Your E-Business - Ruler Of Your Domain

7.16.2008

By Mike Hagerty

So you are ready to start up your online business. And you need to pick out and register a domain name. So how the heck do you go about picking and registering a domain name? Read on and find out.

Picking a domain name can be a nightmare unto itself. I can't tell you how many I went through trying to find one that had not already be taken by someone else. Unfortunately at this point in time it seems like everyone and his brother has jumped on the Internet Bandwagon and registered a domain name. Not to mention the latest craze which is to buy and sell internet real estate, which is, you guessed it, buying and selling domain names.

So what can you do? Well if you have an idea for a name already just head on over to Internic or GoDaddy.com or one of the many other places that do domain name registration and use their search feature to see if the one you want is available.

You really want to try and get one ending in .com. Many people will try and tell you to just go ahead and use .net or one of the new designations that are popping up, but in the long run if you are running a business you want to have a domain name ending in .com.

It's the most recognized by everyone out on the net and really the way you want to go.

It may take you quite a few attempts until you get one you are happy with but you will find one eventually.

So you now you have received that long sought after message, "Congratulations! That name is available"! Now what? Well next you need to decide who you want to host your site. Make sure you are positive before you register. Once you do you are stuck with it for at least the next 60 days. The law is set up so that once you choose a place to host your domain you must remain with them for 60 days before you can transfer to another hosting provider.

Now many hosting providers will offer a free domain name registration if you opt to have them host your site. So do some research for a bit and locate a hosting company you can be happy with. Compare services, rates, support, etc. You can find a wide array of differences between hosting companies. Ask around to anyone else you know who has their own site and see who their hosting provider is and how the service is.

You really want to make sure about your hosting provider as it can be a pain to switch over to another one once you have your site up and running. It's not impossible but obviously can be a logistical nightmare and one that is easily avoided by doing some research before you jump in and sign up with someone.

So get out there and pick that perfect name, get it registered and get your online business up and running!

Using Domains Expired To Make Online Profits

By John Bj Khu

Good and novelty domain names could be a great asset for you, when you consider their immense commercial value and perceived online utility. When the internet appeared first time, almost year's back, no one knew the potential value of domain names. With each passing day and as the concept of internet grew up down the years, people started identifying the potential money making values of good domains. With the impeding dot com bubble burst, several millions of domain names suddenly became orphaned and lonely over the wide expanse on internet. This was the unfortunate time when millions of net entrepreneurs lost everything they had, and they did not even have enough money to renew those domain names.

However, there were a fortunate lot of intelligent people, who anticipated and visualized the future prospects of holding all these domains expired. Soon, there was a new trend of people, who were racing against time to grab and buy domain expired. A new form of business took its birth, when intelligent domain name traders gobbled up millions of domains expired within days and months.

Why did they purchase such a huge number of domains expired? What were the real reasons? It seems that with the stabilization of internet and net business opportunities, new and enthusiastic people are looking for a good and old expired domain, so that they can use it for developing meaningful web sites. Secondly, trading in domains expired provides unlimited wealth and online riches to people within the shortest possible time.

Right now, people understand and perceive the commercial importance of buying very good domains expired. With a sustained rush for domain names, everyone is trying to test the waters to make some money online. As of now, the demand for good expired domain names is slowly increasing. A good domain name expired can cost you well under $100 to buy and register. But, it is possible to sell the same domain for an amount as high as $300, provided you sell it an auction process.

If you have a series of domains expired at your disposal, you can earn some decent income by using the power of expired domain names. One of the best ways to earn a simple income is to sell it straightaway to an interested buyer. But, with this option, you may not really earn a large income. So, you will need to devise a strategy that will provide you an opportunity to earn more income. One of the most preferred ways of earning small incomes by using domains expired, is to park it with a parking service. Parking service provides you a facility, where you can create a simple web page to host your expired domain name. When online surfers click on your page, they will navigate to other useful web site that can provide very good services, sell excellent products or provide useful online information. For very successful click, you can earn a small income and when pooled, this can be a very big source of income to you.

Other simple methods include registering your domains expired with convenient PPC and affiliate engines that provide a tiny share of income that arises out of successful sales or clicks. You can also use a good expired domain name to build a web site, develop it with good content and later sell them at premium rates to any interested parties. These are some of the simple methods that allow you to use the hidden power of domains expired to make a large pool of income. If you are careful enough in using your expired domains, you can earn a hefty profit and a sustained residual form of income.

Choose And Purchase A Domain Name

By Steven Weber

Before you can build a web site, you will have to choose and purchase a domain name. There are many domain registrars from which you may purchase the domain from. Their prices range from around $8.95 to $29.95. There really is no reason to pay more than $8.95 for a domain name.

Most hosts have a search box which can be used to find available domain names. I suggest a .com name with no dashes for your main site. It should be easy to spell, easy to pronounce, and as short as possible. It is best if a keyword is part of your domain name, but this is not necessary. For example, a good domain name for a site about dogs might be "dogstuff". Don't force a keyword into the name if it will sound awkward. Short, easy to spell domains are the ideal - with or without a keyword.

Once a good name is found, do a search for that name in Google. You need to make sure, if the name had a past owner, it won't bring you grief. In other words, if the site had connections with a spam or porn site, choose another. Your chosen domain name may have been registered before by a bad site or one that used black hat tactics. If the search shows the domain name in pages which don't look quite right to you, don't use it. Ideally, you don't want to have any links show up with the name in it so you can start with a clean slate.

If the name still looks like a good choice, sign up for an account with a domain registrar and purchase it. You may purchase it for any number of years. I suggest paying for at least two years. There have been some discussions as to whether or not new sites registered for just one year might raise a caution flag with Google since most spam sites are only registered for one year.

How Much Does Your Domain Name Really Cost You?

By Paula Brett

It may surprise you to know that one of the most popular questions I get asked by newcomers to internet marketing is related to buying a domain name.

Now I know if you've been around a little while you're probably thinking "Buying a domain name! How hard is that? Just choose your name, click and buy!" But actually, on reflection, it can be a bit of a minefield out there...

From the minute you arrive at your preferred domain seller you're bombarded with choices, processes and options that are designed to get you spend a deal more than, say, the $4.99 you Originally thought your shiny new domain name was going to cost you.

I decided to pop along to my local domain shop (read click on a bookmark and login) and take a look at exactly what's on offer and whether all these add-ons and extras are totally essential.

