onthe Internet in the form of a web site and share my talents withan online audience.

DomainPurpose.com: Can you share with us any obstaclesyou overcame while registering your domain?

Jeremy Robinson: Being that .com is the most popular andmost known domain name extension, I originally wanted toregister JeremyRobinson.com, but it wasn't available. When myfirst domain search returned the disappointing news, I had tofigure a way to keep my full name and brand intact. Afterlearning more about what .info had to offer, I chose the bestalternative to .com and registered a .info domain.

DomainPurpose.com: When did you realize that promotingyour acting career via a .info domain could turn into asuccessful marketing tool?

Jeremy Robinson: I realized that using a .info domainwould be an effective marketing tool when I started tounderstand the meaning behind the domain extension. I didn'twant casting departments and other people to think I was tryingto sell myself to them, so using .info gives the impression I'mlooking to give. So now when I give my web address out tocasting departments they know that JeremyRobinson.info is theplace to go to find out more information about me and my actingtalents.

DomainPurpose.com: As a successful .info domain nameowner, do you have any words of advice for others who arethinking about using a .info domain name as a marketing tool tohelp promote themselves?

Jeremy Robinson: A .info domain name is the perfectdomain extension for people who want to find information aboutyou and what you have to offer. Don't get discouraged if your.com name is already registered. Instead of being discouraged, rework your domain strategy by using the next best thing, a.info domain! It worked for me!

Cheap Hosting - 5 Things You Should Know

12.17.2007

You can't browse today without running into some cheap hostingreference, there are many cheap web hosting packages onlinebeing offered, but with so many options to choose from, it makescheap Internet hosting a totally confusing topic.

This may seem confusing to you, but it is actually costing manyonline marketers headaches, many of which could have beenavoided if they knew what to look for.

That is why I created this report to help you figure out the 5things you should know before choosing a cheap hosting package:

1) Required Bandwidth

This is the most important aspect of your business, if youexceed bandwidth your web host will shut you down withoutwarning. Well, that actually happened to me and I must say, Icould have avoided that if I knew how to calculate my bandwidth.

Formula for bandwidth per day: Total bandwidth = page views *visits per day * page size

If your site get 100 visits per day, 2 page views per visit andsite size of 35 KiloBytes: Total bandwidth = 100 * 2 * 35 = 7000KB = 7 MB (Megabytes) Per month: 30 * 7 MB = 210 MB (2.1 GByte)

You can host this site with a 5 GBytes cheap web hostingpackage, you will have enough bandwidth to host a small site, with considerations for expansion a 10GByte package would besufficient. But, why pay for only 10 GB, while you can get 250GBfor the same price, with a multiple domain name hosting plan.

We are referring to transfer bandwidth, don't confuse that withstorage.

2) Multiple Domain Names

Now, this is where the web hosting provider offers a cheaphosting package and adds multiple domain names to the deal, yougo wow, but that's the trap, you go and divide up your hosting, and

then when you least expect it, your account exceedsbandwidth.

To avoid this you need hosting packages that has over 100 GB oftransfer bandwidth to be able to host a minimum of 5 domains. For more domains you will need a much bigger package.

3) Unlimited Domain Names

This is just a catchy phrase that web hosting providers use tolure you in, it makes no sense going for unlimited domains whenyour transfer bandwidth is just 10 GB or 50 GB, that is just arip off.

Stay clear of those, they are not trustworthy.

4) Unlimited Bandwidth

No web hosting provider would be able to stay in business ifthey were to offer each client a unlimited cheap hosting packagefor just $7.95 per month.

They are hoping for many sign-ups, just to balance thedistribution, but if your web site really uses much bandwidth, they would easily shut you down, because your costing them money.

5) Storage

I must say, I have never seen anyone exceed the storage for anyhosting account, but if your into video or mp3, then you willneed o make sure your web hosting provider has adequate storagespace available.

You know experience is the master at learning what works, andwhat doesn't, should you do encounter a bad deal, don't mope, godo your own research and find a better host.

This report shows you exactly what to look before choosing cheaphosting, take your time and analyze your needs, but I recommendgoing with cheap Internet hosting provider that has more thenenough bandwidth for your future growth.

5 Easy Steps To Redirect Other People's Traffic To Your Website

Listen up I am going to share with you here a GREAT, EFFECTIVEand almost FREE way to drive targeted traffic to your businessAND get +100 link popularity INSTANTLY! Yes! This technique isthat simple AND powerful! And it's called: Expired DomainTraffic.

In the case you know abouttechnique, you find this article useful because it will show youa complete different view and allow you benefit from expiredtraffic in a more effective way you never thought possiblebefore!

Let's start immediately then with crucial facts you must knowabout:

Fact #1:

Every day +1000 of domains are forfeited by their owners whofail to renew or pay for the registration fees on their expiringdomains.

This creates an incredible, yet little-known opportunity for youto own a domain that may have been registered as long as 3 or 4years ago! Here are the current statistics:

Domains registered: 36,645,520 Domains deleted: 23,432,480

Fact #2:

4% of the total forfeited domain names are actually availableafter long years of promotion!

If you are the one to register it, you will get a popular domainname that still drive targeted traffic due to the huge linkpopularity it has. In other words, you benefit from thousands ofdollars and years of marketing promotion for you instantly!

Fact #3:

There are still plenty of excellent domain names out there! Youwill soon discover that all the best domain names are NOTregistered ...yet!

Prepare to be amazed!

"But What is the Expired Domain Traffic?", I hear you say. I'mglad you asked. :-)

The technique is to register domain names with existing trafficand link popularity and point them to your own websites.Resulting on an immediate targeted traffic boost, linkpopularity increase and additional advertising for almostnothing. It is that simple!

Now I think you realize the HUGE power of this technique.

With that said, let's go further. Unlike all the WhoIs websitesout there, you should not register any available domain name outthere and hope it will bring traffic to you.

No!

You need to register only highly valuable domain names. In otherwords, you have to locate the domain names with existingtargeted traffic and popularity first. "This sounds great!",you're probably thinking. But, how can you do that? Some workinvolved. Lots of profit potential.

With this crucial precaution in mind, we can start the processof redirecting targeted traffic to your own websites...

How to Locate Such Valuable Domain Names?

All you have to do is follow these simple 5-steps instructions:

Step #1. Compile a list of keywords:

You have to make a list of key phrases (not keywords!) relatedto your business. Each key phrase could contain 2 up to 3keywords. I suggest you make different combinations for everykey phrase. For example, let's assume you want "cooking" and"book" as keywords. Then you should include the following domainnames: "cookingbook.com", "cookingbooks.com" and"bookcooking.com".

You can even add different top level names: "cookingbook.net","cookingbook.biz" or "cookingbook.co.uk".

You can also use dashes (hyphens) in your domain names.

You probably heard some voices that will tell you to avoid them. But I think that it is useful for multiple domain names like weare looking for. Because dashes separate important keywordsmaking it more easier for search engines to index your web page. However, I agree that you should not use a hyphenated domain asyour primary domain. In our example, you can include:"cooking-books.com".

Step #2. Browse the WhoIs database for relevant domain names:

Now that you have created the domain names list, it's time tostart the search! You need to browse the WhoIs online database. The directory of registered and available domain names. Thereare plenty of these websites on the Net. Just check out theGoogle results for "whois search". I have listed some below tosave you time searching. While surfing the Internet, you can domore research on your own:

http://www.allwhois.com http://www.coolwhois.comhttp://www.whois.net whois.enom.com

Type in the domain together with the extension (.com or .net)for each domain names in your list. And report the availabledomain names in another list. You may call it: the DomainSelection List. You can also visit the deleted domains website. Here is the link: http://www.deleteddomains.com

The automatic search engine is worth the try.

Step #3. Select the most valuable domain names:

Before you go registering all the available domain names in your"Selection List". You need to pick out the most valuable ones.

Just point your web browser to http://www.google.com and use the"link:" operator to check out the popularity of a domain name. For example, search Google for "link:www.cookingbook.com"

The result is a list of the pages that link to the that domain.

The results page will tell you how many website are stilllinking to that domain name. Pick out those with the greaterlink popularity. And repeat this task for all the domain namesin your "Selection List". Upon completing the process, youshould find a wealth of optimized and valuable domain names!

Step #4. Register them!

You will need to register the domain names in order to pointtheir traffic to your primary website. The registration processlocks your domain name so that no one else can take it.

There are plenty of registration services online. You can searchGoogle for "domain name registrar" or you can simply use the oneyou are familiar with.

