Buying Expired Domain Names - Some Simple Suggestions

6.30.2009

By John Bj Khu

Hundreds of expired domain traders buy a number of expired domain names, sell them to the highest bidder or flip them into useful web sites to make more money and profit. However, most of them commit a number of mistakes and blunders in the process, which could be due to a number of reasons and factors. Here are some simple suggestions and tips to help you in buying good expired domain names:

Dropped domains can be anything! If a domain was dropped by its previous owner, you may not be too sure about its quality and commercial viability. A dropped domain is not as good as a domain purchased from a person who no longer needs it. Dropped domains may not show good return on your investment, as the inherent quality of those domains will be still under doubt vis-a-vis traffic and incoming links. Under usual circumstances, dropped domains can result in a total loss of search engine ranking as well as accumulated traffic. Google and other major search engines may delete the entire list related to an expired domain, soon after the announcement of drop. On the other hand, search engines like DMOZ and Yahoo are more liberal in their approach. Yahoo always charges a hefty registration fee of about $299 to list a particular domain. It makes sense to buy an expired domain listed on these two search engines just to save some money and time. Domains expiring must be treated in a different way, as you are not too sure of the future course of events; the dropping domain may be picked up invisible buyers through a buying process called domain backordering.

Another mistake that a number of expired domain traders commit is to hold on to their inventory in the hope that someone will come forward to buy their domains. Never ever, commit the mistake of holding on to your domains. Rotate your domains; if you find a lucrative offer, go ahead and sell it. Create a big turnover by selling your stock whenever you get a good offer. If at all you are planning to resell you domain, do not park it with anyone. Instead, create a good web site, host it with a goof host and create catchy and SEO friendly content and images. Once you feel that you have a good web portal, and then you can search for a good buyer, who is ready to pay a big price.

Before buying any expired domain, ensure that you are checking the history of domain in a comprehensive manner. The best way to conduct a comprehensive search is to use the WayBack Archive, which provides you basic information on a particular domain that has just expired. Everyone agrees that incoming links and traffic contribute a lot to the value of an expired domain. While it is very difficult for a newbie domain trader to find out if there is any traffic attached to a particular expired domain, experienced and hard-boiled ones can scent a domain that displays lot of traffic and links.

Buying and Selling Domains Safely With PayPal

By Morgan Linton

Pay Pal is a service that holds next to *no liability* for the transactions that happen through it. Sales involving "Intangible" items, i.e. a domain name are bought and sold at the risk of both parties. The number of scams - particularly with domain names that happen through Pay Pal is incredible. Pay Pal is most likely the single-largest source of fraudulent domain transactions.

There is some good news, you can take a few simple steps to vastly improve your chances of not getting scammed in a Pay Pal transaction. I'll make my disclaimer here: I always suggest domains be bought and sold using an escrow service like Escrow.com, however, should you decide to use Pay Pal this advice will prevent scams about 90% of the time.

For buyers paying with Pay Pal. Always pay with a credit card - never pay with cash or with money from your bank account. Remember, should you pay and never receive the domain, Pay Pal will have little they can do. If you pay with your bank account or cash Pay Pal is the only authority you are dealing with. Once you involve your credit card company - you are dealing with someone else's money. Think of this as bringing in the big guns. Credit card companies don't like losing money and they will fight to get their money back from scammers and online thieves.

If you don't receive your domain and have already paid, always try to get a refund from the seller first.  If this does not work then contact your credit card company - they are the only company with your best interests in mind since it is their money you are talking about!

For sellers paying with Pay Pal. Beware charge-back schemes. Just as using a credit card is a protection for domain buyers it can also be used as a tool for domain thieves to steal your domain. If you follow one simple rule then you are guaranteed success. Transfer the money you receive to your bank account and wait for it to make it into the account. Once the money hits your account a charge-back will be impossible since the money is no longer in your Pay Pal account.

You should contact Pay Pal and let them know that you have been part of what you believe to be a charge-back scheme. Pay Pal can then work with the credit card company to refute the claim. Either way, the money is in your bank account - so you have been paid, as expected for the domain.

By following these simple tips you can begin a practice of safely buying your domains through Pay Pal. I always suggest that you use an Escrow service for higher-value domains however for smaller sales Pay Pal can help to make an efficient transaction. Just remember to be very careful whenever doing business online. If something seems fishy...it probably is. By taking precautions you can prevent yourself from being the victim of a scam.

Buy Domain Names the Smarter Way

6.29.2009

By Menno Spijkstra

Domainers are online entrepreneurs who invest in domain names. It is a general knowledge that selling domains is one profitable business that can last even a lifetime. Domainers buy domains and sell it in due time. But of course, successful domainers could attest to the reality that you don't simply shop for any domains that you like and expect to resell it at a higher price in the future. You have to be a wise domain name investor if you plan this to be in this business for a long time. For some people, this kind of business may sound simple; you have to know that there are important factors that you have to put into consideration when you buy domain names.

If you aim for a long term and rewarding domain name investment, then you have to do this business the right way. And the right way to do it is by evaluating which names are worth buying and have the better potential of being sold at a good price in the future. When you buy domain names, you have to be a little bit more particular with the extension. I am referring to those .com, .org, or .net. The list can just go on and on since there are just too many extensions these days. Be that as it may, it is still very evident that .com extension is the most popular and widely used.

Thus, when you buy domain names, go for .com names. This will definitely give you a better edge than selling domains with any other extensions. However, in countries such as the United Kingdom, the .co.uk extension is actually more popular than the .com extension. In such case, you may have to adjust your choices especially if you are based in the United Kingdom or intend to market in that area. Like any other business, sometimes you will really have to bend some rules or make your standards a little bit flexible. As an online marketer, you have to be open to the fact that you have to make yourself adaptable to change at all times.

Anyway, further to getting the right extension, you must also ensure that the name that you will buy is easy to recall. You know too well that internet users and even website owners prefer those names that are easy to remember. For online entrepreneurs buying a domain name, it is important that their website address does not only represent their kind of business but also make it easier for their business to be promoted online. Majority of internet users don't like to memorize long website addresses. Thus, when internet marketers buy domain names, they also make sure that what they buy are easy to recall domains.

This is a good point that you must keep in mind so you don't end up with a bunch of domains that no one will buy. When you practice making wise decision-makings when you buy domain names, you will surely last long in this business. This is a lucrative industry just like real-estate is offline.

Beware of New Domain Fraud

By Lisa Rae Preston

You've decided to put up a website and have registered the perfect name! Congratulations! Did you choose private domain registration? Most people don't, due to the extra few dollars it adds on to the price. Many folks naturally opt for the cheapest domain registration. But there's one important point you're going to want to take note of immediately.

There's a rotten little deal going around in which professional scammers ferret out personal contact information from the Who-is database and call unsuspecting domain owners to peddle their wares at take-total-advantage-of-you prices.

A client of mine had registered her domains, and in a few days received a phone call from someone who found her contact info on Who-is. This time period was just long enough for her to realize that setting up her own website was more frustrating than it appeared to be initially. The guy "John" was full of promises and wanted to "sell" her his website design deal, even offering to host her site for a mere $94 a month.

My heart sank to my knees as she was talking. I thought, "Oh, no! You didn't!"

Thankfully, she said she'd think about it and hung up.

If you've just registered a domain, be aware that unless you bought the additional private domain registration, your personal contact information will be available for the world to see.
In some cases, there may actually be a reason not to want the private registration - and
that was the case with my client. Hers was a non-profit which she wanted to promote and for which she wanted to be contacted.

In general, you can stave off most of these vultures by purchasing a private registration when you buy your domain. It's normally only a few dollars extra, and may well be worth the headache, even for experienced webmasters.

So just beware that some people may find your contact information online and try to offer you loads of "deals" - from hosting and design to SEO work - all at "break-into-your-wallet" prices. I've gotten emails from "companies" shortly after registering my domain, assuring me that they can drive tons of traffic to my new site, or rank me on Google's first page, etc.

I make it a habit to ignore all calls and emails from folks trying to sell me things about which I did not inquire in any fashion.

Just wanted to let you know about this in case you haven't had this experience - yet!
Since the cheapest domain registration may cost you a lot more in the long run, choosing a private domain registration can save you a headache and a half!

9 Easy Steps to Changing Your Domain Name Servers (DNS)

6.28.2009

By Liz Canney

You have decided to start your own website, you have purchased a domain name, and now you want to point the name to a different hosting company. To do this you have to transfer your files to your new host by changing your Domain Name Servers DNS.

When you purchase your new domain name your host will provide you with your domain name server details usually by email. File and keep this in a safe place, better still make a hard copy, because if you ever decide to change your hosting you will need this information.

The DNS "Domain Name Server you have just purchased will automatically point to the registrars parked page. You will not need to change your DNS if you have purchased both your domain name and hosting from the same registrar.

But what happens if your hosting is not with the same company where you purchased your domain name? If this was the case your registrar would not know where your site is hosted and your site would not show online.

This is easily fixed, all you have to do is point your registrar toward your hosting company and just link them together.

How to Change your name servers

1. Go to your registrars home page ie GoDaddy

2. Log-in and go to your account

3. Then find "Manage Domains" or something similar and click on this.

4. Select the domain you want to transfer

5. Look for the button marked nameservers/manage nameservers.

6.You will now be given the option to change your nameservers

7. Click on "Custom Nameservers" It may be a little different with your registrar for example, "Edit Nameservers/manage nameservers"etc.

8. A new page will appear and you will see that the current nameserver settings are already filled in.

9. Delete these nameservers and replace them with the nameservers provided by your new hosting company.

Remember the details were sent to you by email and you kept them in a safe place. Right!!

That's it, done! How easy was that?

5 Effective Tips to Make Smart Business With Domain Names

6.27.2009

By Richard Mo

Domain names are very vital for defining the online identity of any business. Hence when a business decides on acquiring a domain name, they are very particular about some specific factors. Here are five such factors that make a domain name important for a company.

Keep It Short And Easy To Remember

When selecting a domain name, make sure the name is short and quite catchy. A long name is often hard to remember due to its spelling and pronunciation. A short and easily memorable name is more desirable by any businessman and hence would generate greater demand when you want to sell it. A short name even helps in advertising through word of mouth.

Easy Spelling

A domain name that has a simple spelling would sell much better than one that seems to be complicated. Complicated domain names will make users commit mistakes when jotting down the URL of any business, and can never be able to get to the site in question because of such reasons.

Relevance To Businesses

When you decide to get hold of domain names and later sell them to other business owners, try to look for names that are likely to correspond more closely to businesses. Going for names that describe the nature of business effectively will the chances of more businesses approaching you for the name.

You can come across domain names that use the brand name instead of using a descriptive name. While such names help to generate brand awareness among the customers, they will most likely prove to be of little use for the new businesses.

Extensions

Choose a proper extension when selecting you domain name. Try to use the extensions like .org, .net, .com, .edu, .biz, etc appropriately depending on what type of businesses your target buyer is. For example, go for .edu when you want to sell a domain name related to education.