* OK, so the first thing I see before I even type in the domain name I want to buy is that there's a "Sale" on certain suffixes like .com .net .org

* I type in my domain name - domain-name-confusion.com - and click the 'next' button and 'fantastic', it's available, but hang on... I can also buy domain-name-confusion.US .NAME .BIZ etc and many more. I can also choose from MYdomain-name-confusion, EASYdomain-name-confusion, domain-name-confusionONLINE, domain-name-confusionSTORE and myriad other combinations

* I decide that no, I'm just going to stick to my original choice of domain-name-confusion.com and so I don't check any of the other boxes. I proceed on to what I think is the checkout but OH NO... again I'm being asked to STOP! Why don't I protect my brand and increase my traffic by buying the .org .net and .info - and I'm even offered a really amazing "special price" to buy the job lot! And what's more there's a special box with a list of compelling reasons why I really should do this

* No thanks, I still want to stick to my original domain-name-confusion.com so I click on the checkout button, AGAIN!

Great! We're onto the summary page where I'm told what I'm ordering.

But WAIT! Do I want my domain name certified for an extra $2.99? Do I want email adding to my domain for an extra $1.99? Is that Complete or Deluxe, Madam? How about Hosting, Sitebuilder, a blog or even some traffic driving software? Is that Standard, Deluxe or Protected, Madam?

* No, honestly, you're too kind, but I simply want to buy the domain name! Click on the checkout button, AGAIN!

Phew, the checkout at last! But wait, do I want to add protection to my domain name and make it 'private'? Do I want to add another domain name? Am I sure I don't want the .NET OR .INFO?

Quite a marathon, huh? And, of course, when you are all wrapped up in the dream of having your own website and wanting to make it perfect from the outset, you are vulnerable to emotional suggestions. PROTECT, INCREASE, EXPAND, ATTRACT.........

So let's take a look to see if you need all these unfamiliar, but reasonable-sounding options?

Do You Need Extra Domain Suffixes?

You can register a .com domain name with several very reputable registrars for, say, $6.99/yr to $9.99/yr. Fees for registering the other possibilities, .info, .co.uk, .net, .org, .biz, .tv can range from $0.99 per year to whatever the registering company wants to charge.

But is it going to be worth it? And where do you stop with the combinations? .com, .co.uk, .info and then there's the 'do I add a dash ( - ) just-to-be-on-the-safe-side.com, .org, .biz' ? I would say, probably not. The .com brand is so widely known that most people will automatically type in a .com extension on any website they are trying to find.

Private Registration

This option will keep your private details, name, physical address and email address unavailable to anyone checking the ownership of your domain on "Whois". Internet law requires that all information about domain registration be publicly available and "Whois" maintains the databases that hold this information.

If you buy a private registration, your details will not be available to just anyone who wants to check your domain for specific ownership. There are many domain owners who don't think this is necessary but, on the other hand, private registration can help you avoid spam, crank emails and unwanted phone calls.

It is worth bearing in mind that any emails you send from the US that are commercial in nature, like:

* Promoting a product or affiliation

* Suggesting that the reader visit your sales page

* Offering a discount for purchasing some product

are required, by the US Can-Spam Act, to have your correct, physical mailing address visible to your email recipients and the correct email address you sent the advertisement from, so this kind of defeats the object of private registration in some ways.

Protected Registration

This form of domain registration protects you from inadvertent expiration of your domain registration, including credit card expiration, failed billing or outdated contact information. It also makes it more difficult to accomplish most malicious domain transfers by Internet predators. Effectively, your domain would be held for you until you renewed the registration.

It can cost more than $25 a year for this service, depending on who you are using for this protection. If you are a small marketing venture, selling a piece of software, an affiliate product or an ebook on a niche product, you may not need this upsell. However, if later your domain starts making lots of money, and you decide that you do need it, you can easily add it.

Business Registration

This level of domain registration keeps need-to-know information about your business in the Whois database. That information can include a map to your store, website photo, business description, phone number and links to vital pages of your website.

The vital information your customers might need to facilitate business deals with your business is visible to millions of searchers in the Whois domain name database.

Do you need it? That would depend on the nature and size of your business and your budget. This would be more of a marketing/budget decision. A small, start-up website selling one ebook would probably not need this additional service.

How Many Years Do You Need?

Every time you register a domain name, regardless of the service you choose to use for the registration, you will be offered a multi-year registration at a discount. It is up to you whether you consider this offer to be a good deal, but you might want to consider something before you do it.

Are you positive that you will still want to own the domain name after the first year? Will you still be in business in a year? Will you have graduated to a bigger, much different online business or another business entirely?

If you take a multi-year package, the registrar will get all the money up front and you will not get a refund if you change your business or drop out entirely.

Hosting On The Domain Registry Site

This is a likely time-saving upsell you will be offered when you register your domain name. It seems like it would be an easy, time-saving option to buy. Your domain and website would be in the same place.

Most Internet Marketers, if asked, would advise against doing this. Putting all your eggs in one basket means your entire business disappears if the domain registrar quits doing registrations or generally just goes out of business.

A better choice would be to find another hosting company that provides the options you need to make your website what you want it to be.

Finally...

The multitude of domain registrars on the internet will guarantee that there will be more offers to upgrade or to buy packages with various multiple options that sound fantastic on the surface. Since it's your money at stake, it might be wise to carefully consider what you actually need right now...not a year down the line. By then your needs could be far different than anticipated originally.

Business Opportunity Leads - Aging Of Your Domain Name

By Jim Eberle

If you are thinking about starting your very own home based internet business, there are a myriad of things you need to do to obtain those business opportunity leads. Creating a domain name is the very first thing you should do right from the start. It has to be well thought out because it should contain as many keywords as possible within it. There is another reason though why you should start this process as soon as possible.

Aging of your domain name helps SEO!

Once you have purchased a domain name from a hosting company, it obviously is new to you. It is to Google as well! When I started out, I never really gave this much thought. Try doing battle with your competition for a top spot in the search engines though if they have a domain name that has existed for several years or more! It can be even months or more. Those things grow roots and can be firmly implanted in their location of the search engines for certain keywords. Obviously, that is not the only reason they are hard to compete with. They have done the other things they need to do for search engine optimization as well and have been doing so for quite some time. I believe though that having an aged domain name does give one an advantage.