Step #5. Redirect them!

Here is where the fun begins. All you have to do is redirect theexisting traffic to your own website. And see your website hitsstats soar!

Please note that we are talking about targeted traffic not anyprospects out there. Because we have already selected domainnames for your specific keywords. During step #1. Remember?

So you can do that, if you just place a redirection page thatpoints to your official website into your "fresh" domain name!

Enjoy!

In closing... There you have it; 5 steps to unleash the power ofexpired domain traffic to your website.

Of course there's an automated, faster and powerful strategy tograb those valuable domain names. I will cover this strategy indetail in my website. I highly recommend you review it as soonas possible. See you there!

Introducing Yahoo! Sitemaps

Yahoo! has copied Google Sitemaps by offering an easy way tosubmit all your Web pages. It's a simplified version of GoogleSitemaps, a text file that contains a list of your site's URL's.

Previously, you could only submit your home page to Yahoo!. Now,however, in theory, Yahoo! knows about all your pages.

Like Google Sitemaps and any submission process, it does NOTguarantee that Yahoo! will crawl or index your pages, nor willit influence rankings for your keywords. But it sure is a greatway to put all your pages in front of Yahoo! in a singlesubmission!

Aside from a simpler format and lack of reporting (for now), theconcept is the same as Google. They know a human with rootaccess to your site is telling them about all the URL's. Thissaves a lot of submitting and spidering time. However, I stillrecommend that you submit your home page to Yahoo! in the normalway.

Creating and Submitting your Sitemaps File to Yahoo!

STEP 1: Create a text file (e.g. sitemap.txt) containinga list of your URL's, with one URL per line. If you have a sitewith hundreds or even thousands of pages, Yahoo! also recognizescompressed versions of this file (e.g. sitemap.gz).

Once created, upload this file to your domain root (e.g.www.yourdomain.com/sitemap.txt). If you have more than onedomain, simply create and upload a new Sitemap to each domainyou want to submit.

STEP 2: Log into Yahoo!'s Free Submit page with yourYahoo! ID and Password at: http://submit.search.yahoo.com/free/request

If you don't have a Yahoo! account, or don't use Yahoo! Mail, you will need to create an account by clicking on the "Sign Up"link.

STEP 3: Submit your Yahoo! Sitemap URL by pasting the URLinto the "Enter your URL" box. Repeat for each domain you havecreated a Sitemap for.

That's it... Nothing more to do except for updating this fileeach time you add or remove pages from your site, so to keepYahoo! informed of the changes.

Global Domains International - The Internet Goldrush Is On!

12.16.2007

Global Domains International (GDI) is making Internet superstars out of complete beginners. People with absolutely NO experience are having wild success with GDI. Global Domains International has compiled all 5 necessary ingredients for a successful business start up. The results have been tremendous to say the least.

First, a business needs a product to sell. Every business sells something whether it is a product or a service. That should be the first thought through your mind when considering starting an Internet business. Global Domains International has done this for you. The product is built in to the system you get with membership.

Next, that product needs to have appeal to the masses. Your product needs to be helpful to your customers, something they need and want. The appeal will be that they cannot live without that product. Global Domains International has also built this in to their system. The products supplied have been researched to be appealing to just about everyone.

A business should have a low start up cost. Better yet, no start up cost at all. When a business first starts up, the owner is operating on a shoestring budget. GDI knows this and has designed their system to have absolutely no start up costs whatsoever. You hit the ground running and hopefully never stop. Global Domains International has taken the money factor out of the mix so anybody can do it. You deserve to have the best life has to offer and now you can start your journey for free.

Now that you have your product, the product has mass appeal and you have started up free of charge, the product needs to have real value so that people will want to pay for it on a monthly basis. This increases your income and takes it to the residual level. This means that you receive money every month from every product you sell through GDI. Your income needs to be recurring, not one time and good bye Charlie. Look at any successful business if you don’t believe me.

Now you will need an automated delivery system that takes your product global. Global Domains International’s products are sold worldwide every day. They can be sold in any country anywhere. But how do you ship to other countries? You don’t have to because the product is delivered electronically as well as instantaneously. Your customer pays you right now, so they should be able to take delivery right now. With GDI, that is exactly what happens. GDI offers a completely automated delivery system as well as a promotion system to help you find those prospective buyers.

These are the 5 ingredients to successful business start up. Even total newbies to the Internet can do this with very little trouble. Notice I didn’t say “without doing anything” because that would not be true. So what do you have to do? All you need to do is have a desire to succeed and then take action. The rest will follow naturally. Just a little effort on your part with promoting and advertising and you, too can succeed.

Directories And Traffic

Directories and Traffic By Clare Lawrence

Submissions to directories can be an effective method to boostyour websites ranking.

Google the leading search engine places significant importanceto text links that contain key words (also known as anchor textlinks)

Google places particular importance on links on pages of aredial there.

Provided a directory has suitable categories and sufficientcontent for Google to classify its theme then it’s probablyworth submitting to.

Paid versus free listing?

There are literally 100’s of free directories out there, so youdon’t have to pay.

The larger and more popular directories such as Yahoo do chargeand dependent on your budget this may be worthwhile, particularly for e-commerce related sites.

Instant Traffic Using Expired Domains

12.14.2007

Getting free traffic to your website is a lot of work. If you don't have the money to spend on full blown PPC (pay-per-click) campaigns like Google AdWords, free traffic exchanges are a great way to get the traffic you need.

Seeing as how your attention was drawn to this free information you are probably own a website or are involved in some type of internet marketing.

International Web usage is seeing declines in the summer months as well. Between mid-May and July of 2002, Russia reported a twenty-percent decline in summer Internet usage. Sweden saw its summer traffic stifled by eighteen-percent as early as July 1999, and many other countries around the world are feeling the hit of summer traffic reductions as well.

Buy traffic - There is one fast way to deliver traffic by the thousands to your website within 24 hours. Buy traffic from traffic brokers. Most traffic brokers show your website as a full page pop-under without the internet explorer bar on selected type of geo targeting and category.

Instant Traffic Using Expired Domains

Every day thousands of domains 'expire' and are put back into the pool of available domains that anyone can register. They can be very valuable if you are looking for a quality domain for your online business, or if you want to re-sell them for profit. But wait! There is another huge advantage to a domain that was previously owned -- Instant Traffic!

As I said above, expired domains have all been owned by someone in the past. Many of these previous owners built Websites for these domains, advertised them, registered them with search engines, and even exchanged links with other sites. All translating into traffic to that domain name.

Now, why would someone who took the time to do all that work let the domain expire? It could be one of several reasons:

* the author simply lost interest * an online venture ran out of funding * poor management of the domain * they couldn't afford the fees

Similar to browsers who walk into the high street shops to "Touch and Feel" the merchandise.

Quality Incoming Links - Having a number of incoming links from reputable websites in the same topic area of your website is crucial. Having links from sites with Page Rank 3 or greater, will help your search engine rankings enormously.

There may well be over 1000 search engines and indexes on the internet. However, there are only a dozen engines with any real clout. Google and Yahoo dominate the web in terms of traffic, followed by a raft of medium sized search engines.

It is common knowledge that without traffic we have no business. Like any business, without any customers you don't get sales. Traffic represents all the people that gets a chance to see what you have to offer.

Whatever the reason, it happens. And you can reclaim some of the wasted traffic and use it to your advantage. You can either point it to your existing site or use it to jumpstart and add value to a new site.

How do you know if an expired domain has traffic?

While there is no way to gauge the actual amount of traffic going to an expired domain, you can find out its link popularity in the major search engines. This will tell you the number of Web pages listed in a particular search engine that link to that domain. The more links, the higher link popularity and the more traffic that domain is getting (in some search engines, the higher ranking, too).

As you can see, this can be an affordable way to gain instant traffic to your site. Be nice, though, and do not abuse this technique, make sure the site you are sending traffic to relates to the domain. For example don't register the expired domain 'ehairplugs.com' just because it has a high link popularity and then forward the domain to your site about Internet marketing. Other than that you may use your new domain with 'built-in' traffic however you wish!

Do not make the mistake of including the URL of your internet opportunity on each and every manual traffic exchange you are participating....instead...use some of your traffic exchange affiliate links to derive the benefits of residual traffic in the long run.

Generating traffic is not an easy task. You have to contend with a great number of sites to generate a good number of traffic flow. But if done successfully this could open up a Pandora's Box of possibilities. One of the benefits is monetizing your traffic flow.