Keywords

Domain names that contain keywords are also very desirable for the businesses as such names help with search engine optimization. A proper keyword contained in the name helps the URL to get a better rank among the other results. This attracts more buyers for such a domain name as well.

Keep these five points on your mind and you can be very successful with your business related to the reselling of domain names.

4 Ways to Maximize Your Domain Flipping Profits

By Andrea Brown

Many people refer to domains as virtual real estate. Because of that, domain flipping is quickly becoming as popular and profitable as house flipping. The only problem with domains is that online, people think that they can do everything quicker. Virtual real estate takes time just like physical real estate does. Follow these tips to maximize your profits in domain and site flipping.

1. Patience is key in practically anything and everything you do in life. Things can't be rushed- especially important things. If you want to flip a domain to receive the most money out of it as possible, you need to be patient and allow the domain to age. People don't like to buy domains that are new web. Newly registered domains don't have any traces in search engines which is the main reason buyers avoid registering their own domains. They want to buy from someone who's already given the domain a little reputation.

2. Don't leave the website sitting. Even if you don't feel like making content or putting up a website script, the worst thing you could do it allow your domain registrar to rake in all the profits from the domain parking. At least park your domain under your own account to get the few dollars that it generates.

3. Another way to maximize your profits in domain flipping is to put up a website script or content page. Adding website content to your domain not only gets it indexed in search engines, but it also sends a little traffic. You could even charge extra to include the website with the domain when it's time to sell.

4. For those who want to make a profit worth a year's salary, it really doesn't even take much more work. It takes smarter work. To increase your gains even more, build a content site with multiple pages. Do just a small bit of promoting, build some backlinks, and get a good amount of traffic flowing. If you can do this for about three or four months, you could see a profit of 300 percent.

Maximizing your profit in domain flipping isn't challenging at all. It simply takes time which most investors are scared to spend. However, if one were to do so, he or she would see profits ten times what they are seeing now. Many people make a living...

online just from domain flipping! Following these steps will allow you to do so, too! Click here to learn how to make a living just off of domain and site flipping in this course!

3 Ways to Increase Your Domain's Value

6.26.2009

By Andrea Brown

After buying a domain name for an investment, you may be confused about where to go from there. You don't want to list the domain immediately, but you definitely don't want to just forget it. Following these three simple steps to increasing your domain's value will be the difference in making a profit and making a salary!

1. When someone buys your domain name, they expect you to have done something to it. Perhaps the easiest way to make a killing from a domain investment is to simple hold it. If you really don't have the time to increase the domain's value buy uploading a website or sending it traffic, let it age. Older domains are more valuable than newly registered domains. If you can keep a domain name for two years, you will make five times more money from it! Another benefit of holding a domain is that you can gain a page rank. If you redirect your domain name to a site with a high page rank, it will eventually take over that site's page rank. Thus, you will have increased your domains value almost 200%.

2. Another way to increase your domain's value with minimal work is to write a single keyword rich article related to your domain name. Since you're only going to write one, make sure it's phenomenal. Put lots of long-tail and short-tail keywords that are highly searched. Publish it on your website with a search engine friendly template and just let it sit for a while. After about three months, you'll see your traffic shoot up and you might even gain a page rank. If you want to speed up this process, publish more than one article. This takes almost no work, but will give your domain 200% more value.

3. Lastly, if you want to make your domain more valuable, put a quality site on it. Invest some real time and maybe even a little money. Gain backlinks, bring in some traffic, and get a page or Alexa rank. This will require frequent maintenance, but your domain will have a value increase of over 500%. If you include the website in your sale, you could see even more than that!

Simply buying and selling domains isn't going to make you any money. However, if you follow a strategy, you can really make a salary from easy work. Whether you just let your domain age or you host a site on it, you can do something to increase your resale amount.

3 Things You Need to Know About Internet Domain Registration

By James Koh

The fad now is the internet, and it is not unusual for anyone, personal or business, to want to get online and there are plenty of options for you if you have made that decision. The internet has become an emporium of choice for anyone wanting to register a unique domain name, make a calling card of their own when going online. Marking your presence online is easy, but getting yourself out there can be really hard and it is all down to the type of internet domain registration that you are aligning yourself with. A domain in essence is really your address on the internet, and it is the digital real estate that will be attached to whatever it is you are doing online.

When choosing a domain or a domain name, there are certain things you need to know and some street smart aspects you can keep in mind to make sure you make the right decision. One of the things you need to know is the type of domain company that you are signing up with and make sure you read everything you can about the contract that you are signing up with. One of the things that you need to make sure is that length of time that you are going to be tied down, as most companies would give a customisable option for you. It could be as little as 6 months and as long as 10 years, the package really depends on you.

Also, make sure that you are getting the best rates out there and check against the type of service that they are offering. A good way to do this is to check the natural feedback mechanism of the internet and start finding out what people think about the domain host, its speed, its technical support and other factors that are quite important in determining your overall decision. Some of the domain websites out there can be quite expensive, but they do not give you the speed or the type of services that justify the price. Last but not least, you also need to look at the customisable options of the name and how much digital exposure this domain host has.

This helps you to drive traffic to your website, and the fundamental of this is the type of web hosting script that is given to you. These are your basic web building tools that you need to build up your website, the tools you need to set up your content management and perhaps other commercial aspects of your website. These are some of the things you need to know about Internet domain registration and making the right decision really depends on many more factors. Like getting property offline, you will need to do plenty of research and perhaps even get an agent. There are roaming web hosting agents online that help you to get the best deals, tailored to your budget, but their necessity is still in question. With so many choices out there, making the right decision should not be a problem.

3 Best Domain Extensions For Domain Flipping

By Andrea Brown

In the immense world wide web, there are literally millions- possibly billions- of domain names. The .com extension has ruled this virtual world since its creation. New extensions are created yearly; however, most are country code specific, too expensive to register, or just not as catchy as existing extensions. Choosing the right domain extension for your investment is vital and will usually determine if your domain will sell or become a failed site flip.

1. The obvious best domain name extension for site flipping is .com. It's the oldest, most popular extension and it will stay that way for a long time. It's catchy and universally known. On the downside, many valuable .com domains have already been registered by domain investors waiting to sell them. New investors must really brainstorm to discover unregistered .com domains that will produce a worthy profit.

2. Although .com domains seem to be on a different level than other TLD's, the .org extension is quickly catching up. Organizations are not the only groups of people looking for this extension anymore. Open-source product makers, sports teams, schools, churches, and communities are looking for .org domain names to host their sites. If the .com domain isn't available, seek the .org extension instead.

3. Since most domain buyers are very picky, it's important to have a popular extension. If you don't, buyers will happily find another domain from another seller. This being said, the .net extension is the third best domain extension for domain flipping. When visitors see the .net extension, they almost immediately think of a "network." This extension is highly favored by companies and online networking sites. But again, this extension should only be invested in if you have an absolutely perfect keyword domain and the .com and .org are taken.

Domain names have to be perfect. Since the options are unlimited, investors must make sure that even the extension is perfect for the buyer. Most buyers won't even consider purchasing a domain with an ugly extension. It's the difference between a sale and a failed site flip!

Eight Reasons to Just Adore Generic Keyword Domains

By Andrew Edgington

It has been virtually been 15 years now since the Internet first took off and I still find that some marketing people still don't give domain names any importance. They just think that they can get away with just some decent content, a few links, a blog and by putting together a couple of videos and with all that Google will find you with ease. Wouldn't it be nice if it were that easy.

Of course there will always be a few who get through the net into Google territory and achieve a top ranking. The initial period may seem to bring in a lot of traffic, the mailing list will increase significantly and you may be able to make your brand grow. The problem as you grow larger is that a poor domain name will lead to hindering your campaign as people will have problems to remember a poor domain name that is both difficult to remember and hard to spell correctly, especially if it just isn't relate to your niche.

I can remember an extreme case back in the dotcom days a domain name called Quokka.com. Maybe you too can remember how this domain spent tons of their investors cash on a full publicity campaign including TV and all that for a non-brand and of course it went pear shape. Maybe if you think back it might come to you.

If you were out of the country or whatever this Quokka.com was focused on the action sports network. Now I will leave it up to you to pass judgment but who in their tiny mind would base a whole branding campaign on a word that can't even be pronounced properly like Quokka, I just think they tried to run before they had learned to walk, but there are so many more cases like this out there so I can't stress enough the importance of a well thought out domain name.

So with all that money to spend they couldn't come up with an ideal name like actionsports.com or similar. They were in a nutshell "stupid", but now we all know better. The key benefits of generic keyword domain names are something that we all need to understand and the top reasons are;

1. Make your product more than obvious in your domain name so for example everyone knows what bestpropertyinvestments.com deal with and you can take that for granted when people actually visit your site.

2. You need to keep competitors away on a permanent basis and your domain will allow you to be the master of the keyboard. This will give you the power to just block out your competitors, which is a great way to get a business working fast. They will be forced to pay more on loads of secondary keywords, which they will need to just compete with the main keyword that you have and with all that expense they still have an inferior domain than yours.

3. Branding has become so important in today's society and there is a complete sector that just buy branded goods, so if you have the right domain name you have already won over the brand conscious customers for free that just adore Generic keyword domains.

4. Type-in traffic pays dividends: Nearly all keyword domain names will get some sort of traffic and there are others that will get just hundreds of unique visitors every day. This traffic that is driven through people who use their address bar instead of their search bar to surf the web will convert into real sales and that is a statistical fact.

5. Our favourite search engine Google as well as the rest concentrate their efforts in finding relevant sites for their users, so a site like PetFood.com would be ranked in the top 2 pages for the keyword "pet food" and will get a lot a traffic sent to them from Google for people interested in buying pet food.

6. The domain name can either be parked, rented or leased: If you decide to wait to go into the site development stage, you can be assured that there are a number of ways to benefit from a good generic keyword domain.

7. A steady investment: Generic domains investments even out do the stock market, real-estate, bonds, and overall inflation as far as high profit investments are concerned. Business giants are now seeing that the generic names that they had initially bought are now the most important component to their continuing growth.

8. Hardly any cost: It costs just $10 a year so you will soon just adore the business of keyword domains... - Domainers need to focus all of their energy on generic keyword names and ignore certain fads like LLL.coms, brandables, and numeric names that might sound good but they just don't have "real word" staying power.

Remember the power you have is in the keyboard, so make it work for you and forget about any other alternative investment.

Domain Investing - Eight Reasons to Just Worship Generic Keyword Domains

By Smash Masterson

It must be coming up for nearly 15 years since the Internet was officially launched and would you believe that there are still certain marketing guys out there who just don't grasp the importance of a private domain name. As though it was just a matter of putting a site together with some good content, starting up a blog, creating a few links and creating a couple of camtasia vids. Right, that is going to really help Google pick us out from the rest, although of course it would be nice if that were the case.

Some people though are just born lucky and will manage to get credibility from Google and make it to a number one ranking. It may seem all rosy at the beginning as the site gets regular traffic, the mailing list grows and branding projects put into place. Now the problem with a poor generic keyword domain at this stage is that a poorly created domain name just won't stick, people forget it if it is not related to your particular niche and the negative turn begins.