I have read much about SEO (search engine optimization) and practiced it as well. I wish I could tell you I have seen this documented and everyone is saying the same things. I have seen conflicting viewpoints however. From my experience though and from talking to others, I do believe age counts.

Something else to consider is when you purchase a domain name, you can buy it for one year or more. It is to your advantage to get it for longer durations...two or more years if you can! Search engines give more weight to domain names that they know are going to be around much longer than the one year. I am not 100% sure of this but we are not talking about a great deal of money and if it is true, every advantage counts!

Whether or not you believe aging of your domain name is important or not, getting the correct domain name is in my opinion, the most important thing you do when starting your business opportunity. Might as well get it, list it, and then begin the other steps to building your business! The process of getting your business going could take some time if you are already working full time and have a family. Life sometimes gets in the way! If you have your domain name set up already, this is time where it can season and...every day counts! Might as well get a head start while you are working on the rest of your business!

Secret - 5 Key Points on How to Choose an Effective Domain Name

By J. M. John

To start a small business, you need a simple web site and also own your domain name with the cheap price for web hosting. Here I will share some tips how to choose the effective domain name that will help you to increase your online business:

1) Choose domain name with good suffix.
Currently, suffix ".com" still be the best choice for selecting domain name. For example, if you find something website and remember just only name for website stated, normally most of the internet users will type "xxxxx.com" rather than "xxxx.net", "xxxx.biz" or "xxxx.info".
So, the first step, the most important thing, try to obtain the name of your domain that will be ended with ".com" as far as possible to your website. But, if after you tired strive and still not successful in obtaining appropriate name to website you finished with ".com", domain name that ended with ".net" also can be considered.

2) Choose domain name with using a short name
Domain name with the short name are more disposed to remember, and it altogether reduce possibilities error to type it. So, try to obtain the domain name as short as we can. Can please less than 13 letter (excluding suffix .com). This is because, willing the study psychology, somebody more difficult / lazy or often wrong when want to spell word that exceed 13 letters.

3) Domain name must be clear and bring purpose
Good domain name is the well-define name and can respond purpose and accurate picture of something website only by uttering / mention the domain name stated. Therefore, visitor would be simple to decide whether want to proceed or not visit your website when they see your website's name any of the lists who was found in search engine.
For your information, the right domain name also obvious easy to remembered as a brand to market.

Please avoid using any number in choosing your domain name. This is because, domain name that having number can be misleading if it attempted to be spread to the public through the mouth to the mouth or voice(radio). This is because web sites such as http://www.web2u.com may be will be mentioned as "web to you" or "web two you" or "web too you". How to Do a Domain Name Search

By Peter Gitundu

Domain name search can be very helpful to do several things and one of them is to determine whether the domain name you choose is available or not. Whois protocol is an internet tool that is used to search for this information and, when you go to sites to do a domain name search, whois will give you the name of the owner and even the location. It is for this reason that people register their domain names privately, because everyone will have access to this information. The internet governing body requires that everyone who registers a domain name, give their details and this has had some advantages which include the following. Having the information available to everyone helps in the stability of the internet and there is therefore a contact point to administrators, network operators and others.

The domain name search helps to enforce the law. If there are criminals who need to be captured, it will be easy to catch them and this also applies to counter terrorism efforts. The international laws are also enforced and the information has solved many cases and gotten wanted culprits. The information also helps combat certain evils like racism, xenophobia and violence. It also helps avert abuses of human rights like slavery, human trafficking, pedophilia, child pornography and many others. It also helps solve trademark disputes and other forms of infringement on intellectual property. Ultimately, the information helps to safeguard the rights of human beings. On the down side, there has been many abuses of the information but, those who engage in this are often brought to book.

Domain name search can be done very easily on the internet and it will reveal so much and if you want to get inspired by the names, or test your creativity, you can just type a domain and see where it will lead you and, it might be available for your use. Some of the problems domain name search presents is the availability of personal details for everyone to see, when people engage in false registration, there will be no way to trace them through this and, this could be a tactic to divert the law. The information is usually not updated and when the domain owner changes their location, then, there will be incorrect information.

A domain name search takes you to whois where you type the domain name you are searching for or the internet protocol address and, you will get the information that you need. Other sites will provide simple steps that you can follow to get what you want. There is a provision for the extension and, you can search for any country you wish. There are very many popular search sites and one of them is nameboy and, you can read all about them and get to see how they work. Usually your results will appear instantly and you can have so much fun searching for domain names. One thing to keep in mind is that you should not misuse the information you find but, if you go ahead and break your state law or international law, the law will be right behind you because you cannot hide.

Are H-Y-P-H-E-N-S (dashes) - In Your Domain Name - Acceptable?

7.15.2008

By Frederick Musser

Before we can actually make a decision on the use of dashes (hyphens) in our domain names we must first understand how your typical search engine (parses) or looks at information. Many search engine algorithms are designed to separate the words in a string and look at them separately.

By understanding that, it should be perfectly acceptable to use a domain name with hyphens in it because the search engine is going to separate the words anyway. Right?

We think so anyway! We have had great luck with hyphenated domain names and so have many other online marketers. I guess the main thing is to have your own domain name rather than using a sub domain.

There are defiantly some benefits to using hyphenated domain names and they are:

- - - It's easier to read the words in a domain name

- - - The domain name you want is probably available with hyphens in it

- - - Search engines can interpret every word in the domain name

- - - If another site links to you using your site as an anchor link they can better interpret your link, thus giving you a higher ranking.

I guess the main thing we need to understand is that using a domain name with hyphens is not going to hurt your website search engine ranking any. They may be a little harder for your customer to remember though.

All in all we have used both hyphenated and regular string domain names and they have both worked well for us over the years. There needs to be at least one specific keyword in your domain name, how you achieve that really isn't relevant - use either or for your domains and you should be just fine!

Finding Your Million Dollar Domain Name

By Fione M.Y. Tan

Domain name prices costs the same whether if you have a good domain or a bad domain. What is considered a good domain name? Here are some tips to help you register your million dollar website name.