Also, when people see the same ad over and over again, they get desensitized to it. Don't fall into this trap. It's one thing to try and sell a very popular product/service/ebook etc, but it's another thing when a million other people are trying to do it too. Competition is a good thing, because it validates your market, but too much competition is tough and it's time to move on to something else.

Advanced website traffic tactics might sound daunting, but if you make it low cost then you have nothing but a win-win situation. Employ low cost advanced website traffic tactics and you're in for a huge online success.

Step By Step Instructions To Transfer Locked, Whois Protected Domains From Registerfly

If you have any domains with RegisterFly then you're probably aware of the ongoing fiasco with RegisterFly and ICANN. Over the years, RegisterFly has failed to comply with many ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) rules. As a results, ICANN has recently revoked the ICANN seal of approval from RegisterFly.

Many people have lost domains (over 70,000 have been lost) due to numerous website problems, and RegisterFly's failure to follow ICANN rules. If you are one of these people, you should contact ICANN to try and resolve the dispute.

Many people also have domains they would like to transfer from RegisterFly to a new domain registrar. In order to this, your domain must be unlocked and you also need the authorization / EPP code which is only attainable from your RegisterFly account. Unforunately, RegisterFly is NOT providing these authorization / EPP codes, which makes transfers impossible.

Under regular circumstances, a domain transfer works like this:

-Pick a registrar you would like to transfer your domains too, follow their instructions to submit a domain transfer request.

-You must attain the authorization / EPP codes from your existing registrar.

-The transfer process will be started, you will then need to provide the authorization / EPP code for each domain you would like to transfer.

To successfully transfer your locked, whois protected (privacy protected) domains from RegisterFly, follow these steps:

1. Go to RegisterFly and create a brand new free account (it must be a new account), use a new email address and username to do so. Make sure your contact information is correct.

2. Login to your existing RegisterFly account and click on the "Change of Ownership" tab, and select "internal push to other user".

3. Follow the instructions to "push" the domains to the new RegisterFly account you created in step 1. When asked for a list of domains to push, enter all the domains you would like to transfer to a new registrar of your choice.

*Make sure to check "Change Whois Contact Information" when pushing your domains*

4. Once you have completed the internal domain push, log out of your main RegisterFly account and log into your newly created RegisterFly account where you pushed the domains.

5. Click on "Manage Domains", and go through (click on) each domain you would like to transfer, one at a time, following these steps to get the authorization code:

-If your Domain Status says "Locked", click on the "Locked" link, and follow the instructions to unlock the domain.

-Your domain should no longer have whois protection (privacy protection) enabled since it has been transferred to your new account.

-Click on the "Domains" tab on the right side of the screen to expand it (it may already be expanded).

-Click on "Whois Contact Information".

-On the whois contact information page, scroll down to the bottom and look for "Authorization Code", your authorization / EPP code will be right underneat this text, and should look something like this: hw3y6cNJ71

-Go to your new registrar where you are transffering your domains, and enter your authorization / EPP code into the form provided.

-Your registrar will likely send you an email confirmation message for each domain you've transferred, follow the instructions in the email.

6. Your done!

That's it, if you've followed the instructions you should be able to transfer your RegisterFly domains to a new registrar of your choice.

Good luck!

Some Common Myths Against Domain

Lawyers eat nails for breakfast. Rap is Etch-a-Sketch set to music. The Law of Unintended Consequences governs the nation. These beliefs are part of a canon of urban folklore that we spread as truth among our friends. Applicants for domain names have developed their own myths. Some have been repeated so often, they sound true. Those untold information is what this paper is going to tell you.

Myth One: Always Pick .Com Domain Name

It is always asked a person to go for .com domain name. The domain ending with .com is easy to remember, as they are the most common name but not necessary the best. For one thing, there are many domain names ending in .com so it’s really hard to find a domain name ending with one. Picking a .com is good depending on how you are gaining traffic. If you are targeting people that are looking in search engines it can be pointless to just pick a .com domain. Though if you are advertising in Television, Newspapers or the Radio it might help somewhat.

Myth Two: Avoid Using Dashes Or Never Go For That

Once again, this all depends on what you are doing. Remember, search engines translate dashes as spaces, so if you are targeting a popular keyword and use dashes as spaces, than your page will be easier to get onto the top ten search results of that keyword. Some search engines put more emphasis on this than others. So avoiding dashes or not applying anywhere in the domain name can be a fruitful option for you.

Myth Three: Selecting A Domain Name

Choosing a domain name may be a pain, many may prefer domain names that are short but they are not necessarily better. Its true you don’t want a domain name that is extremely long but you don’t want it to be so short that nobody can remember it (unless you own a url forwarding service). There are many combinations of words you can use. It is highly suggested checking a domain name generator. They can be very useful, you enter a keyword and it displays possible combinations with other words and tells you if they’re available.

Myth Four: Domain Used Forever.

While it’s possible that you’ll keep your registered domain name forever, it is not guaranteed. Several things can happen that would cause you to lose your domain name. First, you have to register your domain name each year (or register it for multiple years up front) in order to keep your access to it. If you forget to renew your registration, you could lose your domain name, or someone else can register it and charge you a huge fee to have it transferred back to your name. Second, you could lose your domain name in a trademark dispute.

Myth Five: Domain Registration Through Company Name

You cannot use your company name for the domain registration; in fact, you don’t have the right to register any domain name, even if you have a trademark on the corresponding company name. The reason for this is that a trademark on a business name doesn’t give you exclusive access to use that name. It only gives you exclusive access to use that name for the particular products and / or services that you offer.

A Guidebook On Domain Name

A domain name is the name by which Internet users get into your website. It is the text name that is equivalent to the numeric IP address of a PC on the Internet. Since that is your identity on which the success of your business depends, it should be exclusive and reflective of your business.

Although most people feel they do not really need a domain name, the fact is that a domain name is very important for a business to be successful. After all, business revolves round sales, and sales depend on credibility. Having a domain name is the first step towards building credibility. It makes your customers feel comfortable while doing business with you. There are many search engines that give importance to the home page of a particular domain.

Although domain name is not the only factor responsible for the success or failure of a business, it is certainly an important one. Therefore, to ensure your success you must choose a proper registered web address from the many options available like .net, .org, .biz and others. Most people find .com to be the most credible. That is why it is considered a popular extension that lends credibility to your business. You can choose any domain name as you have the freedom to use only alphabets, numbers, and dashes also. Only spaces and special symbols are not allowed. Domain names are not even case sensitive.

A good domain name should be short and simple; not long, ambiguous and confusing. Ideally, it should not exceed 14-16 characters. You should spend a lot of time and use your creativity to think of a catchy domain name. Make sure you spell it correctly and include at least two keywords in it. Keywords help search engines to rank them.

You can get ideas about domain names from the old domain names that are no longer in use. However, this can be a risky proposition if the domain name is in use. That can land you into a copyright infringement issue. So, be very careful while choosing a domain name from the Internet.

You must avoid registering domain names with your web host. This is so because if you decide to change your host, you will need to move your domain too. Trust me, it is a great hassle. So it is better to split both aspects.

There are many options available within the parameters to make your domain name exclusive. You can have more than one domain name; you can have full name and a short name; and spell your domain differently. Thus, you can be sure you have them all and no one else can tread in your domain.

Once you have decided on a domain name, you must ask around and take a vote for the best name. Two brains are better than one, and many opinions will help you visualize how your domain name will be finally received out there. It is a good idea to ask your friends, relatives, colleagues, employees and others for ideas. You will be surprised how many ideas will come flowing your way. Make use of them.

Also take the price factor into consideration. Since there is much competition the prices have come down quite a bit. You can make a decent bargain if you spend some time and shop around.

According to Simon Krandock, registering a domain should not be stressful. Visit this site for important information on how to register domain name and protect your personal information.

Cheap Domain Names

12.12.2007

A Domain name is an Internet or web-based name that makes it easy for users to find your site. In reality, your domain name, or in other words your computer’s address, is a complex string of numbers that people would find difficult to remember and annoying to key in. Fortunately, the domain Name System (DNS) allows computers to convert these numbers into letters and numbers that people find easier to understand and remember. Acquiring a domain name was once quite expensive, but cheap domain names are now readily available.