Back in the .com era you may recall the case of Quokka.com who went on to finance an over the top publicity campaign with their unfortunate investors money totaling millions of dollars. I find it just amazing how people could believe in a poor domain name. You could probably recall this incident if you thought hard enough.

Anyway, if you were sick or on leave or something these guys running Quokka.com were actually branding their domain site at the action sports fans and quite happy to spend top dollar. They were obviously blind or something but they aren't alone as there are so many people that invest in domain names that just aren't relevant to their product. That really is the key to success, it is a domain name that has been made to fit the product.

I really would have thought that having such a great publicity budget they could have bought a better domain name like actionsportclub.com or something close to that. They were absolute twats but fortunately for us we know a lot more now. The most beneficial side of keyword domains is best expressed through the following points;-

1. Make it bleeding obvious what your domain site is promoting so for example a site dedicated to pest infestation would do well with a name like killrats.com and I guarantee traffic will come.

2. A golden rule is business is to pay attention to your competitors and with domain names you have the advantage with absolute keyboard control. You can just block out competitors as they are forced to pay big bucks for secondary keywords as you have the top keyword in your own domain name.

3. This is where we begin to see the importance of branding as there is part of the consumer society that won't buy anything else but brand products from Generic keyword domains. So straight away we will have part of the consumer society just queuing up to get our product.

4. Type-in traffic gets benefits: The majority of keyword domain names will receive regular traffic but a few do really well out of it receiving literally 100s of daily visitors. An interesting fact at this point would be to let you know that people who use their address bar instead of their search bar to navigate on the web will be more likely to buy, so your conversion rate will be given a helping hand.

5. Google, Yahoo and most search engines will help their users by sending them to pages that are relevant to their search so the keyword "digital cameras" would probably find the domain name digitalcameras.com on the first Google page. This type of traffic generation will literally bring in thousands of visitors to that domain name site.

6. Park your domain: If you want to hold on a bit before you develop the site there is no need to worry as there are plenty of different ways to reap high benefits from a good generic keyword domain.

7. A safe investment: It has been seen that over the last few years generic domains as an investment have had better results than even the stock market, real-estate, bonds, and overall inflation. Presidents of major companies are now just seeing that the power of a generic name has converted it's role in marketing into being the backbone of companies that seek continued growth.

8. Virtually cost free: The price for the domain is just $10 per year so you will soon be dreaming keyword domains...Domainers only need concentrate on generic keyword names and push to one side fad offers such as LLL.coms, brandables, and numeric names. These may appear to be attractive offers but they lack in "real word" staying power.

- These alternative investments just don't toe the line with generic keyword domain names as they just don't have any keyboard power, so just blank those other alternatives out of your mind.

The New .ME TLD Extension

By Brian Paterson

Well I'm sure most of you are all aware about the .ME TLD extension that was released on the 17th of this month. The popularity over them was just mind boggling. They were being sold so fast that GoDaddy was not able to keep up with the WHOIS information.

People were trying to register names that had already been sold but due to the GoDaddy issue they were still being listed as available. Obviously this caused quite an upset with people as they thought they had just got a hold of an excellent premium name. Personally I didn't have that issue and was able to register PLUM.me a nice little LLLL.me

I'm not sure what my full intentions are going to be for this extension as I haven't really put much thought to it yet. Currently just have it aging nicely over at Sedo.

No one is really sure what the .ME extension is going to hold in regards to a dollar value but here are a few that recently sold in auction.

Domain Name Current Price Bids
plug.me $75 1
reminyl.me $75 1
dove.me $805 7
lastminute.me $3,605 13
wellness.me $1,855 25

Here is a listing that is currently running an auction:
insure.me 85 1D 20H $12,505

If things keep selling for prices that I have just listed im going to very tempted to hold on to the .ME TLD that I purchased. Only time will really tell what happens though. They could all just flop and become as cheap and inexpensive as the .INFO extension.

What is in a Domain Name?

By Joseph Nyamache

A domain name -- Shakespeare once asked a simple question: "What's in a name?" This article will attempt to answer the above question as far as your website is concerned. You will discover that quite a lot is at stake when it comes to a name.

A domain name is the name (usually in English) which your site will go by on the internet. This name is associated with an IP address as well, since computers and network infrastructure use these numeric addresses to locate your site - the domain name primarily purpose is to help humans to find your site.

Surprise! Do you know that having a domain name for your website is not a requirement? In contrary having an IP address is a necessity, since that's how computers will find you on the web. Having only an IP address for your site can make it difficult (to say the least) for web surfers to find your site, however.

During the early development of the internet, domain names were chosen with the goal of making it easier for people to remember the name of your site, because it was important for users to be able to type that name into their web browser. Nowadays thought with search engines, bookmarking and social media being much more useful, it is becoming less important for surfer to memorize a name.

Let me be quick to point out that however, from the standpoint of marketing it is still a good idea to have a memorable domain name for your site - for instance, greatmaps.com is better than fantasticcarstographicofrepresentationandgeographicalfact.com. While they are both descriptive of your business, it's without reasonable doubt that one is far easier to remember than the other.

Remember also that the name you decide on for your site can have a big impact on how much traffic you'll receive and how long this will take to begin. If you have a great website or great products and/or services, the word will get around - eventually. Having a good name will make things much easier for you though - like them or not, Google chose well for their name.

Given that there are literally millions of websites out there, you may not be able to get your first choice for a domain name. You might have to try a few names to find one which you want. Since there are simply so many websites, it is unlikely that you will get your first choice of domain names; but domains do expire, so you may be able to obtain the name you want at a later date if it is not available now.

You can also choose an expired domain names service or software that will search for and alert you whenever a good name becomes available. All you simply do is ask for the domain name you want and when this name becomes available you will be notified and given the opportunity to purchase it. Always remember though that it's good to have a good name but don't fret too much if it's taken.

Here is something to think about, suppose Google as we know it today as a top notch search engine wasn't performing well, their name would still be short and memorable, but who cares about a non performer and run down company? A good name matters a lot but to be effective the name must be backed up with something remarkable.

Expired domain names could be the missing key to securing your unique domain name.

Joseph Nyamache blogs on how you can make money from expired domain names.

Business Social Media - Domain Name Guide

6.24.2009

By Barry Hurd

On the web, your name can (and is) your reality. However naming yourself online isn't that simple. Choosing a domain name for a business web presence is one of the most critical items in your promotional venture: your domain name will be the nexus of your business for months, years, or even decades.

There are a list of things you should consider before embarking down your online venture:

1) Define your brand. It is more than words, but will be flavored by them. Your business brand is an image of who you are. Ask your friends, family, and peers what your ideas inspire when the words are read.

2) The idea of a business brand is to be memorable, yet effective in communicating the purpose of your business. It is usually more effective to focus on communicating your purpose, rather than just developing your widget as a term.

3) If you can't get a com extension, choose again. There are plenty of other extension like net and info, but whatever case that is: you will need to also have the com extension or risk losing your brand before it has ever been established. (Businesses should register the com, net, info extensions for a business)

4) If you think of related names in the process, register them today. $10 today is a lot cheaper than the impossibility of getting it tomorrow.

5) Keep it short. A good domain name should be one to three words long. It should not include hyphens or any other characters that are out of place. Shorter domains are generally better for two basic reasons: they are easier to spell and remember.

6) Don't be scared of going long. Yes, I just said "keep it short", but having a long domain name has the benefit of saying exactly what you do. Long domains also pull some weight in keyword search results, so having "real estate" in a real estate domain helps a site rank for those terms.

7) Multiple Domains are Okay! So many businesses lock on to the idea of having one site to send readers to. While having focus is good, multiple domains and sites allows a company to have different presentations for different audiences. Multiple domains and sites can also allow a single business to have multiple results in search engines, which allows them to conquest the first page of search results on terms that drive results.

8) Recognize how you can misspell your own domain. If you have any words that do not carry clearly when spoken or are easy to misspell, register the misspelled version of the keywords. $10 for a misspelled version of your own site name is a very affordable way of preventing client loss or competitive problems in the future.

9) Buy alternate domain names today. At less that $10 a piece, alternate domain names can provide a very reliable way to promote your business and help protect your reputation. If you have any public figures in the business, make sure to spend the $10 to buy personal name domains (firstnamelastname) and any slogans or catch phrases.

10) Realize that your domains are being promoted to both humans and search robots. They each like slightly different things and you should create a strategy for having multiple domains and how they coordinate relevant traffic to your business.

Bonus point: If you are trying to use a new domain for competitive search engine ranking, register the domain for five years. Search engines give credit to the length of a registration to help identify if a new site is a spam site being used to manipulate the search results. By committing to a longer stay, you help establish your virtual reputation in the eyes of engines like Google and Yahoo.

Do not jump the gun! Remember that a domain choice has many different angles to it. It can easily be compared to choosing a real world location for your business: where will it be? what does the neighborhood say? who will see it? how long will you be using it?

If you are a small business, then $50 to $100 to secure a domain name for a few years may seem like a major investment. For larger companies, spending $500 to $1000 for a larger competitive search optimization and brand protection effort is a good investment (for instance, do you own yoursitesucks?)

Understanding that a good domain may mean the difference between five visitors a month or five thousand, greatly changes how your business functions online. With a well organized strategy behind multiple domains, different niche streams of visitors become easier to reach and increase the chance that they will convert into business results.

How to Choose the Right URL For Your Company

By Rob Seolas

Those long hours you spent coming up with a business name aren't quite over yet. The next step is choosing an appropriate URL address to accompany it. In order to get the best internet traffic possible, careful consideration should go into choosing the perfect URL for your business.

The perfectly crafted URL consists of a few different features. First is to keep it short and sweet. Most people aren't going to remember a long drawn out URL address. If your company name is a bit longer, try coming up with an address that has to do with the services you offer instead. You can also abbreviate the company name to reduce the number of letters one has to type in. If you have choices, always go with the shortest web address you are able to.

Another option to consider during the selecting process is if the URL is catchy. Try to think of different web addresses you personally remember off the top of your head. Make sure yours is in line with others that are memorable. Having a web address that is clean, simple and catchy can greatly influence the number of visitors who will retain it.

Now that you are envisioning the perfect web address, ask yourself if it is properly descriptive. Would someone who knew nothing of your business be able to understand what you do just by seeing your URL? If not, maybe think about reworking it again. A good descriptive web address is typically much better than a URL address that has a meaningless company name attached to it.

And now that you've spent time and energy settling on a URL - make sure the thing is up, all the time. A great way to ensure this is to use URL site monitoring. URL site monitoring can be had from a variety of vendors. Check them out and engage with one. You'll love the feeling of peace knowing your site is being constantly monitored for up time.

After taking all these suggestions into consideration, it may be possible that you have come up with an even better business name for your company. The better the company name, the easier it will be to find a web address to go along with it. If you are in a position to do so, rethink your company name and make sure it's definitely what you want.

The author Rob Seolas says here about the right URL choosing for the company and how useful that URL can be for getting best internet traffic possible. You may keep a watch to monitor your site through Website URL Monitoring, Website Monitoring, Web Server Monitoring, Pixel Tracking Monitoring etc.