1. Use your product / service keywords into your domain name

- using a keyword in your domain name allows internet visitors to know what your website offers. For instance, if you are using selling jewelry then you can add in this keyword to your website domain name, such as 1SpecialJewelry.com

2. Avoid using dashes in your domain name

- have you seen the domain names like my-website-name.com ? Not only is this domain name hard to say out, your visitors might easily forget this domain name and misspelt the website name, causing them to end up in your competitors website of mywebsitename.com

3. Use simple words and spelling

- avoid using "big" words that visitors might not even know how to pronounce and you should always spell check the keyword before you register this

- there's nothing worse that using a keyword that you cannot even spell properly (and result in you misspelling your own website name)

4. Choose international domain names (top level TLD)

- rather than just registering your com.my for local Malaysia market or com.hk for the Hong Kong market, grab the .com name as this name is easier to remember.

- what if your competitors own the .com and you only registered the .com.sg version? Then, it's advisable to register another domain name where you can grab both the .com and the .com.sg (otherwise customers who do not type the .sg will end up going to your competitors' site)

5. Register both the singular and plural versions

- if your keywords have singular and plural versions, it will be better to register both versions of the domains, such as flower.com and flowers.com

- this mistake can even be seen in the cases of some popular websites like ediets.com (one of the most popular online diet website). If you entered the singular version of diet, you will go to ediet.com and guess who owns this? (not eDiets.com)

6. Register your company / brand name

- if you manage a widely known brand name of products then you should grab the name of this product itself. For instance, you run a family business of restaurants called Aunt May, so you should grab auntmay.com, auntymayrestaurant.com and auntmayrestaurants.com.

Wait no more and go to online domain registration companies to check for your available domain names today, such as http://www.FreeDomainsRegistration.com

How to Buy a Domain Name

By Peter Gitundu

The easiest thing to do is to buy a domain name and the reason why I say this is because you do not have to go over your text wondering whether your idea was good enough. People buy domains because they have noticed a name that their business or organization would be enhanced by. You can easily buy a domain name online and all you have to do is to search for the sites which have domain name resellers and choose your pick. You might want to buy a domain and you have not yet picked any specific name and by viewing the hundreds of options available, you will get to know which name sounds like your business. Before you buy any domain name, you need to consider some important details and they include the following.

You need to consider the following about your company your name, the products and services you intend to sell, the type of marketing you wish to engage in and the kind of traffic you want to attract. These details, will help you know exactly how to do a strategy and plan your business. A client or customer should be able to tell that kind of business you do by viewing your domain and it should also be short and clear. A customer should therefore be able to comfortably remember your domain if they want to refer to the site. Achieving this may need you to have somebody who can critic your options until you arrive at a suitable name. You might be overwhelmed by the numerous options but the idea is to take time and think about it.

There are domains that are very valuable and others that are not so popular. The most valuable domains are of names that are known to sell and, one such example of a domain that earned up to 3 million dollars is vodka.com. Pizza.com also sold over a million dollars in a week long online auction. You will find very cheap domain names when you buy a domain name. Sometimes, people who buy domain names are accused of not being creative enough and this might have some truth in it but, it will be unfair to label everyone. Buying a name saves you stress and heartache and it is a form of appreciating what others come up with. Therefore, providing revenue for the people who are in business and promoting the industry.

The internet is full of resources that will enable you to make the right decision and you can compare the pricing. If you are on a budget, then go for one that is affordable. Once you are pleased with what you find, make sure that all the qualities that will suit your business are present and you are now ready to register it. Register with a plan that will suit your business. This could mean that you need a private domain registration, if indeed you need your private and personal information to be protected. Buy a domain name and save yourself some heartache.

Fake PageRank Can Cost You Serious Money

By Matt Sherborne

You've probably heard of the virtual gold rush occurring over the last few years by purchasing valuable domain names and reselling them to domain speculators and companies. Purchasing the right domain name at the right time can mean big money for those in the know who spot a great deal, or jump on an emerging trend.

If you're browsing the popular webmaster forums you'll see a lot of great looking website deals. A growing problem with all of the URL's to choose from is figuring out which ones are real domain bargains and which ones are over-hyped trash.

Often, domain sellers will attempt to fraudulently inflate the stats or in the case of an established website, fake it's Google Pagerank. This score is the popular search engine Google's way to calculate the importance of websites in the Google index. When a site has Pagerank it is listed between 0 and 10. The higher the Pagerank score the better trusted the site is in the eyes of Google.

Devious webmasters often will use a 301 or 302 redirect to artificially boost the domains Pagerank. This gives the appearance of a popular and Google trusted site when in reality it is neither. Those involved with search engine optimization will be able to spot this trick a mile away, but those who are new to the domain purchasing game can lose a wad of cash purchasing a hyped up fake pr domain.

Fake PageRank is a very popular way of over inflating the value of a website domain by tricking Google in to thinking it has more clout than it really does. When someone is offering a website domain for sale one of the selling points frequently used is the website's Pagerank.

One of the tools I always use before ever purchasing an established domain is the Fake PageRank Checker Tool. With this great tool you can spot fake Pagerank and avoid a very costly mistake: http://www.seologs.com/pr-check/pagerank.html

There's no doubt that buying and selling domain names and established websites can be a great money-maker. However, it really pays to take a few careful precautions before you make a purchase to check out the claims being made and do your due diligence to ensure a successful outcome.

With your own "digital wealth engine," you can have your own money making system that delivers $100 to $500 a day from home!

Stop! You Are Just Minutes Away From Learning How to Make Money Selling Domain Names

By Jose Barreda

First of all, find a good keyword. When I say keyword, I mean a keyword with high demand (search volume) and low supply (competition). A good tool you can use for this is "Word Tracker", since it offers a free trial. But after you profit from selling your domain, you can upgrade to the paid version since free ones are very inaccurate.

Once you have a good keyword, try to get the domain with that exact same keyword. Always choose a dot com domain because they are more popular and are worth more money. Find a reliable web hosting company so you can host your web site containing your domain name. You have to do this because you need to drive some traffic to your domain so you can sell it at a very good price.

You might want to look for a hosting package that offers hosting, a web site builder, and a domain name. This will save you a lot of time and stress and you will not have to transfer anything later.

Before you buy your domain name, double check it is the same keyword you just found. If your selected keyword is not available as a domain name, make some alterations to it. For example, if your keyword is "candles" and it is not available, you can try "candles101" or some other alterations.

The next step is to build a website for you domain name. It is always better if you build a multi-page site (a site with more than one page) since these type of site are more attractive to search engines. Write a few articles related to the keyword and build site pages. Make sure all your content is unique. Sign up for an AdSense account and for some affiliate programs, this way you will be making money out of the website too.