Domain names were expensive in the early days of the Internet, because they were available from only one organisation, Network Solutions, operating through an exclusive government contract. At one time, domain names cost ₤100 or more. By 1998, however, the massive growth of the Internet led to the formation of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), a private sector, non-profit organisation formed by a combination of global Internet interests. With deregulation came cheap domain names, because one of ICANN’s main aims was the encouragement of greater competition in the domain registration industry. There are now many competitors and, depending on the provider, domain names are now priced at around ₤5-₤10 a year, a far cry from the expensive prices that formerly prevailed.

Even before the advent of cheap domain names, a domain name was considered essential for major businesses. Customers now expect businesses to have easily accessible websites. Without a domain name, a business website is less easy to find and has a less professional appearance. With the availability of cheap domain names providing even greater incentive to secure your own domain name, registration also gives you the benefits of having such information as your company’s name or product names made easy for prospective customers to find. This is because the domain name you register is associated with the computer you specify, allowing you to reach Internet users through your website.

When obtaining a domain

name, your best option is to select an accredited registrar or obtain a recommendation for an existing provider. While domain name registering is quick and easy, you should take some time to shop around and consider the many choices available. As well as comparing the prices of cheap domain names, you should be careful to see what other advantages are on offer, such as customer service.

Cheap domain names can bring in a lot of business if they are chosen carefully. With thousands being registered daily, the choice of name may require a little thought to make sure it is as effective as possible. Try to create a name that has a number of qualities such as being easy to remember, attention getting, and relevant to the product or service you are providing. Don’t forget, too, that the inclusion of keywords has the potential to improve your site’s ranking in connection with the results returned by search engines.

If you want to register a domain name with a well-known ending such as .com or .net, as well as. aero, .biz, .com, .coop, .info, .museum, .name, .org or .pro, you can do so through one of the many competing registrars accredited by ICANN. You will need to provide the registrar of your choice with contact and technical information. The technical information will go to a central registry from where it will be provided to other computers so their users can locate your site or e-mail you. With the ease and speed of registration and the availability of cheap domain names, registering a domain is well worth the effort. Whether you are selling products or offering a service, or just want your name up there for some other reason, a domain name ensures that your information can reach as many people as possible.

Cheap Domains

Choosing a domain name is a key decision in planning a new website. Many online services can help you select a good and cheap domain name for your site. Fortunately, site registrars offer great service, even on cheap domain name selections. Your cheap domain name can make a significant difference in your search engine rankings and more. Think carefully when you choose your new cheap domain name to select one that will be easy for your customers and clients to remember, easy to spell, and ideal for search engines. With a few simple tips, you can choose a cheap domain name that will make your business a successful online venture.

Search engines such as Google place value on the keywords within a domain name; however, selecting an overly long domain name is a poor choice for your human customers. If you can select a cheap domain name that includes some of your desired keywords, it will likely improve your search engine rankings. Try and select a name that is short and also contains a keyword. Your customers may find longer or more complex domain names hard to spell or remember, and thus reduce the usefulness of your online presence. Avoid hyphens if possible, as extraneous punctuation in a domain name makes it less useful for search engines and for your customers as well.

Your domain name can also impact which markets are apt to view your site. If you wish to appeal to the UK market, choose a .co.uk domain when you register your cheap domain name. The .co.uk will help if you want to target the UK market, but will put off some international visitors. A .com will help if you want to target international markets, but you will perform slightly less well on local searches. Knowing your intended market can be a helpful tool when you choose your cheap domain name. While some customers will buy regardless of domain extension, and some search engines will put little value on this, it is a factor to consider. Your

site content, accessibility and other features will matter more to your customers than your domain name; however, this is a useful detail to consider.

Location of your web hosting is important – a .com domain and a US host will tell the search engine that you are US based. This can impact your overall search engine rankings, particularly with regard to local searches. A .co.uk and a UK host will locate you in the UK. A domain with the extension .co.uk and US host will also identify you as UK based. If you wish to appeal to a wider international audience, a .com extension may be a helpful domain option for your business. Businesses seeking local UK customers and clientele may find that the .co.uk extension is ideal for both their customers and their search engine rankings.

While your first priority when choosing a domain name may be its ease of use for your customers and clients do consider the impact of domain names on search engine rankings. Your search engine rankings are impacted by many things, and your domain name is one of those. Choose a short, easy to remember and spell domain name. Consider including keywords in your domain name if at all possible to further improve your rankings. The search engines do look at the likely location of your domain, and you may find it helpful to consider the implications of your domain name on your assumed location. With these helpful tips, your cheap domain name can be a useful asset and tool for your business.

Take Care Choosing Your Domain Name

"Profit in business comes from repeat customers; customers that boast about your product and service, and that bring friends with them."

The above quote by W. Edwards Deming author of "Out of the Crisis" (1984), is relevant to my discussion on domain names. It is I believe also relevant to anyone in any business. OK, now I have got my pontificating off my chest let me get started with my discussion on domain names.

Contrary to what another writer has published, no reputable domain name registrant, who intends staying in business will sell you a domain name for $2.00. The Registrant has to pay a much higher wholesale price than this for the domain name in the first place, and would be making a big loss by selling for a mere $2.00. The domain name market is very competitive, and if you shop around you will be able to purchase a Top Level domain (TLD) name for under $10.00, but certainly not for $2.00.

Now, I have seen advertisements for domain names for under $2.00 for $1.99 actually. But the firm in question was making this offer on the proviso that some other product or service such as a hosting account was purhased with the domain name. So the domain name part of the purchase for this particular firm would be a "loss leader", but they would be more than compensating for this with their profit an the other products or services.

What some firms may be selling for $2.00 are not domain names, but sub-domains of someone else's domain name. The ethics of selling these even for $2.00, I personally would find very questionable.

Earlier I mentioned Top Level domain (TLD) names and sub-domain names. I shall explain the difference.

A domain Name consists of several different parts. The first part is generally "http://" , for secure sites it may be "https://". The "http" is an acronym for "hyper text transfer protocol". The next part of a domain name is "www.". The "www" part of course stands for the "World Wide Web". Then there is a bit in the middle "IanMcKenziesLinks". This middle bit can not have any spaces and needs to be written as one word, as I have done above. It is this bit that you choose and complete the appropriate searches for availability, before you plan to register a domain name. Now, the final part of a TLD name is the suffix at the end of course. This traditionally is ".com", but it could be several other suffixes in addition, such as, ".net", ".org", ".biz", ".name" and so on.

Now, I know taht some article sites do not like domain names listed in the article, so I won't do that. But, if you put the first two bits "http://www." and the middle bit "IanMcKenziesLinks" together and add the suffix ".com" at the end, you have an example of a Top Level domain (TLD) name.

Top Level domain names such as I have exemplified above, can have any number of sub-domains. For example, you could have the "http://" part and replace the "www.' part with for example "iansblog." . This would then become a sub-domain of the Top Level domain described earlier. There could also potentially be thousands of others.

So, if you purchase a "domain name" like the first example in the paragraph above, you are not really purchasing a domain name at all, but a part of someone else's domain Name over which you really don't have any control. If the owner of the TLD name of which yours is a part for example chooses not to renew their domain name registration, then too bad,all of the "suckers" who purchased sub-domains of this TLD will lose their sites.

Why would anyone purchase a sub-domain, when Top Level domain names are so inexpensive?

On the issue of money and costs, I would like to pick up on one other point another writer has made. This writer slammed free hosted sites. Why? I ask?

The TLD site above, in addition to the sub-domain "blog" site associated with it are both hosted free of charge. The only financial cost involved was the two year registration of the TLD name costing me a total of $17.64. That fee also includes the ICANN fee. In exchange for the free hosting there are some unobtrusive advertisements across the top of each page. Now, these ads., are related to the content on the pages of my site. There is amongst the ads a Google search bar on each page also, which i think can be quite handy. In my opinion, it certainly is a small price to pay in exchange for totally free hosting.

I reckon having both a web site, and a blog site published and "on air" for two full years for an all up cost of $17.64 is pretty good value. What do you think?

Signing up for a Domain Name? Consider Private Registration

12.09.2007

A plethora of websites exists to register a domain name. Google 'register domain names' and have a fun-filled time comparing prices. Though price is definitely a consideration when choosing a domain name registrar, it is also important to find a registrar who offers private domain name registration.

Registering a domain name requires that the name, address, email address and telephone number of the owner be provided. For an individual this will be their home address information. A company will provide their main business address. Once this information is provided, it is accessible by anyone doing a WHOIS search.

PROTECT YOURSELF!