Be Liberal With Your Domain Registrations

By Johnny Moon

Domain Registration Is Cheap

You can get a webhost like Blue Host Web Hosting which will allow you to host unlimited domains with just one account that costs just $6.95/month. So once you've got an account like this then your only cost is the actual domain registration fee which is less than $10 per year per registration at Go Daddy. Often times there are deals on certain types of domains (such as .info) where you can get a domain for as cheap as $2/year!

Domains Gain Value With Age

It's been shown that the search engines respect older domains more than new domains. If you have an idea, buy the domain now and put up a simple site for it. Even a single page that says "coming soon" is better than nothing. If you link to it a couple of times then you can get it indexed (this is important) so that it can start gaining "age" in the eyes of the search engines. Again with the low price of domain registration there's no point in waiting. Even if you don't get to working on it for a year, you'll be glad you already bought it and it's already got past part of the "aging" process.

Parking With Go Daddy

A cool feature that Go Daddy offers is that they will "park" your domain with Google ads on them for a small fee. You can then actually make money from those Google ads which often times will actually pay for the domain registration anyway and will help you get the pages indexed without having to go through and make page for each of them.

Going Too Far

You may get a bit addicted with buying domains up. I don't recommend going too far with it unless perhaps you are trying to "farm domains" but that's a whole other subject and it's not something I do so I can't tell you about it. In my view you can go too far with buying up domains every time you have an idea. If you find yourself with far more domains in the "someday" stash then in the "currently working" stash then you may have gone too far with your domain buying.

Blue Host Web Hosting. This is cheap reliable shared web hosting. You can host as many domains as you want with just one account. You also get one free domain with your web hosting account.

Go Daddy Domain Registration. Go Daddy is the most well known domain registration company. They are affordable and trustworthy. I register almost all of my domains through them.

Getting the Right Website For Your Business - The Domain Name

By David Au Johnson

In this Internet defined age, it is becoming more and more vital for businesses small and large to have a presence on the Internet.

This can be achieved as simply as getting your business details listed in an online directory such as yell.com, however to put across a truly professional image it is worth seriously considering having a website designed for your business.

This series of articles will touch on some of the factors that will need to be considered when doing this. So what factors should be considered?

Choosing a Domain name

The domain name will form the address at which your website will be found. There are two schools of thought in place in relation to choosing a domain name - branded vs. generic - and pros to each approach.

A branded domain name will usually relate to your business/product identity, and therefore be a memorable way of getting your domain name in to the minds of your customers. This is particularly useful if you anticipate driving traffic to your website through more traditional forms of advertising such as television, newspaper or billboard advertising.

An example of a branded domain name would be www.nike.com. This is a domain name that is short, easily identifiable with the brand in question, and easy to remember. For people looking specifically for this brand, it is very easy to remember and then type in to their browser's address bar when they wish to visit the site.

However, the drawback about this domain name is that it does not readily identify what the subject of the website is about; this is where the benefits of a generic domain name become apparent.

Generic domain names relate to the actual product/service that your business is offering. As well as being useful in providing an indicator of the subject matter of your website to your human visitors, these domain names also have an edge in another important area - search engines.

Search engines are the method by which the majority of websites receive the majority of their traffic (or visitors), and the higher your website appears in search engine results the more traffic you will get. In order to be able to get your website in to the top few results for your product/service, you need to give the search engines a clear indication of what your website is about, and the domain name is one of the ways in which this can be emphasised.

To continue with our example above, instead of www.nike.com the domain name used might have been www.running-shoes.com. This gives a very clear indicator of the subject of the site, and means that there is an increased likelihood of this website showing up high in the search results for keywords related to "running shoes".

In reality, branding is usually viewed as too important a consideration to ignore completely, and therefore an approach that mixes elements of the two is best applied. If we were to offer advice to a young startup Nike Inc. then a domain name such as www.nike-sportswear.com would probably be appropriate. This retains branding indentity, but also enables search engines and human visitors alike to see what products are being offered.

A word on Top Level Domains (TLDs)

A TLD (or domain extension) is the final portion of a domain name: the .com, or .co.uk. There are a bewildering number of domain extensions available to choose from, but in our opinion the choice should always be simple.

If you are targetting a specific country, then use the TLD for that country. Something ending in .uk for the UK, .de for Germany, .fr for France etc. The UK is unusual in that it offers a number of options, .co.uk being the most common. In our opinion, unless you are a not-for-profit organisation (in which case use .org.uk) this is the extension you should always use. The other extensions (.ltd.uk, .net.uk) are too rarely seen to be of much use to you.

We would also recommend staying away from .uk.com - this isn't actually a true TLD. Instead it is some enterprising organisation who registered the domain name .uk.com a long time ago selling off sub-domain names of their domain name. You will find your options with regards transferring the domain name etc. restricted if you buy one of these, and probably pay a premium too because there is only one company selling these domains.

If you operate on a global platform, then .com is the domain name to use. Although you can register .info, .org, .net etc. these domains are again relatively unseen. If you do not use the .com and instead register mycompanyxyz.net, then there is the possibility of a domain squatter registering mycompanyxyz.com. You can guarantee that more people looking for your website are likely to type in .com than .net, and therefore you will lose customers.

Domain Name Registration - Vital Factors to Consider When Registering a Domain Name

6.23.2009

By Jeremy A Gislason

Domain name registration is an important part of your online business. In fact, it can be one of the most vital aspects of branding your business. A good domain name will make your site look professional before people even click on it whilst a bad domain name can drastically lessen the traffic you receive.

Because you must choose a domain before your site goes online, domain name registration needs to be carefully planned so that you do not regret your choice later. There are some important factors to consider when registering a domain including:

- The TLD or domain extension (.com, .net)
- The purpose of your website
- Any particular major keywords you are focusing on
- How long you will register the domain for
- Where you will register the domain
- If you will buy domain privacy

Let's take a look at the above factors in depth.

TLD

Ideally you will want to register a .com domain as your main domain. It can take many attempts to find an available .com domain so keep trying until you do. You may choose to add a dash into your domain. These are acceptable but it is not advisable to use more than one dash. If your site is going to be an authority site then consider also buying the .net, .org and .info domains too so competitors don't take them.

Website Purpose

If the purpose of your website is to act as a guide then using a word like "guide" in the domain is relevant. It is important to determine what your site is trying to achieve before the domain name registration. If you want your site to be brandable, then a made up word that is pronounceable is a good idea - that is what Google did!

Keywords

Most websites have one or two main keywords they wish to target. Incorporating these into your domain, where possible, may assist with search engine rankings.

Registration Length

It is a good idea to register a new domain for as long as possible. It is thought that Google looks favorably upon this and it eliminates the worry every year regarding paying for your registration.

Where To Register

There are many domain registrars, but there are only a few that you should consider registering at. You should ignore price when buying a .com domain because the difference between registrars is minimal.

What you should be looking for is a secure, reputable registrar. Some of the top domain registrars are Moniker, Name.com, Dynadot, Namecheap and GoDaddy. These registrars sell .com domains from $7.50 up to $10 per year.

Domain Privacy

Domain privacy prevents anyone accessing your data when they search for the owner of your domain name. People may search for domain owners through a WHOIS service. Depending on the purpose of your website, you may or may not want this data visible. Most registrars charge a yearly fee for WHOIS domain privacy.

Domain name registration is an exciting process, but also a very important time so make sure you choose the very best available domain name for your website.

Think Twice Before Choosing Your Domain Name

By Ricardo D Argence

If you have an online presence, especially if you run a business online, you need to think about your domain name and what it needs to do for you. Your domain name is the address that people type to get to your website, and it is completely unique to you.

Think of it as your own online brand; it is often the first thing that a person sees when they search for you, and frequently, there will be an element of it involved in every aspect of your online identity, from usernames to emails. There are plenty of things to keep in mind when it comes to choosing a name, but they are all fairly simple.

Ideally, your it should be short, simple and descriptive. If a person can tell what you do from the domain name itself, this is a sign that you are on the right track. Avoid using dashes as most people forget to put them in; you might even find that having a domain name with strange punctuation can even lead your prospective customers to your competitor!

Similarly, make sure that your DN reads well. Say it out loud and say it slowly. Listen for any corruptions of the words or any strange sounds. Although it will largely be written rather than spoken, make sure that it has a good sound to it.

Ideally, you'll ask some of your friends and see what they think. This is a great way to make sure that you don't get stuck with a domain name that becomes a joke! To see if a domain name is available, take a few steps. First, try typing it into your address bar, and if it doesn't show up, chances are that you might be able to get it.

There are a few sites that will perform more rigorous checks, but the webhosts that will sell you the domain name will often perform this check for you as well.

You'll find that you can purchase it for a very small amount of money from the webhost, and, depending on the service, you will also receive a large amount of webspace to work with.

Don't forget to renew your domain name. Most registrations for domain names only last for about a year and if you let this lapse, you might find that your webhost will sell it to the highest bidder.

There are companies that look for expired web domains with high hits that they can then direct to their site, so getting it sold out from under you might be likelier than you think! Keep your registration up to date and current!

People often miss the importance of having their own unique domain name for their web sites. It represents you, your company and your online presence; as does a business card.

If you don't have your own name you won't be able to promote your own online identity and web site on the World Wide Web. Turning Your Expired Domain Into a Profit Making Machine - Domain Parking Ideas

By John Bj Khu

It is so common to see a registrar's parking page cropping up in your browser window, when you type in a domain name to check what is on the site. In fact, it could be a sheer wastage of what is possibly a good expired domain name! Like you, thousands of others would have typed the same expired domain name on the browser window just to see what is inside! A typical expired domain does not have any system that can measure and track the actual number of site visitors. A typical expired domain displays no life in its present avatar. But, remember that it had an active life in its previous incarnation. Many people who were the regular visitors of that web site will still be looking for it even now. With these assured visitors to your expired domain, do you have a good mechanism that has the ability to bring you a sizable amount of income?

Domain parking is possibly the best known method of earning income with your expired domains. In fact, it is the first step for a novice expired domain trader to taste small income before he or she can stride forward to find ways of making more income with a range of expired domains. Domain parking is a cool and efficient tool that you can use to make your first income in the expired domain trading business.

Domain parking is an efficient profit making machine that exposes your expired domain to a number of income making opportunities. Domain parking is simple money making process that redirects your expired domain to any other pages of a live web site. Domain parking service providing firms provide you a basic web page that includes a number of advertising banners and logos. Basically, the allotted web page assigned to your expired domain acts as a repository of links and banners that represent a number of other web sites. When a visitor visits your parked page either by accident or with an intention, he or she will see a number of links on which they can link to navigate to their preferred web sites.

The income making system is just simple. For every productive click that your visitors make, the advertiser will pay a certain portion of income to the domain parking firm. As the legal owner of the expired domain, you will also gain in the form of a small share of income. Though this income is small in value, you can still make a large sum by parking your collection of expired domains with a number of parking firms.