Then focus on building traffic to your site. You can use some free methods to drive traffic such as article marketing, or some paid ones such as pay-per-click marketing. Also, get some links to your website.

If you are getting a decent amount of traffic to your site, you'll get an Alexa rating. If you thing your rating is good, then look for a domain name appraiser and see how much your domain can go for. By doing this you'll get an idea of how much your domain is worth. If the number appears to be too low, don't get disappointed. It can be because there are people who care more about the traffic your domain name is receiving over the SEO elements of it.

Whenever you are ready to sell or auction your domain, just do it and if you want to include your original website, you can do it too. Once you sell the domain you will need to transfer it to the new webmaster's account. You can contact your hosting company for more help about this.

What's in a Name? If It's a Domain Name - Everything

By Russ Grimm

When selecting a domain name, it's important to take into consideration the impact that name will have on your business and with your prospective customers. Names can hurt sometimes, so be careful with your choice in words.
I don't mean to write about a topic that's been written about so many times and by so many authors just to have another article published. However, I believe it's one worth repeating. Let's face it; your domain name is a part of your business that will be with you for a long time. You can change the layout of your site; the colors; and the products you sell. But you cannot go and change your domain name at will...You're stuck with it. Therefore, make it count.
So, how do you find a good domain name; what are some of the 'rules' when selecting the name for your site? Well here are just some of the basic rules you will need to consider:

1. Make it Simple - A one word domain name is best. It's probably next to impossible to achieve today. But if you're lucky enough to find a single word that describes your site; then take it. Don't be discouraged if you need to create a phrase name instead of a single word. If "Best.com", is already taken, then perhaps, "TheBestSite.com", can be a good alternative.

2. Easy to Remember - This is the main reason for the 'one word' site name, it's easy to remember. Nevertheless, even a phrase-name can be easy to remember, if thought out properly.

3. Easy to Spell - Whatever the name or phrase- name you choose it's has to be easy to spell. If your prospective customer needs to be a great speller in order to locate your site, you're only hurting yourself. Do not use fancy words; or incorporate other languages. If your store is the "yes" store, do not consider calling your website the "Qui store.com". If you use words that are not of the common vernacular, your potential customers will soon become frustrated in trying to locate you and stop visiting altogether. That is, If they don't bookmark your site.

4. Don't - Stay away from the hyphens, or the plurals. If the hyphen is not placed properly or left out altogether, your customer will most likely end up on somebody else's site, not yours. Even worse yet, a competitor's site. Do not use a well known brand name. Just because the 'dot com' has not been purchased yet doesn't mean to go out and get it. You'll lose in the long run. Big corporations are just that, 'big corporations'; moreover, you're not. They will come after you, and you will lose.

5. Do - Consider purchasing variations of your site's name. Most Registrars (where you buy your domain name) will provide to you variations of the site name that is available. If your site name is "Bananas.com" consider the following variations: "thebananastore.com, or "bananas.net". You have to think about the person searching for your site or brand with Google or Yahoo. It's easy to add the word "the" before any site name, and before you know it, your customer is on another website...not yours. Stick with the '.com' extensions and avoid the others...especially if your website is an ecommerce site. It's easy to get frustrated when trying to acquire your domain name; most of the good names are already taken. Don't go down the wrong path and compromise a good domain name by accepting the '.net' , or the '.org' extensions because you think there is no other choice; that's wrong. You will have to be creative and work with keyword phrase names instead of the single word name.

6. Keyword - Whenever possible, always include a keyword as part of your name. If your name is 'Mike', and you sell windows, then the obvious domain name (if available) will be, 'MikesWindows.com'. If your company installs windows, then 'MikesWindowInstallations.com'. You're all about windows, so why not have the word 'windows' as part of your site's name...Think about the Google searcher. You will have a hard time getting people to locate your site if the name was 'MikesInstallations.com'. It doesn't completely describe what it is that you do. When GOOGLE first started out, nobody knew what the heck this company was about. The name doesn't really tell you anything. It took years before they started to become a well known name. You don't have years; nor can you afford to wait for a long period of time.

There are more things to consider when selecting a name than just the six, I've listed above. Nevertheless, I believe these to be some of the most important ones you should take into account when deciding on a good domain name.
The old saying goes: 'sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me'. Well, in the virtual world of the Internet, that's not always true. A poorly selected domain name will hurt you, and it will hurt for a long time. Take the time to think about your business, your brand, and the person searching the Internet. If you will do that, and then apply the basic rules I've listed, you will avoid a boat-load of disappointment and the spending of a lot of money for those pay-per-click ads to compensate for a poor domain name selection.

Why a Free Domain Name is Convenient

By Peter Gitundu

You do not have to pay for a domain name because you can find a free domain name. The free services come with different features and you can get to read some of the details on the internet. The free domain name gives you the opportunity to have a name in the most convenient way. There are things to consider while choosing the free domain name so that you can achieve what you wish with the domain. You may want to facilitate the growth of your business by getting a huge web traffic. You may also want to increase your presence and build a formidable brand name. You can achieve all this but, you need to create an address that will attract many people to your site.

The first thing you should consider when deciding a free domain name is what message you expect the potential customers to perceive when they see your domain and they should perceive several things. They should know what kind of business you deal with and know the products and services, they should remember the domain without having to struggle and they should appreciate it for serving a marketing purpose. A good domain name should be short, concise and appealing. It should be able to draw people and make them curious of what you are offering. There are domains that you might see and not get curious and it is obvious that the names are missing something.

If you have a serious business, you need to have a name that is not goofy. This is because the customers need to take you seriously. If you are in show business, an informal way of presenting your domain will be helpful and this reflects the nature of the business. It is good to take the tips that are usually available on sites. Do not use symbols or abbreviations but instead, you can use hyphens and letters to create your free domain. You must be very careful when companies announce they are offering free services. There might be hidden costs and therefore, before you get it, you must know what the deal entails. They will also have free registrations and this can provide a very good opportunity for you to acquire a name with ease.

If you wish to have your free domain name registered privately, then you need to find out whether the company offers this service and if they do not, find another free domain with a private plan. If you find that you need to pay for the private policy, it will be worth it because you will be protecting very vital personal information from the scrutiny of the public. Many people continue to abuse this privilege and cause so much harm to businesses and individuals. When you are protected, the people trying to connect to you will be directed to the company that has registered your domain, and they will alert you. It is a helpful way to protect your business. If you do not have a domain name, get one for free and you do not have to start a site immediately.