Register privately. Private registration usually costs another $8 to $9 dollars on top of the cost of a regular registration. A normal registration at some registrars can cost $15-$20. However, finding a registrar where the regular fee is less then $8 is relatively simple. Adding a private registration will make the total cost back in the $15-$16 range. You might as well get the most bang for your buck if you are going to shell out $15.

Once registered privately, all personal information is hidden. A WHOIS search will reveal the name and address of the third party company that is holding the private registration.

Private registration may not be as big a concern for companies. However, it can be very useful to individuals who desire to keep their personal and private information (address and telephone number) exactly that, personal and private.

Is it worth it to register privately? The answer to that question depends on how much you value your own privacy. For some, registering privately is no big deal. For others, who already have had problems with hackers, spammers and the like, a private domain registration offers them additional security. At the very least, it is helpful to know that this option does exist. Not all domain registrars offer this service, but it is growing in popularity.

Is Your Domain Costing You Traffic?

You visited a great website some time ago that had some fantastic information on it. It is not easily found in search engines results so you decide to type the domain name into your favorite browser. The problem is that the url spells out something like keyword-keyword-keyword-keyword-keyword.com.

Does that sound ethical to you? It maybe helpful with those search engine rankings but for many visitors that can be a pain in you know what to type out.

For years I worked in an internet café and was surprised to know that many persons can't type in a hyphen. Instead of finding out how to do it, they just move on to an alternate site hence a loss of traffic.

The average computer user can be a lazy fellow indeed. That's why there are so many keyboard shortcuts. He needs to complete his task as soon as possible.

Ever wonder why the Googles, Yahoos, Amazons and Ebays of the online world are so successful? It's because there domain name play a significant role in there branding.

There are countless persons logging on for the first time each day in search of information that can assist them in the iniation process. It is imperative that your domain name play a major part in creating a bond with your viewers.

For almost four years I marketed a free website that was hosted on Geocities. My "domain" spelt out Geocities.com/Myname which made marketing feel like running with an anchor tied to my legs. I can't even imagine the amount of traffic and credibility that I lost due to that single factor.

Does it work? It can and sometimes it won't. I believe that having a domain with too many words in it can be a turnoff just like having a Geocities site. It seems unprofessional for a company to have a name that contrasts the credibility that they are trying to create.

Some domain names are like a cargo train several comportments long. Why? Since some search engines do not give any significance to the meta keyword tag, some webmasters fill their domain with their keywords.

A good domain does not guarantee success as I found out. But a memorable and easy to spell name can be beneficial to both you and your visitors. You can have an easier time reaching them and they will have an easier time finding you with a quick type in of your domain.

I think it is best to put your keywords for each page in your file name. That way you, the search engines and your viewers all win.

Understand the Domain Name System

12.08.2007

Ever wonder why DNS systems came into existence? Efficiency. Every computer has a distinct IP address, and the Internet needed an elite method for obtaining these addresses and for managing the system as a whole. Enter ICANN.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Number manages the DNS root of the Internet domain namespace. ICANN's role is to manage the assignment of identifiers, ensuring that all users have unique names.

The DNS system is run by a series of servers called DNS servers. ICANN manages the root DNS domains, under which are the top-level domains.
It also manages:

Organizational domains
Geographical domains
Reverse domains

Beneath the top-level domains are other naming authorities such as Nominet, the UK's naming authority.

How does a DNS Query work?

The process occurs in two parts. Firstly, a name query begins at a client computer and is passed to DNS client service for resolution. When the query cannot be resolved locally, DNS servers are queried.

For example, when a web browser calls the fully qualified domain name www.discountdomainsuk.com, the request is passed on to the DNS client service to resolve the name by using locally cached information. If the query is held in the cache, then the process is complete.

If, however, the query cannot be answered locally, the DNS client service uses a server list (ordered in sequence) to query external DNS servers. When a DNS server receives a query, it first checks to see if it is authoritive for that domain name. If it is authoritive, it resolves the name, and the process is complete.

If the DNS server is unable to resolve the query, it in turns queries other DNS servers, using a process known as recursion. DNS servers make use of root hints to assist in locating DNS servers, which are able to provide the required result. In this way, DNS queries are minimised and the Internet is able to operate quickly and effectively.

A typical query may run as follows:

Client contacts Nameserver A looking for www.discountdomainsuk.com.

Nameserver A checks its cache, but can't answer, so it queries a server authoritive for the Internet root.

The root server responds with a referral to a server authoritive for the .com domains. NameserverA queries the the .com server and gets referred to the server authoritive for www.discountdomainsuk.com.

Nameserver A queries this server and gets the IP address for www.discountdomainsuk.com.

Nameserver A replies to the client with the IP address.

Queries can return answers that are authoritive, positive, negative or referral in nature. In the event of a negative answer, another DNS server is queried.

1-800-Get-Rich Can Toll Free 800 Number Domains Pay Off?

The toll free number 1-800-Get-Rich belongs to the Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City. Perfect vanity number for a casino, right? Well apparently not. Their website shows the actual numbers, 1-800-438-7424 for the marketing department of Resorts Atlantic City. Those NUMBERS are nowhere near as memorable as is the mnemonic device of letters representing those numbers on the telephone keypad. It makes you wonder, did the casino have bad luck (no pun intended) or receive bad publicity for their 800-Get-Rich phone number?

Doing a Google search for 1-800-GET-RICH returns several spoof articles using the toll free number to make light of get rich quick schemes. Seems as well suited to a casino as to satire, since gambling represents the ultimate get rich quick scheme.

But on the web there's a another element to toll free numbers you must consider. 800 numbers are used as domain names which seem to stick in our memory as a web address just as well as a phone number. Resorts Atlantic City Hotel Casino should buy the domain name www.1800getrich.com from the current owner and assign their marketing department toll free 800 vanity number to the Casino instead.

The domain name www.1800GetRich.com is for sale as of this writing if you visit that web address. You can be certain that the current domain owner knows that the toll free vanity telephone number is owned by Resorts International Hotels www.resortsac.com which matches the domain www.1800getrich.com. It has to be enticing to think a large international hotel corporation may want his domain.

The casino owns the toll free number but isn't using the mnemonic for the numbers (GET-RICH for 438-7424). Makes you wonder about the history of the domain name, since WHOIS records show it was reserved only this past May of 2004, AND the history of the vanity number since it is going unused, at least on the web site. Hmmmm...

There are vanity phone number resellers online that actually specialize in providing 800 numbers with matching domain name for those seeking the consistent branding for their business. Clearly this is simply a marketing ploy by savvy 800 number vendors, as those domains may be full of hyphens and may cost more than they should due to the perception of value-added.

An interesting aspect to toll free numbers as domain names is that of 1-800 copyright and trademarks. Take for example, the well known flower retailer 1-800-FLOWERS.com where they use both the domain name and the toll free number. Both are copy- righted and trademarked names and essential to the business.

Legal precedent allows trademark owners to confiscate domains from "cybersquatters" who buy domain names containing trade- marked or copyrighted words and phrases hoping to sell that domain back to the trademark holder. But it is less clear an issue when it comes to descriptive toll free and vanity phone numbers. How about 1-800-PINDROP.com - which you would think would be registered to Sprint Communications? Curiously, as of October of 2004, this domain was available. What do they use? www.pindrop.com (without the 1-800) goes to Sprint.com.

It appears there are wide inconsistencies in using toll free 800 phone numbers as domain names but they can be memorable, which is one measure of a good domain name. They also aren't limiting as to word length. I've always felt it's a bit odd to type in 1800keywordphrase.com as a domain name, but only because there is no hyphen in it. 1800 looks like eighteen hundred and is just as strange as typing 247 for domains as a suggestion they are always open, more often seen as 24/7, but domain names can't have that slash mark in them.

As a matter of fact, I've always disliked numbers of any kind in domain names - especially those using numbers in place of the words "to" (up2me.com)& "for" (good4you.com) But, as owner of http://website101.com I'm at odds with the dislike for numbers in domain names. Still, it works better than 1800website.com or 1-800-website.com, both owned by Verio Web Hosting and both purchased in August of 1996, but neither have web sites configured at those addresses. They must not have been a worthwhile domains, yet they keep them.

If it offers you another option for a memorable web address, 800 number domains may be worth considering.

Your Domain Is Your Lifeblood

A simple message this one, but a really crucial one, research your domain registrar, choose them with care. A bad registrar can kill your on-line business, stone cold dead!