Domain redirection is yet another good service that you can use your expired domain name to make online income. Now, most of the domain registration companies offer this service as a part of the cost of registration or as an additional service with a small fee. Some firms may offer this service free of charge to develop their own business interests. Domain redirection services are always tied up with an affiliate program. An affiliate program is a unique program when the service provider agrees to pay you a small fee for your referring assistance which leads customers to affiliate web sites. Commissions are payable in three different forms: pay-per-click, pay-per-sale, or pay-per-lead.

Buying and Selling Domains - How the Business of Names Can Help You Earn Profits

6.22.2009

By Mark Salter

Who would have thought that money could be made from names? With the advent of the Internet, industry regulars slowly realized the gold mine sitting literally under their fingertips in the form of domain names. These days, buying and selling domains has become a real business, with some highly sought-after names selling for five-digit figures. The domain name ClearDay.com, for example, reportedly sold for $60,000 while Mercury.com made a lot more -- $700,000. Think there's a market out there for your domain name? Here's how you, too, can make money from a name:

Find domains that you can sell later on.

Generally, people who buy or 'grab' domain names don't really have industry-specific monikers in mind. If you like jewelry, for example, you don't have to stick to buying domains such as PreciousGems4U.com or SparklingJewelries.net. You can pretty much pick any name that strikes your fancy and then buy it.

However, paying for names that won't sell later will considerably drill a hole in your pocket if you're not careful. You could buy dozens of names for a small fee but if you're not going to use them or can't sell them later, what's the point of grabbing them, right?

Do a search on domains that have a potential or those that have shown some sort of following in the past few months. Use the Alexa toolbar to find out which domains or sites are these. Look for names that have registered a minimum of 1,500 to 2,000 hits 30 to 60 days prior to your search. If you're willing to pay more, look for domains that have registered five-figure hits because that's an assurance that these domains already have a strong following. You can either sell the domains back to their former owners or have interested parties bid on them. Either way, you'll profit from your efforts.

Automatically bid on domains.

You can't always spend hours online searching for domains to buy. Try online grabbing systems that let you automatically bid on domains you're interested in. Sites such as Pool.com and Snapnames.com are just two of these sites. You'll pay them a fee if they successfully grab the name on your behalf.

Get your domain name listed.

Before you can sell your domain, you have to be registered. That's how you can be 'legally' recognized. Getting the name registered also bestows upon you the right to claim it and if you so wish, sell it later.

Registering a domain name may be done for a limited period of time, usually as short as 12 months to as long as 10 years. Beyond the chosen period, the registration expires and you can choose to renew it and continue to claim ownership over it. Or, you can choose not to; at which point the domain name will be made available to another buyer. This is where you can sell the domain.

Register a potentially valuable domain.

Many people scour popular shows and events to try to find out which personalities, events or gadgets are developing a following. If you've been watching shows such as American Idol, for example, and you check out sites that register domains, you'll find a few that are familiar. This is because some people will try to register a name of some rising star who will potentially become famous enough to want to build his own website someday. Since his name is already registered, he will want to buy it back and thus earn the investor a nice profit.

If you don't mind speculating, this may be a good route to take. Just remember, though that it can go either way in which the domain name gets sold or it gets ignored.

Build traffic to your domain.

If you want to take this route and build your domain from scratch, prepare to work. If you have a domain name that you created by yourself or bought, you need to make it valuable to potential investors. Offer high quality content, build a reputation, link up with quality sites, allow your visitors to interact using your website. Once you start appearing on major search engines' radar and gain a good following, you raise the value of your website and your domain. When the time is ripe, you can then sell that domain for a nice, fat profit.

How to Buy a Domain Name to Improve Your Online Business Game

By Fabian Tan

Your domain name is like your online ID. It's your identity, your work or portfolio, and your address all rolled into one. Your domain name should be easy to remember and something that would remind people of the nature of your work. Here are tips on how to buy a domain name:

Tip#1: Choose a unique domain name that relates to the core of your business, which can be a product, service or a concept. The more easily people are able to connect to your domain name and business; the better it will be for future growth. Keep it short and simple (KISS) to avoid confusion. Register your domain name as .com and not .biz or .net because most people associate .com with business.

Tip#2: Choose a domain name service registrar. There are lots of registrars available; you must choose the best one for your business.

Tip#3: Check for availability. Your chosen domain name may not be available and your chosen registrar will provide you with multiple options. You can go with the options or you can alternatively think of a new name.

Tip#4: Register and fill out all contact information required. It is important that you provide real information since they may need to contact you for verification.

Tip#5: Verify if the domain name is registered to you and not the registration service provider. There are cases where the registrar will register the name as their own and this can create problems in the future when you try to transfer your existing domain name to another service provider.

Why it is So Important to Choose the Correct Domain Name

By Ryan Matthews

Some of you reading this article might already be in the Affiliate and Internet Marketing Game for some time now, while others are only just starting and beginning to read up on the do's and do not's in and around this business. Well the guys in it for a couple of years or so should have bought and maintained multiple domains and sites by now... for the noobs this is probably something you are either looking into or trying to do at this very moment. The guys that have been industry for a while along with plenty of online help guides would be able to voice the importance of choosing the correct domain names.

Why is it so Important to choose the correct domain name:

- A good domain name will shed light on what the site is about to the visitor.

- A good domain name will help your site to rank better.

- A good domain name will provide your site a branding platform.

Now taking all of these variable into consideration, how do we actually know whether a domain name is good for your site, niche or market.

Take a look at the following:

- It will usually contain the main keyword that your site is targeting.

- It should be easy to pronounce

- It should be brandable, in that case easy to remember.

- It shouldn't be too long

- It shouldn't have any explicitness to it

So there are a couple of variable and general guidelines for you to go by. At the end of the day your domain name is pretty important, but once you bought it and set it up what then? The most important thing after your site is up and running is to load it with traffic, so how will you do that?

How to Buy Cheap Domain Names That Will Get a Lot of Web Traffic - Are Domain Auctions For You?

By Jonathan Souza

Having a hard time getting just the right domain name for your website?  Well you are not alone.  Since the drop in price of domain names it can be very difficult to find the domain name that fits your business.  No matter what your reason is for having a website, it is important to have a domain name that not only can be remembered but one that is also better for the searches people will be doing in search engines like Google.

Well you can look for what is available under dot.com names but I highly doubt you will find what you are looking for there.  Even many dot.net domain names are difficult to get.  So what is the better solution.

Give domain auctions a shot.  Even in the late 90's business investors were gobbling up domain names so that they could sell them for more.  Well, lately even the casual online venture capitalist has purchased domain names merely so they can sell them.  This may not be for everyone, but if you are looking for a great domain name, you can try bidding on one at a domain auction website.

So why is this a great idea?  Why not just pick up some cheap dot.info domain name?

There are several reasons.  For one, .info names can be targeted by search engines like Google as spam sites and can easily be de-indexed and no longer appear when people search for them.  This can pretty much cripple your business if it depends heavily on volumes of traffic.  Also, it's a great idea because not only will you be buying a shorter name with .com at the end, and one that is easy to remember, but you will be buying a domain name that possibly has been around for a while.  Why is this important.  Websites that have been around for a while usually rank higher in Google.  There are some that will be a domain name on an auction and then find that right off the bat they are getting loads of traffic, simply because it has been in the database for so long.

There are many kinds of domain names you can bid on in an auction.  You can buy .com, .net, .biz, .ca, .us and many more.  The cost of these domain names can range from a few dollars to a few thousand dollars, depending on the popularity of that word or term in the search engines.  You see, say the domain name you bid on is "buywidgets".com  If a lot of people are searching for the term "buy widgets" in Google than you are going to get a lot of traffic from those searches on your website because they regard your domain name as high importance.  A great domain name can make or break your business so choose wisely.  I would even suggest looking on a domain auction site before naming your business because you might get some great ideas for a domain name or even build your entire business around this perfect domain name that you found online.

Bid wisely and enjoy that perfect domain name that you can take pride in actually winning.  Remember, you can bid on domain names at Buydomainauctions.com.

Choosing and Registering Your Website Domain Name

6.21.2009

By Dr Ian Smith

You need to carefully consider how your domain name will affect your future search engine rankings and user friendliness. It is very important to know exactly what your website is going to do for you.

Should your domain name be your company name?

It is usually a good idea to go for a for a domain name that represents the type of product or industry you operate in. If your company is Jones & Smith Ltd and you are accountants you then have the choice of "jones-and-smith.co.uk", or "expert-accountants.co.uk" . How do you choose an effective name? This is a name that is going to be connected with your business forever so it is important to make sure you are 100% happy with your choice. The older a website, the more credibility it has within the search engines, so you cannot afford to come back later and change it!

A domain name should be relevant and easy to remember. It should reflect the keywords of the industry it operates in. A sensible and pertinent choice, like "expert-accountants.co.uk" is great. There is a balance, in fact it has been suggested that Google prefer two-word domains, and we would certainly not recommend more than three. If your business only covers a certain geographic area, it might be useful to include that in your name - instead of "best-plumber.co.uk", your domain could be "best-plumber-dorset.co.uk". This would greatly improve your rankings within your local area. but do think carefully about future expansion.

Should those keywords be hyphenated or not?

It is important where a string could become tricky to spell (i.e: "yellow-widgets.co.uk" is easier than "yellowwidgets.co.uk"). Also, be careful that you choose words that are easy and unambiguous to spell and understand - optimization/optimisation; program/programme - your searchers have a 50% chance of getting it wrong!

Which domain extension is right for you - .co.uk .com .net ?

This can be a bit confusing, as there are more and more extensions appearing all the time. Partly you are limited to what is available, and it's not a bad idea to have a look at who owns the others, then you need to consider carefully if your business focus is a certain geographic area. A website ending in .co.uk is seen by Google to be based in the UK. It will therefore feature more strongly in searches in the UK. A .com extension is viewed as international and will not feature as highly in a UK wide search. The .co.uk extension is no longer the only way of being recognized as a UK website, .uk.com is an alternate domain for the United Kingdom, and extensions such as .org.uk and .me.uk could also be used. Have a look at what's available to you.

Also, bear in mind that the physical location of your hosting company will impact on this. If your hosting company is based in Germany, your website (and therefore your business!) may well be seen as being based in Germany, particularly if you use a .com extension.

Should you try and buy all the extensions for your domain?

If you can afford it, why not, simply to prevent anyone else from buying them - but be careful, you could end up owning a lot of unnecessary websites. A lot of UK companies try to buy both the .com and the .co.uk. If your site is well designed and well optimized, it will attract visitors regardless of other similarly named sites!

How do you register your website domain name?

Your hosting company should be able to register your domain name for you, and it is probably best to keep it all together if you can. Domains are registered for either one or two years (usually two), and then need to be renewed. Your hosting and registration company should remind you when your domain is due for renewal, but you can always check yourself by using http://www.whois-search.com/whois/.

Always check that you will own the domain name, as some domain registrars will insist on having control over the domains they register. Registration can take up to a couple of day before your site appears online. Your site will be "parked" until a web server has hosted it, and will then appear with a "site under construction" page until you have created a website with content.

Have you considered your future business plans?