How to Choose and Register a Domain Name For an Internet Marketing Site

By Lee Cole

Once you get your web hosting squared away, you're going to have to register a domain name for your new website. I use a web host that also registers domain names. It's more convenient that way.

There seem to be two schools of thought about the importance of the domain name. Let's talk about the issues surrounding this.

Some people think you need a memorable domain name, like businesses need a memorable name. My feeling is, yeah, that's important, but not nearly as important in the online world as in the off-line world.

This all gets back to our discussion about how visitors get to your site. People don't discover your site by typing in the URL. I don't think I've ever had anyone refer me to a site by telling me the name of the URL. Unless it's in the sphere of a site like Digg or StumbleUpon, the number of people who discover a site through a referral has to be almost nil. Within Digg or StumbleUpon, yeah, sure you discover sites recommended by your peeps, but the platform takes care of the details.

Usually when I read the results from a Google search, I check out the domain name, especially if the blurb about the website is unclear. So, your domain name could affect your traffic that way. Although I don't really think there's going to be too much of a negative impact there, either. (Unless there's too much of a disconnect between your page's content and the name of your site.)

When I decide on a domain name I look at my main keyword phrase and see if I can get anything out of that. I brainstorm and make a list of ten or twenty names. I have to go through this process to choose a good domain name. Although, usually after I've done all of this, the name just pops into my head at some random time.

Try to keep the name down to three words. Two would be better, but I don't know if I've been able to think of a two word name lately that hasn't been taken. A good trick to make your name more readable by human's is to put hyphens between the words.

This isn't a real domain name (or at least I don't think it is-I didn't check it to see), but if your website was about model English trains, and you wanted your domain name to be www.modelenglishtrains.com, it's better to put hyphens between the words. Look how much easier it is to read this: www.model-english-trains.com.

According to Google's information at the Webmaster's Tools, the hyphens are easier for the search engines to read, also. In addition, the second URL is much easier for a human to read than the first, and it will encourage humans to click on the link for your page from the search engine results page.

Although I register my domain names through my web host, you can also look them up through Yahoo!'s domain registration page. You can Google that and find it. Either way is fine.

You'll want your domain to end in a .com or a .net. Nothing funky. If you can't find one of the standard suffixes for the name you've chosen, then find another name.

Why You Should Register a Domain Name Today

By Peter Gitundu

To register a domain name, you need to be sure of the name first. And, your name needs to have some qualities before you trust it to serve you the way you want. You have the provision to register up to 63 characters but, your name needs to be very short and simple to remember. It is advisable to use hyphens if your name is more than 3 words long. This is done to simplify it because you do not want people to be stressed out when they are reading the name. Multiple extensions will discourage people from having the same domain name as yours and this means that if you have a name like merpetsales dot com, you can also register merpetsales dot net. Your domain should be catchy and interesting and once you have fulfilled this requirements, you are ready to register a domain name.

It is very simple to register a domain name and many companies offer this service and it is up to you to choose the registrar. Firstly, they must be registered and therefore legal. They must also provide a service that is affordable and it is very cost friendly to register a name. One of the most advisable thing to do while registering a domain, is to use private registration. This is necessary because you want to keep your personal details out of the public eye. This will be done by the registrar and, if the company you are considering does not have this option, you need to find one that does. This kind of registration was not available a while back and you therefore need to take the opportunity and have your details protected.

You should do a thorough search of the internet and make sure that every information on how to register a domain name is on your finger tips. Constant change of a domain name may do more harm than good to your company. If you are not totally sure of the name, leave it for a while until you analyze it with a more clear mind. Asking other people about how they feel about the name will give you different perspectives. You might change your domain in a bid to remodel your business or if you have changed your operations to something different. This is not the same as somebody who is unsure of the name.

When you register a domain name, you are bound to see a difference if the name is good. The first thing that you will discover is that the credibility with your clients will increase and your brand name will be stronger. The other thing that will happen consequently is that your marketing will be better and all this will enhance your business. This is exactly what you want to achieve and it can only come if you take the above tips. When you have your own site, you will have fun a you build something that can become very successful in the future. Do not hesitate to register today because the possibilities are amazing.

Finding Great Domain Names

By Alex Johnson

When it comes to domain names, a lot of experienced Internet users will tell you - all the good ones are taken. And while that's not entirely true, it's very likely that in most cases, you may not be able to get your first choice - or your second!

Many individuals or small business owners who are new to the process of registering a domain name aren't sure where to begin. You can check availability of domains at thousands of sites, but if you suspect that your first choice won't be available, it's best to use an availability tool with an alternate domain suggestion feature, such as the one found at domains.yahoo.com.

The suggestion feature at domains.yahoo.com uses variations of a domain name, including plural form, synonyms, alternate domain extensions like .net and .org, and common word associations to suggest relevant domain names that are available.

The Yahoo! domain name lookup is also recommended because lesser known registrars have been found to sometimes sell query information to spammers and data miners, who would then use the information to register the domain if the searcher waited. If they decided to get it later, they would have to purchase through the new owner at a much higher price.

Additionally, Yahoo! and other respected registrars such as 1&1, GoDaddy, and Register.com, offer a secure payment process that protects your payment information.

When you find an available name that suits your needs, be sure to register it through one of the popular domain providers. I recommend Yahoo Domains, because a Yahoo domain name comes with 24/7 customer support, and a variety of features.

Domain Registration Advice

By Helen Cox

If you are new to the domain registration process then you may not realise what is involved in it. Well one of the first steps that you need to ensure when it comes to registering your domain name is assuring that you have the right to register/transfer the domain name of your choice you need to search and ensure that your desired name is available. Once you have confirmed that the name you would like is available you can move on to registering, which is a lot easier than you think.

If you are considering or you are in the process of registering a domain name then you might want to consider using an ICANN accredited registrar. This comes highly recommended as these registrars have entered into an official agreement with ICANN that states they will meet minimal requirements for providing domain registration. If you would like more information about what ICANN is all about then I advise that you take a look at ICANN's website.

If you are new to the domain registration process then you may be asked to setup a free new account as part of your order process. Once your account is setup you will be required to provide contact information, which will be publicly available through the WHOIS database. Once your information has been entered into the WHOIS database anyone can then go into it and enter your domain name to see who has registered it.