I have recently shared a customer's nightmare with a supposedly reputable domain registrar. All they wanted was their domain pointing to a different DNS server (the server that tells the internet where your website is), a simple request, they received no response from any of their emails. I didn't like their silence and suggested we actually move the domain to my registrar instead, more emails sent, more silence, weeks of it!

This was a big problem for both the client and myself. The client had a product launch and wanted to use my technology. The problem being my technology requires my DNS servers,

not somebody else's! Time was ticking, they had become prisoners and I was about to lose a development job! Thankfully it was wrestled from them in the nick of time, but that could have been a product without a decent website.

Worse can happen, another developer I know had some domains registered with a company that lost their records completely. Thankfully none of these were business critical but if you lose control of your domain you may not be able to prove you own it or ever regain control.

When registering a domain, here are three simple tips:

Will you own the domain or will the registrar? This is a common way to be caught out, many of the 'register for free' sites do this, you need to check the small print. The registrar could be the ones who end up making money out of your carefully built reputation, you could end up starting again under a new name.

Do a search, are there lots of complaints about a registrar online? I just Googled a registrar and found hundreds of pages of complaints, including news articles on high profile tech sites and 3 whole forums dedicated entirely to moaning about them - one has over 750 members.

What do they charge for? Quite often registration is cheap, but if you wish to change something you find yourself slapped with a $50 bill. Again, check the small print; look at their terms for moving for example.

Don't make assumptions. The registrar my customer was using is a subsidiary of one of the biggest and most respected ISPs in the UK, yet they have a track record of failing to respond to customer requests and server failures. Big does not necessarily mean good, this applies to web hosting in general as well.

I can't stress this enough, with an established online business your most precious asset is your domain name. Don't risk your business for the sake of saving a few dollars!

Good luck with your new venture!

The Complete Guide To Domain Registration

Choosing a domain name is one of the most important steps that you can make for your business. So
it is very important that you get this step right. The domain will represent your business and for
many prospective customers this will be very important.

The name represents the i.p. address of the computer that your server points to. So for example if
you type in a name in your browser it will redirect to the i.p. address where your server is located
using a DNS server.

You need to first decide where you are going to register the name. There are several key factors that you need to consider. Look for a competitive price and use a provider that is reputable. Many of the providers charge too much money so try to avoid this common trap. I use Dotster as they are reliable and charge reasonable rates.

When choosing the name make sure that it represents your business identity. If you think about Google's
success, much of it is because they chose a very good name that created a very strong brand. A short
catchy name that is easy to remember is best.

If you make the terrible mistake of choosing the wrong name it may have a huge impact on your website.
For example when you attract a visit they may only click on the url because it has a certain symbolic
meaning. When they get to your website and it is not congruent with your business identity it may have
a negative effect on the response of your visitor which will decrease your sales.

Once you have found a name that you are satisfied with it is very important that you check to see if it has already been taken. Once verified that it is available you can go ahead and register the domain.

The register will monitor every available expired domain possible, and it will also sort them into a well organized category depending on its status, whether it is pending expiry or deletion.

In life, finding a good expired name is very difficult, and it is almost like seeking out a small needle in a bag of haystacks. But, a domain expired name register will enable you to search efficiently through the entire list of expired names directory without wasting much time.

Here is how a typical domain expired name register works and operates in the real sense:

a) You will need to enter the search keyword based on your preference.

b) Search keywords could be anything in nature. It could the name of a flower or a dictionary word.

c) You can also search through a readymade expired domain names list to find the desired name.

d) When you enter a keyword and hit enter, the domain expired name register will soon return with a number of names. Then, you can pick up a name and register it in your name.

e) A typical expired name register will also allow you to place a backorder without paying an upfront fee.

Apart from the above, a domain expired name register will also assist you in knowing the "whois" database of the domain, about the domain registrar who registered the domain and a brief history of past registration data. There are a number of domain expired name registers that operate online to help people find their expired domains. Some of them offer bare minimum services, by allowing to simply searching expired domain names, while many others operate on a small subscription fee basis. Before you use a domain expired name register, ensure that you choose the best of the lot that offers a host of services related to expired domain names and their registration.

5 Keys to Get Started with Domain Names

12.07.2007

Your domain name is your cyber-address. If your prospective customers have no idea about it, then most likely you will never be found, and nobody gets to purchase your products and services.

Choosing a domain name can be very hard, though, as you can hardly ever change it, especially if you already have solid traffic. To make sure that you won't have to change your mind later on, here are 5 keys to get started with domain names:

1. Make your business name your domain name. What better way to promote your business than having it as your domain name. You can also focus on the nature of your products and select them as your domain name.

2. Add some dashes. Dashes will basically allow you to include keywords in your domain name. This way, even if your target customers are not familiar with your business name, you can still be searched and clicked by appearing in search engine results pages.

3. Make use of the best keywords. Always get the best one, the most relevant to your chosen niche. If you aren't sure what it is, you can simply use keyword suggestion tools like Yahoo! Overture and even Google Adwords. If this doesn't work, you can ask help from keyword experts.

4. Purchase domain names sharing the same spelling as yours. You can't certainly afford to drive your prospective customers to other similarly spelled domain names. Thus, to ensure that this doesn't happen, spend a portion of your budget to purchasing these domain names. You can simply park them, or if you want, you can create mini-websites and use them as their domain names.

5. Short is better. Avoid complicated and long domain names. They don't get remembered easily, and Internet users are prone to misspelling them. In the end, you won't still be able to achieve the kind of traffic for your website.

Marketing Your Website - Domain Names 101

Any new website venture online will include a domain name. Sometimes the domain is purchased from a domain broker - someone who specializes in reselling them. The majority of the time, however, it will be registered through a domain registrar. No matter how it is purchased, in all cases, the domain name (or names) for a website should be carefully considered. The basis of the marketing for the website will be the domain name chosen.

Having been an appraiser for a few years now,

I can tell you that the choice of names for your site is critical to marketing. When I appraise a domain for value (in both dollars and marketability), I use basic criteria for my judgment of the domain. The most important of those criteria is length and readability. If the domain is too long or too hard to read (for a human), its value is very low. If it cannot be spoken and typed correctly (most of the time), it's also of low value. A well-thought-out domain name is the first step in a successful marketing campaign.

When choosing and registering a domain name for a new website, there are three basic steps to follow to ensure a marketable name for your site. Follow them every time and you'll have successful domains every time.

Step 1: The Name

Choosing a name may be as easy as "your business name dot com" or it may be more difficult (especially if you have a common name for your business). In all cases, your business' name should be your number one pick for your domain name. If your business name is difficult to spell easily, try to register misspellings of it as well.

For instance, my business name is "Aaronz WebWorkz," so I obviously own "AaronzWebWorkz.com." Since this is regularly misspelled by potential clients, I also have "AaronsWebWorks.com" registered so that all email and web requests go to the original AaronzWebWorkz.com site. In addition to this, I purchased "dotcom-it.com" as an alternate domain and use that when giving out the URL on the phone or in situations where I can't hand someone a business card with my URL printed on it.

If your business name, as an example, is "Widgets, Inc.," however, you'll have a hard time getting the domain name "widgets.com" or "widgetsinc.com" and will have to find alternatives. I have a simple process I use and recommend when this is the case. Even if your product or product type isn't in your business' name, it's a good idea to purchase domains with that product in the name to use for marketing purposes.

First, make a list of words or short phrases that have something to do with your business. Six to ten of these is good to start off. Once you have the list, remove all of the ones that have more than twenty characters in them (this keeps them short). Then create new additions to your list by replacing empty spaces with "-" and "_" characters. Finally, compress the spaced words into one word (e.g. "widgets galore" becomes "widgetsgalore") to ad to the list.

Now that you have this list, prioritize it by numbering the entries from 1 to 10 (or so). Now see if these domains are available (step 2).

Step 2 - domain Availability

This step is easy and will take just a few minutes to do. Take your list from Step 1 and begin with #1 on that list. Go to any domain registrar (see list below) and enter the domains in the order they are numbered on your list. Usually, you can just enter the domain without a suffix (.com, .net, etc.) and find out if any of the variations are available. Most registrars will also produce a list of alternatives you may want to consider as well.

As you proceed through the list, check off any domains that ".com" is available for. Don't worry about most alternatives since, for business, dot com is where it's at. Cross out any names on your list that aren't available. Once you're finished, you should have a short list of available, good domains for your business.