Although your domain name should reflect the keywords most relevant to you, be careful that you have left yourself scope to expand your business. You may have a site called "website-hosting.co.uk". Great - except the internet opens up and you want to add website advertising packages. Then you expand and you want to sell website design. Suddenly, your domain name is inappropriate and does not reflect your full range of services. Maybe "internet-marketing.co.uk" would have been a better idea in the first place. This is also relevant if you include a town or county in your name and then decide to move or expand to other towns or counties.

Is it easier to buy an existing expired domain name?

There are two possible reasons you may want to do this:

The domain name you want is already registered but is available for sale - be sure you are paying a fair price and that you are buying it outright

You are impatient and want a website that already has a page rank. This used to be a "back-door" to quicker page ranking, but Google have become wise to it, and any page rank or search engine "goodwill" that you think you are buying will be lost as soon as the name is purchased. If you do buy an existing domain, try to change as few details as possible i.e: keep the same hosting company, domain registrar etc. thus appearing as part of a total business transfer and not just a domain sale.

Remember, no-one has yet got rich registering and selling domain names. The value prescribed to a domain rests largely with the content .

Summary.

A website is a vital marketing tool for all businesses! Choosing a domain name for your website is just the first of many equally important decisions you will need to make before your website becomes a reality. It is not easy trying to reflect everything your business does in two or three words, but it is worth it. The value of this step will make other decisions further along the line so much easier and clearer.

A Beginning Guide to Internet Domain Registration

By Al Zan

There are many good reasons to register an internet domain, and it is easy to do! One benefit of having your own internet domain is the professional touch it gives to your business. You can both send email from your domain site and link it to your personal email account if you have one. Having email come straight from the domain name of your business or organization shows the customer that you are a real person who represents the product or information, and that you are available for contact in case of queries.

Another benefit of internet domain registration is that you can upload pictures, and blog about whatever your platform involves. Potential customers must know what you do, who you are, and what your prices are. All of this information can be featured on your site, as well as the contact information earlier discussed. If you choose, it is even possible to sell your product directly through the site. In this case, uploading pictures can be very helpful so that customers can see your products.

Time frames are one aspect of internet domain registration that can be very appealing. Picking and registering a domain name does not mean that your site must be ready for use immediately. You can take your time choosing a name, and once you have registered you could brainstorm or hire a graphic designer to perfect the site before it is in use. It is important to focus on what name you would like for your site, depending on the goods and services offered to potential customers and readers.

You are probably excited to get started registering your own domain. How do you register? It is quite simple to register a domain. By doing a web search, you will first need to find a site that does internet domain registration. Then, you will need to type your desired domain name into their site, choosing something that represents your company well and is easy to remember.

If you please, you can first check the availability of your desired domain name to make sure it has not been used by another person or company. In order to obtain the name you want, you can often use suffixes such as .net or .biz if it is registered as a .com with someone else. To direct users to your business as often as possible, it is a good idea to register with more than one suffix for your domain name. It is as simple as that to register an internet domain. Now you can promote your business, organization or just use the domain for personal use. Happy domain hunting!

How to Set Up a Domain Name - Information For the Novice

By Meg Stewart

Setting up a domain name is really a must if you want to sell affiliate products in a professional way. It will look better when promoting on classifieds, forums, blogs and articles.

You can mask the affiliate address behind the domain name so the potential customer thinks they are on your own website. A lot of people who see an affiliate address will not even look at it. They know straight away you are not promoting your own product.

A domain name will not cost you more than a few dollars a year to set up. It is well worth the expense. Set up a different name for each product you are promoting. Only start with 2 or 3 products and names. Then if these products sell well you can set up a couple more. If the first product stops selling use the domain name to another product.

So how do you get a domain name and how do you set it up?

1 Finding a domain name is easy. There are lots of sites on the search engines. When you have found a site that you like the look of set up a search for a domain name that suit's the item you are promoting. For example, if you are selling something about health try to find a name that includes the word health. The site will come up with a few alternatives that are available.

2 Setting up the domain name and hiding the affiliate address.

This is quite easy once you have bought the domain name. Login to your account. You will see a sign that says Domain Forwarding Manager. Click on that and then on to the Forwarding Enable button. This will bring up a bit where you can type in your affiliate address.

You will then see a bit for masking address. Type in the new domain name address. Then you click on the OK or submit button. You should see a message telling you that the forwarding is complete.

You will have to wait about 15-30 minutes and then you can type your domain name into the search engines. You should come onto your affiliate website. You just repeat this for every product you want to sell.

Now you have your affiliate product addresses hidden behind domain names you can promote them using classifieds, blogs, forums and articles. You will look more professional and efficient while you do it.

See, it was quite easy and not too frightening.

My name is Meg Stewart. I have not be working on the internet for long. Domain Names - How to Register & Secure Cheap Domain Names

6.20.2009

By Mark Bellinger

Securing Cheap Domains Doesn't Mean Cheap & Nasty

A "Cheap Domain" does not necessarily mean a bad domain or something to be avoided.

Therefore you do not necessarily have to pay more to have a good domain name - so it therefore follows that it would be wise to spend as little as possible on your domain names, right?

That's right but the one big thing to consider when buying "cheap" domains is the domain name registrar. This is where it can get ugly because if you buy from a cheap and nasty registrar your domains may not be transferable or easy to manage.

Registrars are authorized by the internet governing body so you need to make sure that the company you are registering a domain name with meets this qualification.

Choosing an Appropriate Name

You can bet that the best name for your business has probably been taken. Well don't despair as it is still possible to register domain names that are both memorable and appropriate as there are still many domain name options and combinations available with various extensions which provides you more flexibility when it comes to choosing your domain name.

It is therefore important to consider the following when choosing your domain name...

Your Domain Name is an Investment

Domain names, like real estate, appreciate in value with time and as a domain name ages not only does it become more valuable, it also gains more credibility & integrity with the search engines which is a very important part of the domain's value. Considering the above it is therefore important to secure as many appropriate domains as possible as without delay - time adds value don't forget.

So what if your preferred name has already been snapped up?

So getting back to the likely prospect that your chosen domain name has been taken.

Well you might not have to settle for second best...

The most popular top level domain (TLD) is the dotcom extension for businesses, but there are some good alternatives such as .net .org .biz which are good choices for the appropriate type of business, eg. an IT company should have a .net extension & a non-profit ro government organization should have a .org extension.

Also a country specific domain name (like .de, .nu, .sg, .uk, etc.) might be even more appropriate for your business than a dot com name - so do not neglect this option as you are more likely to be able to secure the name that you really want. However, if you're stuck on the dot com TLD you can always consider adding a search engine friendly term to the name to secure your preferred name.

For instance if your preferred name is hosting you could choose hosting-tips or hosting-usa or hosting123 etc..

Once Your Domain is Registered?

Once your domain is registered ensure that your domain record remains locked which protects your domain in terms of its security and prevents it from being able to be transferred to some unscrupulous webmaster.

Finally remember domains are not only cheap but an investment in the future - so grab as many as you can.

Important Internet Domain Registration Facts That You Must Know

By Al Zan

Many are asking what the importance of internet domain registration is to every business. As a matter of fact, many home businesses do not buy a domain name and simply go ahead with promoting their business Actually, you should have your domain name registration for several good reasons. First of all, your professionalism will be shown through your name. By having for instance, http://www.yourownname.com versus your http://www.yourownname/etc, your clients or customers will automatically know that you are legitimate and an established business. This is because, for legitimate internet businesses, an internet domain registration is required to fully participate in internet activities. Business owners must provide information about themselves in their internet domain registration, before they can get registered. To a certain degree, this information provides legitimacy to the business and the person owning the business.

Brand name or brand recall is the second important thing that you should consider. Do you know that brand recall is one of the most important thing advertisers consider when doing ads?ฆDo you realize that for advertiser, brand recall is one of the most important thing to consider when doing ads? With your own name being the first thing your client will look for, you must make sure that they will have no problem getting to you. With your own internet domain registration, this is not a problem but if you will have one of those free web sites, there is no chance that your client will even remember the name of your site. So what is the point of doing all those advertising when they cannot even remember you? And even from the start, you have to consider that you do not have control of your site unless you have your internet domain registration. With your own internet domain registration, other website owners will be willing to put you on their own site. Now, from other business links you can now redirect the traffic to your site.

When it comes to the whole process of internet domain registration, it is really very easy. The first thing is you have to choose the name that will aptly represent your business or company. You can have as long as 63 characters but the success of the name is dependent not on the length but on how good the name is generally. The second step is choosing a good registrar. After you have decided on a good registrar, you will then register by entering into registration contract with them and by giving them information about yourself. Generally, you are given monthly renewal option for ten years for your internet domain registration. The prices offered by registrars are varied and you can choose what is best for your company. After paying, you can already see your own name after about 24 hours.

1 Way to Use .ME For Your Internet Marketing Success

I just read an article about the new .ME domains. You know, the one's that GoDaddy has now recorded in history, as it's best domain name release ever. Of course, that really does make sense given how creative people can get with this particular domain extension.

Instead of make.edu you have make.me

Instead of help.biz you have help.me

.ME domains just flow so much better and can be used to brand creative and catchy domain names.

BUTTTTTT...

And this is a big but.

Have you considered how working these with backlinks can and/or will supercharge your Internet Marketing business? Take for example the concept of working a blog together with your website. As long as they are a good fit for each other, it's a given that the search engines value websites that have relevant blogs far more than those that don't.

So now it's time for .ME to take it to the next level. No, I'm not going to suggest that you start from scratch on building a brand new website and linking the two together. You've already spent valuable time building your website and working your blog. Why not let your website audience create your .ME website themselves?

How?

Forums!

Simply put, you build your forum from a .ME extension and link it together with your .com website as well as your blog. Now when you make comments on blogs you reference your .com website as your commenting website while putting a blurb on your .ME forum about this particular article for which you have made a comment.

The author of the post receives a backlink from your forum.

You receive a backlink to your main bread and butter website.

Therefore, like I said in the beginning. This is one way to use .ME for your Internet Marketing success.

Domain Flipping can bring you high ROI (Return on Investment). You can get domain names from less than $7, and sell them for anything from $100 to 1,000's. However in order to do this you should try do as much research as you can on domain flipping. Once you put in the work, it will be all worth it at the end.

Selling Domain Names - 4 Profitable Steps to Selling Your Domain Names For Profit

6.19.2009

By Fabian Tan

Selling domain names can be a profitable venture if you have some you no longer need but you'll need to understand the process before getting started. Below are the step by step instructions you can follow for selling domain names.

1. Set a value for your domain name

Before you can begin selling domain names, you need to know their value. Keep in mind that most domains are not all that valuable. You probably won't get as much for them as you hoped. There are valuation calculators available on the Internet that can help put a dollar price on the domain but remember that there is a lot of supply so you might not command top dollar.

2. Decide whether to sell it yourself or go through a service

Generally, you will have the choice of selling domain names yourself or going through an agency. There are benefits to both but if you're new to the field you'd be better off trusting an agency. Just do your research before making a commitment to one.