The act of domain registration is the process by which a company or individual can secure a website domain. Once you have completed your domain registration the domain becomes yours for the period of the contract, which is usually one year. Before registration expires it must be renewed. If not the domain reverts back to being available to the general public.

Once you have registered your domain name it will take a few hours or even in some cases up to a few days for people to be able to see your domain online. Until this time your domain will be what is known as 'parked' and it will be labelled as being under construction. Parking a domain that you have just registered is very inexpensive and most registrars offer this service for merely a small fee. This gives you time to produce and construct all of the content that you want to place on your site then when you are ready to supply the content you will have to get a web server to host the domain. The registrar that you have used might also provide a hosting service but you may wish to transfer your domain to another web hosting company.

It is important that you note that ordering web hosting services is a separate process from domain name registration and DNS modifications.

If you are hoping to register your domain then it is advised that you contact a couple of domain registrars to find which one will provide you with the best service at the best price.

Tips For Selecting a Domain Name That Will Get You on the Road to Internet Success

By Bob Hamilton

If you are about to start on the road to internet success then everything about your business is deemed important. You must invest the time and energy to determine the best possible solution to every problem. You must focus on making the very best decisions for your business. One of the first decisions you must make is about the domain name for your website. Choosing a domain name is extremely important. After all a name that is hard for people to pronounce or spell is not going to help your website at all.

Yet having a domain name that basically says what your product or service is all about will help people to remember it. Using a word that will be used in search engines to find your business is called using a keyword. If you sell golf balls, you do not want to have a domain name that has nothing to do with the sale of golf balls. If your goal is to proceed down the road to internet success, then golf needs to be in the name somewhere.

Remember that using a name that is too long or difficult to spell is not recommended either. This is not conducive to people being able to remember the name. When they cannot remember your name your business takes a back seat to others with easier names. If it is hard to spell, they will give up after failed attempts to locate you.

One method for coming up with the right name to keep you on the road to internet success is to find a dictionary and write down everything you can find that is an alternative word for the product you will be selling or service you will be providing. You may be surprised at some of the common words that pop up that you did not even think about.

Having a domain name that is too close to a well known brand is not necessarily a good idea. Trademark violations can end up costing money and defeating the purpose of having a website in the first place. For this reason if there is any doubt it may be a good idea to hire either a lawyer or a search service to make sure the name you choose is not stepping on anybody's toes. Trademark infringement is taken very seriously. Any business just starting out can end up bankrupt by having to defend against this type of charge.

These are a few pointers on domain name selection. If you do a few things to protect yourself at the beginning, your business should soon be on the road to internet success.

How to Create a Website Address

By Richard Adams

One of the most common questions asked by those looking to create their own website is how to create a website address so in this article we're going to focus on just that question.

Website addresses, also known as domain names, are unique. What I mean is, if one person owns a website address, then nobody else can.

So the first trick is to find a suitable website address, then the second is to actually create it.

Good website addresses tend to have the following things in common:

1) Top Level Domain

Website addresses can end in all sorts of things - with .com being the most popular. Lesser known endings like .tv or .us tend to be cheaper to create but harder for people to remember.

Because of this I recommend you buy what is known as a "top level domain" - that is one ending in .com, .net or .org.

Typically .com is for a company, .net for an online service (like email or web hosting) and the .org is for a non-profit organization like a charity for church.

2) Short And Easy To Remember

Try to make your website address easy to remember to encourage your visitors to come back again and also to increase word of mouth.

3) Consider Keywords

Research has shown that if you make a website address that contains the exact phrase your customers are searching for you will increase the number of people who click your listing in the search engines. As a result you will increase your visitor numbers.

So if you're selling a course on dog training, so your ideal customers will be looking for phrases like "dog training" in the search engines, try to include this phrase in your website address.

An example of all the three rules so far could be EasyDogTraining.com as a website address to create.

I suggest coming up with a list of 20-30 possible website addresses because as already mentioned, they are all unique, and you'll be amazed how many of the possibilities you come up with are already registered!

Once you've got your list, head on over to BetterWhois.com and type each website address in, one at a time. This free service will tell you if the website address you just typed in is available or not.

If not, cross it off your list.

At the end you should have a short list of available website addresses from which to choose your final domain choice.

Actually creating the website address is easy. You need no license, no registration with the government etc, is required. You just go to a company known as a "domain registrar" and place an order for the website address you want.

Examples of domain registrars are GoDaddy and 123-reg.co.uk but there are literally thousands out there and a quick search in your favorite search engine should pull up a long list. There is a lot of competition so searches on "cheap domains" and so on can reveal some real bargains.

You'll pay just a few dollars to create your website address, provide a few personal details to register you as the official and legal owner and then within a few days your website address will be made and available for you to use.

And that's how easy it is to create a website address!

How to Do a Domain Name Registration

By Peter Gitundu

Domain name registration only comes when you have found a good and available domain name to work with. A lot of emphasis is placed on the domain name because this is the display the world will be seeing while accessing your site and therefore, it needs to be the very best. There are several vital things to consider before you choose a name. A good name must reflect your business or in other words, it must be able to sell you. Apart from being concise, it should be very simple and easy to remember. You cannot use spaces and symbols therefore, you can incorporate numbers and hyphens to your letters. You need to be decisive when making that domain name registration. Very many people regret their domain names and are constantly seeking to change.

When you constantly change your domain name, your clients and customers might not identify you and, you therefore need to give them something constant that will grow. There are very many companies that you can get your domain name registration. The vital thing to remember is that they must be accredited by the internet corporation for assigned names and numbers (ICANN). You should study the things you stand to gain when you register with a particular company and there will be a thorough search required so that you can make the best decision. Some registrars allow you to own the domain while others are not very clear on this aspect. You need to know that you have full control of the name so as to have the complete independence and freedom in every undertaking pertaining to the domain.

You also need to consider the reputation of the registrar and they must attract very many people because of their exceptional services. The prices also vary from company to company and you need to compare and see which one is best for you. You also need to consider privacy and since you give your private information, the public can access it including your location. Therefore, you need to consider domain name registration that will provide the tools to solve the problem. You can therefore go for a standard domain name registration or for an anonymous or private registration depending on the company you register with.