Step 3 - Register the domain

Now that you know what's available, begin registering those domains! domain registrars are all over the Web with varying prices and services. A good registrar is worth any extra money that may be spent since a registrar going out of business could easily cause headaches and nightmares for you. I have used, worked with, and recommend the following registrars:

www.101domain.com

www.Rwgusa.net

www.bluesit.com

In addition, you may wish to use the international domain tools offered at any of the above. Especially if you register a lot of domains are in need of "extras" that aren't normally offered by a registrar at [http://www.101domain.com/]http://www.101domain.com

Good luck with your new venture!

Free Internet Domain Names

12.06.2007

As I read the various forums on website development and domain names, I am amazed at the number of people who are searching for free internet domain names. There is no such thing as completely free domain names, there is always a catch involved. The internet is no different than the offline world in this regard. How many offline businesses will give you something of value for free?

If you sign up with a host that is offering free domain names, you can be sure your website pages will have advertising that you have no control over, let alone make any money from. There may be other restrictions placed on you as well, like I said, there's no such thing as free internet domains!

The next obvious drawback to using free domain names, more than likely it will be a sub-domain, not an actual domain name. For example; yourname.hostprovider.com or hostprovider.com/yourname. How can you possibly build any type of brand using a name like that? You can't!

Developing a website that generates a decent amount of targeted traffic is quite an undertaking to say the least. What if you have success with your free name and down the road you decide to register your own unique domain name. What will happen to the existing traffic you have worked so hard to generate? What will happen to your search engine indexing and ranking that you have worked hard to achieve? If you change your domain name midstream you will very likely loose everything you have worked so hard to achieve. Does it still sound free?

Now if your website is a hobby site that doesn't rely on income and you dabble with it when you feel like it, a free name will probably work for you. What amazes me though is the number of people that are developing websites for their business and want a free name!

Business and website owners must realize the internet is not a game or passing fad that can be taken lightly. The consumer shift to the internet is real and is here to stay. You need to establish your unique web presence by having your own domain name. Your domain name is what separates you from the 120 million or so websites on the internet today.

When you are doing the do diligence for your website, do not underestimate the importance of your domain name. You may spend several hundred or several thousand dollars to develop your website, don't blow it with a free domain name.

Without a domain name no one can find your website!

Advanced Ways to Excel At Domain Names

Domain names somehow reflect the webmaster's ingenuity, creativeness, and his deep understanding about online business. If a webmaster was able to come up with an original, interesting, keyword-rich, and popular names for their website, he has won half of the battle in terms of generating traffic to his site. Here are advanced ways that most brilliant domain name creators use to create more money online:

1. Choose a domain name that will best describe your main products or your company. To do this, write the name of your company, the name of your product, and your targeted keywords. Mix and match these until you come up with a name that has great impact to your target market.

2. Forget big words. Supercalifragilisticexpeliadocious is definitely not a good choice. Your love for big words is unfortunately useless in picking your domain name.

3. Make your domain name easy to remember. If you have already established your name in your field, then by all means use your full name and suffix it with .com. Your name will be easier to remember than the company you represent or the products you are selling.

4. If you think you have found the best domain name for your company and you have realized it's already taken, do not fret - just yet. You still have a chance in getting it by contacting the owner and inquire if he or she is selling it. Most webmaster sell the names that they no longer use.

5. Keep your domain name short. Give your potential visitors a favor, let them type as little as possible in the search field. If you can make a 3 to 6-letter domain name (ACE.com, shirt.com, forex.com) there is a much better chance that your target market will easily recall it.

Benefit of Expired Domains

12.04.2007

When you are creating a business or new website on the internet, as you probably know you will need a domain name. This of course is the obvious for any internet business, without a domain name you will not have a website, end of story. Now if you are new to the internet business world (where have you been?) you may not realize the importance of SEO tactics. SEO tactics, if done correctly, are designed to give you an advantage within the search engine ranks. Of course, you may be sitting there wondering, “What in the world are you talking about”.

Well, this all leads to the title of the article and will answer the question what is the “Benefit of Expired domains”. You see when an domain has been in use by another person and this person allows the domain to expire without renewing, the domain name is placed back into the pool of “domains for sale”. This is where the benefits begin to show, just like a new domain name, the expired domain name is available to anyone who wishes to purchase it. What is the difference between a new and expired domain name? Simple, the expired domain name has already been in use. This means that the previous own has likely invested a great deal of effort and time, not to mention money into the promotion of that domain name.

Furthermore, this means that the expired domain is likely all over the internet, with a multitude of back links. Think about it, taking possession of an expired domain name means less work for you and more time for other, more important issues. You will have the opportunity to take advantage of the work that someone else has already performed. The expired domain could already be listed with many search engines, forums, directories, and a wide variety of other websites that have this link already on them.

What does this mean? Because the previous owner already did most of the legwork, it leaves less for you to do. The traffic specific to that expired domain now becomes your traffic, which leads to your sales, and ultimately your revenue. All of this because someone else was kind enough to do the work for you already and let the domain name expire.

Now surely you would know by now, that if you were to purchase a brand new domain name, you would have to do all the advertising, promotion, SEO work, submission to search engines, forums, and directories yourself. That is a lot of time, effort, and money spent on your part and trust when we say it takes a lot of all of the above to make a new domain work. It makes sense to take advantage of an expired domain does it not? We think so, you should find the expired domain of your choice today and begin taking full advantage of the legwork that has already been done for you and use it for your website.

Domains and TV

To point your audience to your video or multimedia Web site? There is no better way than with a .TV domain name. It already stands out as the two-letter TLD - Top Level domain, so whether you need a name for your personal Web site, want to extend your brand on the internet, or simply want to share your videos with the world, .TV is your domain.

How do domain names work?
A domain name works like an address forwarding service.
All of your Web site content sits on a computer with a unique address. This is called an IP address. An IP address is made up of a series of numbers, such as 179.17.123.45. Your domain name directs visitors to your site using this IP address with DNS – domain Names Server. Use domain names instead of IP addresses because most people find it easier to remember a name rather than a series of numbers.

What is a top-level domain - TLD?
A top-level domain - TLD is the part of the domain name located to the right of the dot. TV. The most common top-level domains are .com, .net, and .org. Some other popular top-level domains are .biz, .info, .name, and .ws. These common top-level domains have certain guidelines attached, but are for the most part available to any registrant, anywhere in the world.

There are also restricted top-level domains like .aero, .biz, .edu, .mil, .museum, .name, and .pro that require the registrant to represent a certain type of entity, or to belong to a certain community. For example, the .name TLD is reserved for individuals and .edu is reserved for educational entities.

Country-code TLDs - ccTLDs are for Web sites and registrants of a particular geographic location. For example: bz – Belize, .ca - Canada, .dk - Denmark, .ec - Ecuador, ie - Republic of Ireland, .uk - United Kingdom, .us - United States, and .zw - Zimbabwe.

How to check if a domain Name is available?
In the Enter a domain name search box, type in the domain name you are interested in.
Select a top-level domain from the drop-down list -.com, .org, .net.
Click Search.
If the domain you want is available, you can follow the instructions on the page to proceed to the next steps in the registration procedure.

If the domain name you requested is already taken you will have available alternatives. For example, you may be able to select a .info or .ws top-level domain, rather than a .com. So, you could register www.domainames.info, instead of www.domainames.com.

Domain Names For Your Website

There are millions of websites on the Net, 56 million.

Every website has a name and it is unique. No two websites are allowed to have the same name.

There are several companies that keep records of the names of websites or domain names so that you can check that your “great idea” for a website name is unique.

About the best one is www.BetterWhois.com Any name you think up needs to checked there before you go ahead and try to buy it.

In fact you cannot really buy a domain name-when you try and do so you will be asked to choose how many years you want it for! In other words all we can really do is rent the right to call our website by a particular unique name. After that period anybody else can jump in and use that name.

The first time you do this you probably want to just register your domain name for a year because it costs less.

However...

There is reason to believe that search engines look at how long a domain name has been bought for – 1 year, 2, years, 5 years etc as part of the way they estimate the importance of a website.

It is only natural for a search engine to reckon that a domain name booked for 5 or 10 years is much more serious and possibly worthwhile than a domain booked for 1 year. So don’t over estimate this but book your domain for more than a year if you can. Most companies will automatically renew your domain name for you at the end of the booking period. so that you do not lose it. This is something you MUST check!

If you want a little help choosing a good domain name try www.enom.com and www.nameboy.com

these sites have useful suggestions in choosing and inventing domain names. You may find most of the names you think of are taken. This is what everybody finds and you just have to plug away until you get a good one.

So should you book or buy your domain name now?