3. Decide how to market the site

To sell the site, you might want to do a little marketing. You could set up a basic web site or actually work on driving traffic to the site. Remember that a domain name with an existing stream of traffic can command a much bigger price tag.

4. Close the deal

If you choose to go through an agency, they will have a set process in place for handling the financial portion of the arrangement. Follow their instructions to the letter to protect you.

Buying Profitable Expired Domain Names - Part I

By John Khu

If you are a newbie to the world of expired domain names, buying a good domain name is not as simple as it looks or feels. If you succeed in buying a good expired domain name, your buyers will find it an attractive option to purchase it even at a very good price. On the other hand, if you make a bad purchase, you may never be able to sell it to anyone even at very low prices. Buying expired domain names needs a lot of skills and practical knowledge. Before buying a set of domain names that are expiring soon, you may wish learn the basic tricks of locating a good name. This article provides you some of the most common problems associated with buying an expired domain name and how you can take right decisions at the right time.

Everyone keeps taking continuously about domain name extensions and their possible benefits and demerits. Almost every other country now sells domains with its own extensions. As an expired domain trader, you have a range of choices and options while buying a domain name. However, the current preference and flavor is still the dot com extensions, as most of the internet surfers have a habit of typing .com name, even though they are not sure of the actual domain name. Strangely, people never remember any other extensions, other than a name with dot com extension.

It is a blessing in disguise for most expired domain name traders as web surfers automatically type in.com most of the time. Next to a dot com web domain name, web surfers remember .net and .org extensions. If you are not successful in buying a dot com name, you can choose a good .net expired domain name. If you are running a non profit, you can go ahead and buy a dot org name. However, you can stay clear of this name as the current demand for an expired dot org name is very low.

Of late, two other extensions, dot biz and dot info expired domain names are available for purchase with a number of expired domain traders. Several leading businesses and organizations prefer dot biz and dot info names to carry out their business activities. Another advantage with these names is that you can easily brand them by developing a theme based web portal.

There are several other international expired domain name extensions like dot ws, dot fm, dot tv and others. You may find several domain name traders trying to promote these names with glossy and shining campaigns. It is preferable to stay away from these domains, as they are actually worthless and waste of your time. Country specific domain names are also available for you to purchase. Most of the countries of the world have their specific domain name extensions and a number of them are expiring almost everyday. However, most of these names could be too restrictive to be of any real commercial value. You may also need to be the bona fide citizens of some countries to be able to buy country specific domain names.

Tips on Choosing a Domain Name

By Terri Polk

So your business is up and running, your website has been designed, and the time has come to choose a domain name for your site. Some people consider this step a non-issue, and give very little thought to it, choosing the first thing that pops into their head. Don't fall into this trap; choosing a good domain name for your website is very important, and could mean the difference between success and failure of your site. Luckily, there are some fairly simple guidelines that can help you choose a powerful, effective domain name.

K.I.S.S.

As in, Keep it Simple Sweet. A long, clumsy domain name is a recipe for disaster. Website optimization experts agree that in a perfect world, all domain names would be around 10 characters long. In reality though, that's not always possible, but without a doubt 20 characters should be the absolute limit for a domain name.

Make it Memorable

The best domain names are ones that people can easily remember. Say your business is called "Cathy's Cookies". Don't choose a complex name like "thebakingqueen" or "bestcookiesever". People won't remember those obscure phrases and are likely to give up trying if they can't easily find your site.

Also, besides being memorable, your domain name should somehow be related to what your website is about. That way, when people see your domain name they have a good idea what kind of site they will be visiting.

So, using the Cathy's Cookies example, a good domain name might be, simply, cathyscookies, or cathscookies, to shorten it.

Extensions are Important Too

When deciding which extension to use on your website, ".com" is usually the first choice. Most people automatically assume the ".com" extension, and using another one could lead people to miss your website. However, when the ".com" extension is not an option, ".net" is a good second best.

Other extensions such as ".org" and ".info" are usually used for specific types of business and may be confusing if you use them out of context.

So don't choose an obscure extension because you think it sounds catchy or different. In this case, go with the familiar and you won't regret it.

No Fancy Spellings

It may seem obvious, but some websites have domain names with notoriously misspelled words, which could equate to lost traffic and, in the case of a business, lost customers. Stick to the right spelling so it is easiest for people to remember it.

Lose the Symbols

Finally, when choosing a domain name, it's a good idea to stick to letters only, and avoid using numbers or symbols if at all possible. Symbols such as hyphens and dashes are awkward and difficult to remember, and could ruin an otherwise great domain name by causing people to not be able to find your website.

What's in a Domain Name? Your Business Success

6.06.2009

By Erik Gifford

A good domain name is imperative to creating a successful network marketing website. Your domain name serves a variety of purposes and gives visitors an indication of your website's theme. A good domain name will make your website grow by drawing in interest from the web.

There are several methods of choosing the right domain name for your business website. What sounds good to you? What is the most appropriate name for your business based upon personal preferences? Make note of these names and save them for reference, but don't purchase a domain yet.

The next step is to ascertain how the domain name will reflect on your network marketing business. There are many services online that research keywords for you. They can show you the most relevant keywords for your network marketing business. These keyword services can help you decide on the appropriate content, what words to use and possibly even a domain name.

Purchasing a domain is an easy process. The best way is to evaluate a number of domain name registration companies. These online entities are known as "registrars." You can begin narrowing your selection once you locate a number of suitable registrar companies.

Does the registrar accept a variety of payment methods? This is very important, as your registrar should be eager to work with you. They should be focused on catering to the needs of the customer. If you find a registrar that is a "credit card only" company, then avoid them. These companies are notorious for being somewhat lazy and providing poor customer service. If they aren't willing to work with you when you are giving them money, then you can imagine what it will be like should you need technical support.

You also should do general research on each company to ensure there aren't any complaints against them. Has anyone reported an experience with them? Were their reports positive? Is there any indication that the company does not provide adequate service? You also can check with the Better Business Bureau, but keep in mind that companies aren't required to list themselves with the BBB. An absence of a listing doesn't mean they are not legitimate. It simply means they aren't listed.

You will purchase a domain name for your network marketing business in the same way you would any other product. Your purchase will be good for one year; you will be able to repurchase your domain annually. The domain price should never be more than $15. You should remember that you get what you pay for and a very low price may indicate a very small registrar. Your ideal price range should be between $10 and $15.

Domain redirection is a simple process that can have great results. This is the act of purchasing extra domains and having all traffic going to those redirected to your primary home page. There are many methods for redirecting traffic from a domain to your website. DNS redirection employs the use of IP addresses and independent servers. If your domain names have a unique server, DNS redirection should be adequate and simple. This method of redirection is usually free.

Inline redirection involves linking a URL address with a file in a different server. This may involve a small annual fee. This provides a link on the spare domain's landing page that visitors can click to continue on to your main website.

Domain forwarding is most often offered at no cost to domain owners. This is an automated process where all traffic to the spare domain is automatically forwarded to your primary domain.

Finding the right domain name is easy with all the options available to webmasters today. Keyword research and free advice is available across the Internet to accommodate your needs. You can have a domain name that helps build a successful network marketing business with a few clicks of the mouse and a few hours of research.

By John Khu

Expired domain traffic is the current flavor and a favorite buzzword for almost every other domain trader. Domain - Creating a New, Modern, Boundary Less World of Computer Networking

By Smit Mathur

Domain names are basically the identity of a website in the virtual world of the internet. It is similar to the names given to each one of us, for identification. The only difference is that two human beings may have the same name, but two websites can never have the same domain names. The domain names are used in various ways, for identification, reference, uniform resource locators and they also appear after the '@' sign in an e-mail address.

The naming of a domain is done through the DNS methodology. The DNS confers a unique name to a domain after the customary domain registration. The process of domain registration is done through the registrars. These registrars have the authorisation and accreditation of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). The ICANN is responsible for overseeing the process of the distribution of domain names and numbers for the internet.

Domain registration is done generally for a specific period of time. Generally the period of domain registration varies between one to ten years. The period of domain registration can be extended at any point of time before the end of the grace period.

The domain name registration system is an international process involving all the countries of the world. Once the domain is registered under the domain name registration system, the name cannot be altered. Although, a party can sell their domain to another, but again the second party has to get the domain registered under its name in the domain name registration system.

In the past few years, the whole process of domain name registration has been made simpler. Due to this simplification, we see many new domain spaces being bought and sold in the world market and this domain name registration has become a big business. Many individuals as well as big and small companies are coming forward to get their own domain space and to reach out to the world by developing their own websites.

Benefits of Yahoo Domain Registration

6.05.2009

By Alex Johnson

If you're like many business owners, you want to get a web presence, but aren't entirely sure how the whole process works.

The first step is to find and register a domain name for your business. You may use Yahoo every day to search the Web, and fortunately, they've also made domain registration very simple. Yahoo Domains is popular among website owners all over the world because of the Internet giant's reliability and cost effectiveness. Yahoo also offers private registration, which allows you to hide your personal information from spammers and other malicious Web users who mine the domain registration (WHOIS) database for personal information.

When you register a domain name with Yahoo Domains, they also provide services to guide you through the process of building a standard website or an e-commerce site.

For important sites you don't want to leave to chance, Yahoo domain registration includes security measures to help prevent domain hijacking and other forms of abuse. You can also be assured that your private information will not be shared with third parties or individuals wanting to buy your registered domain name.

The domain name you choose is critical. It should be concise, memorable, and represent your business well. Unfortunately, many domain names are already registered by other site owners. In cases like this, Yahoo's domain registration process assists you in selecting an appropriate domain name for your site or business by suggesting available domain names based on slight variations of your initial request.

Beginning Domains and Hosting

By Robin Vandeventer

This is a beginning tutorial of how domains and web hosting work.

The purpose of a domain name (example.com) is to make it easier for us as humans to remember a site by name instead of it's IP address. The IP address (Internet Protocol) is a long unique number (ie. 123.123.123.123) that is the network address for the web server that holds your domain name. The IP address is the real address of the website. The web server translates the IP address into a domain name. Kind of like a telephone number. The phone number is unique. The domain name is memorable and easy to spell, instead of trying to remember a very long IP address for every site you want to visit.. The domain name keeps the really technical stuff invisible to viewers.

With a domain you need a hosting account. A hosting account hosts your domain name. It's like your home, it's where you place your webpages and monitor them. The hosting company rents you a spot on their internet and server, just like your C drive is your home for all your local computer files.

There are a couple of ways of obtaining a hosting account. You can have a blog account, which means one of the blog sites supply the hosting account. You have to sign up and create a page, in turn they reserve a place for you on their site. However, this is not a true hosting account as you can not create various pages. These are free but some have plenty of advertisements that you can't control.

When selecting a hosting company you want a company that is well known, reasonably priced and 99.9% uptime (meaning the site does not have too many technical problems). You also want them to have numerous email accounts, web tools, templates and large disk space for marketing. Most of all you want them to have 24/7 personal customer service.

In order to control your own internet marketing you must have a network presence that you control. You need a hosting company and a webpage built from the domain you have created.