If you are asking how they get to block the public from accessing your information, it is real simply. They are alerted if somebody is trying to get your information and then, they alert you and you can decide whether you want them to reach you or not. This is the simple version of how this private registrations work. You will find a lot of information on the internet that will help you know the registration process well. Take time to really think of the registration and when you find a registrar who you think will give you all you want in a registration, go for it and you will soon have a site of your own that you can appreciate. If you make any agreements, know every detail and enter into contracts that will be fair to you and legal.

Internet Marketing Tips - Be Careful When Picking Domain Names

By Steven Wagenheim

I read the funniest forum post this morning. A friend of mine from the Warrior Forum, his name is Stewart McKay, made a post about how he was sending out emails to his list and for some reason the spam assassin score kept coming back 1.4 no matter what he did. Finally, he figured out that it was because of his domain name adwordsexcellence. Can you see why? Yeah, that's it. Can you believe that? Just because inside the domain name spelled a certain word, he got hit with a spam score. This is why it is so important to be careful when picking out domain names.

Okay, so just how do we go about picking out domain names? Well, for starters, you want a domain name that is going to clearly represent what your product is about. So let's say that you're writing a book on how to cure acne naturally. You might want to come up with something like naturalacnecure. What if you're writing a book on gardening. You might want to come up with something like gardeningtips. Now, a lot of people ask if they should use com, net, org, info, ws or something else. Let's move on to that next.

There is no denying that dot com is the most common used. The reason is simple. Most people, when they think of a web site, they think of it being dot com. It was the first and it will always be the most commonly thought of. So, if you can get a dot com domain, get it. However, having said that, if the domain that you want is not available and the name is so perfect for your product that you'd be foolish to use anything else, then you're better off going with net, ws or even tv if you can get it. The name of the domain is more important than the extension.

Finally, as in the case above, please check your domain name to make sure that you don't have any words in it that can get you into trouble either with spam scores or with the law. Some words are copywrited or patented and they're not allowed to be used by anyone other than the company. So if you're going to apply for a domain name with a known company name in it, you might want to think twice about doing it. I've read many horror stories about people being sent letters to take down their websites.

If you take care in choosing a domain name, you'll end up with one that will serve you well for many years to come.

To YOUR Success,

Steven Wagenheim

What is a Domain Name Reseller?

By Helen Cox

Many people often think about the idea of becoming a domain reseller as being a complicated procedure when in fact the whole process is rather simple. The term reseller refers to a company or individual who purchases goods/services with the intention of selling them on as opposed to consuming or using them. This is usually done with the intention of making a profit.

Domain resellers are a perfect example of the definition of the term reseller domains. Resellers are individuals or companies who act as agents for ICANN accredited registrars. They either sell for commission or to make a profit. Domain name resellers are companies or individuals selling their own domain names. It is important that domain resellers are not confused with speculators. These speculators purchase many domain names with the intention of holding them and selling them at some future time for a high profit, where as reseller, by the very nature of their business are pretty much retailers.

Reselling domain names is a low cost way to enter the domain name market. If you are hoping to purchase reseller domain names or if you are hoping to become a domain reseller then it is important that you approach the situation via ICANN. ICANN are the international body that regulates the domain industry and it requires accredited companies to have certain levels of assets. Once a company is an accredited provider, they have access to lower cost registrations.

If you are hoping to become a domain name reseller you will need to have a reseller hosting account with a hosting company. You can then host all of your domains on that account as well as sell domains to other people. You can get your secondary accounts through internet marketing or offline marketing strategies.

An example of when it makes perfect sense to become a domain reseller is when you are a web designer or a web hosting company. Becoming a domain reseller holds great business potential. Whether you're a web designer, developer or search marketing service, or you're looking to establish your own domain management service, you could benefit from the help of an established provider.

Due to the recent increase in domain reseller companies more and more people are now turning to reseller domain companies; however, as previously mentioned, it is highly important that you opt for a domain reseller company who is ICANN accredited. This is because UK based ICANN registrars are trusted names in domain reselling who provide a number of support services. ICANN accredited registrars provide low wholesale prices, exceptional customer service, and state-of-the art IT infrastructure. This means you will be provided with the service and savings that you depend on to confidently become a reseller of domains.

Whatever your reason or need for using a domain reseller company it is important that you find a domain reseller that is best suited to your business or individual needs. Also remember to opt for a domain reseller company or business who is an ICANN accredited registrar.

Tips When Finding a Domain Name

By Mike Selvon

If you have arrived at the stage where you have a business that you would like to present online, then you will need to build a website and take care of domain name registration. The domain name that you choose will be your unique website address and you will use it in your advertising and marketing to attract visitors to your site. Right now, because there are so many people starting internet businesses, it can be challenging to find the right domain for your site.

There are many domain registration companies that provide name registration services for domain names. The registrars all have access to and search through a centralized database that contains all of the records of current domain names.

This database includes basic information about who registered the domain, or hostname, and when the registration will expire. When registering a domain, the minimum period of time is one year, yet most registrars allow the domain to be registered for up to ten years.

Most people will choose a domain name that reflects the theme of their website that they plan to build. Their domain web hosting also uses that website address. Others prefer to register a domain that includes all or part of their name, making it very personal.

Choosing a domain or hostname, is an important part of starting a web-based business. The name you choose for your domain it is the main thing that people need to remember so that they can find your website and it is what you will be promoting through your advertising and marketing efforts.

In essence, the domain name for a website becomes the "brand" that is most visible through marketing strategies. As anyone who has been around marketing can attest to, branding is a very important and fundamental element in building a name and reputation for any kind of business entity. This is why it can be a challenge to find the perfect name for your site, and why there is so much competition to register names that are descriptive, short and memorable.

Once you have found a good hostname that is available and you have had it registered, be sure to keep your contact information current with the registrar that you used and make a note of the date that your registration will expire. If you have been able to secure a good name, then be careful not to let it expire.

If you don't renew it because you didn't receive the renewal email notice from the registrar, then someone else could easily come along and register your domain. When that happens, all of the marketing and advertising you have done will no longer benefit you and your website, but will go to the new owner of the domain.

After the domain name has been registered, the next thing you will need, if you don't have it already, is a domain web hosting package that will provide the server space where your site files will reside. Your new domain needs to be forwarded to the web servers of your hosting provider, then in short order your site will be live and ready to receive visitors.

A free gift awaits you at our portal site, where you can enrich your knowledge further about the domain name. Your comment is much appreciated at our dedicated server hosting blog.