Probably not unless you have done your keyword research

Tips on Choosing A domain Name

1. Only book a dot com. Absolutely avoid .net, .info .org etc

2. Make the name obvious to your niche. golfing-girls.com,home-decor-for-men.com, Confederate-Coins.com is the kind of thing you can do.

The hyphens are just there to make it easier for people to read, your domain name may not need them. It is best to book both versions of your domain name-with and without hyphens. For Example www.Online-Income.com and www.OnlineIncome.com

3 Book you domain for more than a year

4. One of the easiest places to buy and one of the cheapest is godaddy.com. Follow the suggestion on the godaddy website to “Register Lock” your domain

5. Check from time to time that the credit card number you use to allow automatic renew to function is OK as regards expiration date!

A website that is founded on sound market research is going to be making you money for years. A decent domain name can help. But it is your whole marketing and sales process which produces results. a good domain name is worth a few hours or even a few days thought but after that just make a decision to go for a less than perfect domain name. A rose by any other name DOES smell as sweet.

Top 5 Tips You Must Know Before You Buy Domain Names

12.03.2007

Did you know that choosing a domain name for your business is a prominent factor that can dictate the flow of your online success? So before you go off and buy domain names, keep in mind your domain name serves as your online identity for the long-term, and should capture the essence of your business, brand image or business products and services offered.

Realize that once you’ve started your business or have generated traffic and a profitable number of customers through a domain name, it is sometimes not in the best interests of your business to change it. Customers have come to know and trust you, and if you decide to change your domain name, you may come across as unprofessional—not to mention, you may also experience a “business nightmare” with the loss of advertising exposure you’ve earned on the search engines and traffic to that particular domain name which will occur if the domain name change was not properly supported by 301 redirects (which is the most efficient, safest and search engine friendly method for webpage redirection. It's not that hard to implement and it should preserve your search engine rankings, if you have to change file names or move pages around.)

So before you begin to buy domain names, consider these top 5 valuable tips:

Buy domain Names Tip #1: Keep it simple. You want to find a domain name that is easy to say, easy to spell and easy to remember. If you can't find a name that fits all three criteria, keep looking. There are many reasons for this. For instance, say you’re giving your web site address to someone over the phone or on email, a complicated or long domain name has a higher chance for misinterpretation or spelling errors. However, this being said, sometimes a longer domain may be more beneficial if it can include keywords, and still be easy to remember (See Tip #2)

Buy domain Names Tip #2: Try to come up with a unique or keyword-relevant domain name that reflects your business, products, or services. If your web site is going to play a crucial role in your business, then it’s important to have an adequately researched keyword incorporated within the domain name. This will also help to support higher rankings for all your pages in the search engines results for the specific search term or keyword you are trying to target. E.g. If your company is “ABC domain Names Inc.,” you would want to avoid an abbreviated domain such as “abc.com” or “abc-dn.com.” Instead, your web site would benefit much more with a domain such as “abcdomainnames.com” or “abc-domainnames.com” and even “abc-domainname.com.”

Use keyword research tools available online to determine which targeted terms garner the most traffic and would be most beneficial to include in your domain. By including highly searched targeted keywords, you’ll benefit with higher rankings on the major search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN, as well as generate additional traffic from users that search for relevant sites by typing in directly into the URL bar hoping to find what they’re looking for, i.e. www.buydomainnames.com

Buy domain Names Tip #3: Buy all plural and hyphenated versions of your domain and forward them to your website’s primary domain name. This strategy will lessen the possibility of losing potential customers who might misspell your primary domain. Furthermore, you’ll protect your name from competitors who will intentionally buy domain names similar to yours to forward to their website, and take the traffic that was meant for you!

Try not to use numbers unless you can purchase both the numerical and alphabetical names. If you can buy domain names with both listings available, then go for it!

Register similar domain names: If you believe that in the future you’re going to have a huge amount of people visiting your web site through word-of-mouth advertising, then you should consider registering similar domain names that direct to your main URL (i.e. www.abcdomains.com and www.abcdomainnames.com). There are cyber-squatters who buy domain names with hopes that they can sell them for a profit to someone who really needs them. Do it right the first time and you won’t have to deal with this kind of issue!

Buy domain Names Tip #4: If you intend to have a web site for commercial or business reasons, once you find a name that works, choose to register it with the .com extension. The .com extension has better mass appeal simply because it is what most people will automatically enter when going by memory. So if the .com version of your preferred domain is unavailable, choose another domain name.

Once you own the .com name, you could also buy the other popular extensions such as .ca, .net, .org and .biz. This way, you won’t leave much room for competitors to leech visitors and customers from you by using your domain name, through other popular extensions.

Buy domain Names Tip #5: If your current business name has already earned brand recognition, then by all means attain the company name when you buy domain names. For instance, people normally use the term Xerox when referring to photocopy, so if you are Xerox, then you should register Xerox as a domain name to leverage on the popularity of that brand name.

This is usually not the case, so using a keyword-rich domain name is a better move for most people. To further responsibly manage your business online, you should also try to buy a set of two domain names—one that includes your business or brand name, and another that includes related keywords or key phrases. Just be sure to have one as your primary to be submitted to search engines, and that the others are set up as forwards only, and not submitted to the search engines to avoid confusion.

Think Profits.com Inc., a leading Vancouver Internet marketing firm advises to buy domain names from a credible domain provider. Do your due diligence as you would for any other important business decision, and be certain that whichever domain name provider you choose to buy domain names from is a trusted source and will not resell or give your email address to spammers.

Don’t choose a domain name provider simply based on the lowest cost. Like anything, you get what you pay for. Take a moment to think about what you’re really buying into with lower cost domains...are they providing spam-free domain names? Most likely not. Will the provider offer you dedicated customer service and support when you really need it? Are they accessible by phone to speak in person for assistance? These are just a few simple questions to help you qualify the best domain name provider for your service needs. We know you’ll agree the hundreds of hours you’ll save in time deleting annoying spam is well worth the extra investment of a few extra dollars when you buy a domain.

Why do we need privacy protection when we buy domain names?

What is domain name privacy protection?

Also known as “Private Registration” This is a term involved with domain name registration. And it literally means you domain name registration details are kept private or in other words your personal details such as your name, home/ office address, email address and phone numbers are not displayed in public data base. If I may define “private registration” in another way, it means, Implementation of appropriate safeguard measures to ensure the security and confidentiality of WHOIS data records, as well as to protect the WHOIS records against threats or identity theft that could result in substantial embarrassment, harm, inconvenience, or unfairness to any person.

Why you need Privacy Protection?

Imagine for a second, when you register a domain, your name, address, email address and phone numbers are immediately made available to anyone who wants to see them? That’s right. Your personal information is exposed 24 hours a day, everyday, to anyone, anywhere globally who wants to see and use them. When buying a domain name you have to provide accurate contact information or else your domain registration could be terminated as it would be in violation of the ICANN terms and regulations for any and all domain name registrations.

This information has to be made publicly available to everyone via the public WHOIS database as required by ICANN, the international governing body for domain names. Everyday, this valuable source of accurate contact information is targeted and harvested by spammers and telemarketers resulting in unwanted and unsolicited contact. Also since your contact information is public, you are at risk for identity theft and fraud and of being contacted by harassers and stalkers.

The benefits of making a traditional domain name registration into a fully secured private registration

1. Prevent Identity theft and fraud.
2. Prevent unexpected online/offline harassments and stalking
3. Prevent unsolicited commercial emailing
4. Prevent receiving direct mail/sales letters via your postal address
5. Prevent unwanted phone calls from telemarketers, stalkers or any other strangers
6. Ability to protect your privacy and safeguard all your personal contact information.

How does private registration work?

Privacy Protection or Private Registration method ensures that your private information will not publish on the World Wide Web publicly. And the way this security measure work is by replacing all your publicly visible contact details with alternate contact information created and made available by your domain name registrar or any other third party company who provide such service on behalf of your domain name registrar with ICANN approval.

So therefore you have the power to change identity theft, fraud, or even unexpected online/offline harassments and stalking, with a private (”unlisted”) registration. Some domain name registrars offer this service as a value added service with a price tag while some offer it for free. Either way if you are not comfortable with the fact that your personal information is made publicly available to anyone from any where in the world you should definitely go for a privacy protection option when you registering a domain name. And in order to prevent all sorts of misconducts that can be made using your personal information. Remember prevention is always better than cure…!!!!

What is the deal with expired domain names? How useful are they when it comes to driving traffic to a website?