How to Get Started in Domaining - A Newbie's Guide

By T. C Mutch

Domaining is the business of buying, selling, developing and monetizing Internet domain names not for primary use as a website, but with the goal of profit generation with the intent of resale, like real estate. Domaining continues to grow as more and more people are aware of what a Domain Name is and the uses associated with a domain Domaining is very similar to buying property in the real world, be that buy-to-let, property development or even buying somewhere to live. The individuals who partake in domaining are referred to as domainers.

Domainers

Domainers are the people who buy and sell domain names for profit. Domainers generate revenue via domain parking as well as through the resale of domain names and by developing domain names into fully functioning websites. Legal domainers avoid domain names that infringe on intellectual property and they avoid typosquatting domain names that are similar to intellectual property.

Domains

Domains are one of those rare commodities that run out. Domains are registered to purchase and can potentially be sold for millions. There are still good domains available right now. Speculators purchase keyword domains with a view towards reselling those properties at a considerable profit, or to get revenue by "parking" the domains with minimal content and lots of ads.

Buying and Selling

Buying and selling domain names is highly speculative. No matter what buying strategy you decide to follow, the first step to getting into domaining is acquiring enough capital to play in the market. Most domainers sell their domains through public web markets which usually charge a posting fee or commission upon completion of a successful sale. The selling method brings in more immediate revenue than the parking method. The website Sedo is a domain marketplace specialist, where you can buy, sell, park and auction domain names and websites.

Parking

Domainers also generate revenue through domain parking additional to reselling domain names To park a domain a domain owner forwards the Domain DNS ( Domain Name Servers) to a parking company. A domain parking service will provide traffic statistics for the site's owner. To be a successful domainer you are mostly likely going to want to use a healthy mix of both selling and parking.

Conclusion

Domaining is alive and great fun. Now that the mainstream press knows there are riches being made, this will only feed the fire. If you want to get involved in Domaining, start slow and small, do your research before buying and above all, have fun.

Finding Good Expired Domain Names by Using Google Search Engine

By John Khu

Many newbie expired domain traders find it very hard to find an expired domain name of their choice. Due to their inexperience as well as lack of knowledge or skills in expired domain trading, they always end up in buying expired domains with relatively no commercial value. If you are interested in finding a good expired domain name, then you may wish to learn some basic secrets and tips related to the expired domain name trading business. Google is a well-known search engine that provides very good search results in matter of few seconds. Google is also a rich repository of web domains, both live and expired; if you know how to use this amazing utility, you can easily find a good and commercially available expired domain, capable of spinning more money than you wished for.

With the right type of knowledge, it should not be too difficult for you to find and detect very good expired domain names by using Google search engine. All you have to do is to use right type of keywords and search methods to create a list of expired domain names! Google houses more than 50 millions of web domains and most of these domains are alive, while a considerable numbers are dead and expired. If you know how Google spiders work in segregating the search results, you can easily cull out excellent expired domain names as well.

Most of the major search engines including Yahoo, Live, Google, Ask and host of others employ a method that seeks to weed out or eradicate those domains that are no longer alive, or those that are already expired and dead. However, hundreds of thousands of web domains expire everyday and these numbers seem to be too huge for any search engines to remove from the list. Thus, there is always a time lag of a week or so, before the expired domain names are removed from the directories.

However, there is still a gap of about five to six days before the entire list of expired domains disappear from the directory listings. Smart expired domain traders make it a point to buy expired domains, before they are deleted or removed from the search engine list. Once you buy listed expired domains and register them as soon as possible, you can have the liberty of accumulating very precious traffic and links owned and possessed by the previous owner.

However, you can conduct a search on the Google search engine by using a simple search query given as follows:

a) Just open the Google search engine bar
b) Type- "Auction Date" 01-07-2008 intitle: aaaaaaaaa site: whois.domaintools dotcom (here, aaaaa is the preferred keyword, while the date could be any date that you wish but it should preferably be about 15 days before today's date.
c) Choose any keyword you want and consult a keyword tracker web domain for better keywords.
d) Once you give a command for search, you can easily get a comprehensive list of expiring or expired domain names in the entire search engine directory.

Once you create list, you can sensitize it by using good domain software for short listing the best possible domain names. The list thus generated should provide you a basic idea of how your expired domain names look and appear.

How to Choose Web Domain Names

6.04.2009

By Kemal Akhtar

A domain name is also known as URL. The term URL also pronounced as "earl" stands for uniform resource identifier, the identifier for each website. There is an old expression from real estate business! A real property is valuable because of "location, location, location." On the Internet, it is URL, a piece of real estate on the World Wide Web. Your first two steps are to name and then purchase, the URL for your new Affiliate Website. When selecting your domain name, selecting the correct one is vital. You must choose the best Domain Name. You will find an address for your affiliate marketing website that fits the idea and can easily be remembered and typed. Finding a correct domain name is decisive to your business , and your life will be simpler if you make a good choice from the beginning.

Finding Web Domain Names: When selecting your web domain names, selecting the correct one is vital. Keep in mind that you are going to secure your own valuable piece of Internet real estate, so select a domain name wisely. Many different extensions like ".com", ".org", ".net", and the country extensions such as ".us (United States)", ".ca (Canada)", ".uk (United Kingdom)", and others are available on the internet. Among the newest extensions available are ".ws" and ".name". The ".org" extension is usually used by nonprofit organizations, and ".gov" is reserved for government-related websites in the United States.

Although ".com" extensions are the most common today, so many ".com" names have now been claimed that new website owners are expanding their horizons. For example, I myself have reserved web domain names with ".ws" extension i.e. www.workfromhomeinternational.ws The advantage of ".ws" extension is that you can find a domain name that is otherwise unavailable with ".com" extension. And the best part is that you earn residual income for holding a domain name with a ".ws" extension. So, why only your website should make money for you? Why not domain name too! Check out how you too, like thousand others, can earn money for holding a domain name by following above link.

Choosing the Best Domain Name: O.K., your next step is a crucial one. You have to choose the best Domain Name. You will find an online address for your affiliate marketing website that fits the idea and can easily be remembered and typed. You need a great domain name. People often skip this step out of haste or frustration. While choosing between different web domain names your best bet is to choose the one that includes one of your most profitable keywords for higher relevancy. The engines will rank your site higher for your keyword if it's included in your domain name. Considering this most important criterion, don't settle for a domain name with outsized disadvantages. Select web domain names that are easily pronounceable, spellable and memorable. Yes, your web domain name should have all above characteristics.

Once you have chosen your website name, the next step is to purchase your URL. There are a number of companies selling URLs, but I would not advise you to buy and host your URL from two different places. You should buy and host URL from the same company as it is much convenient and cost efficient. Depending on the subject matter of your new business, you can try brilliant name after clever name, only to discover that someone has already reserved them. If your ideal domain name is not available with ".com" extension, go check with ".ws" extension. You may still be in luck and find your most ideal domain name with ".ws" extension.

If you cannot come up with the right domain name, you may want to try domain name generator at Doster.com. With nearly three million domains, Dotster, Inc. is one of the world's largest ICANN-accredited domain name registrars. Launched in 2000, Dotster was among the first to offer discounted pricing.

How to Flip Domains - 4 Ways to Make Money Fast on the Internet

By Mike Furlong

Flipping domains can be a lucrative business. But what does a domain flipper do to make money?
As in many types of business, there are various models or techniques for domain flipping.
Learn how to flip domains and reap the profits.

1. Register a new domain

Registering a new domain name is simple and relatively inexpensive. I wish I had registered "cars" or "trucks" or "computers" or other fundamental product names years ago. I could auction off those names for large sums now. But I suspect every single-word domain name in the dictionary is owned already. Still, people frequently come up with new unique combinations of two and three-word domain names, and you can too. If the name has value to someone, then you can sell it by auction or via a broker. But there is another alternative for new domain names. Who would have thought that "twitter" or "squidoo" would become a popular domain name? If you are creative with names, maybe you can make up the next "digg" or "reddit".

2. Buy expired domain names

Domain names expire every day. And many of the search engines value older websites over new ones. The websites may already have links which the search engines also use in ranking. Finally, the website may also have traffic -- another desirable item in website valuation. So if you pick up an expired domain and find the right buyer, you can pocket the profit.

3. Buy an established website domain name

Many websites can be purchased for a reasonable price. Their owners may tire of running a website, or be dissatisfied with the amount of money they are making. This may be because they lack the time, marketing skills, or web development skills to exploit the website. If you have these skills (or you can hire them at the right price), then you can bump up the revenue and keep the website, or sell it based on its new value due to the increased income.

4. Use parked domains to generate revenue

Maybe you have parked some domains while you work on developing a website (or can also buy parked domains from others). However parked domains may show up in search engine results if the domain names have relevance to the search. Many domain name registrars and other websites provide domain name parking services that will put advertising (e.g. Google adsense) on your parked website's page. The companies will charge you a fee for parking or share in the ad revenue (or both). You do not have go this route. You can take your parked domains and put your own ads on the pages and keep all the money.

Profit From Domain Parking

6.03.2009

By Robertas Jackus

In the beginning of 2008 year I read a book! I got it from my wife as a Christmas present, but I started reading only few weeks later. It was very good book - Bodo Schafer's "The Road to Financial Freedom".

It was like a light at the end of tunnel :) I started looking for ways how to generate passive income. I attended rapid reading courses, tried to work on self training to get to higher level. All my effort's took my minds to this mind:

I want to work for myself when I want and I want to feel free not to work, enjoy myself being with my family! Recently I read an article how anyone can make ROI (revenue on investment) at about 1000% in a month on domain parking. To start you need only 10$ (to buy a domain).

It looked great, but too great. That's why I did my own calculations on domain profit form domain parking.

Let's say we buy a domain for average price 10 $ (as Moniker.com offers .com domain for ~ 10$, .net domain for ~ 6$, .org domain for 11$ and .info domain for ~ 5$). We park it at Sedo.com or Parked.com (I prefer Parked.com, cause it is based by Yahoo, and most of my domains have many Yahoo links). I could calculate for a maximum revenue, but i would calculate for minimum revenue. Because I want to show you, that YOU can do this as your secondary way of income and after some time, when you'll fell confident to work only for yourself, it will become you first income way. Usually we won't get much from parking on first month, let it be 4$. After first month our domain's keywords and look would be optimized and Click rate would be greater. But I won't tell you - "from now on you'll be a millionaire". Of course we can be, but a little bit later. It depends on how hard you'll try to do this, and how many bucks you going to put in.

So let's start calculating ..

First we buy domain research services (there are many vendors and later I'll write some reviews) for 37$ per month. We buy a number of domains (let it be 30 for the start). First month you should get average 4$. And for other months we'll do calculations. We count on average unique visitors - 600 per month (it will be 20 visitors per day, 1 visitor per 1,2 hours). If average click rate is 10%, which is low rate, usually it is at about 20-25%, and average pay per click rate 0,10 $, which usually is at 0.25-0.5$ - we get 6$ from one domain per month. Remember you bought a domain for 10 $, and you get revenue of 10 $ in 2 months.

We bought 30 domains first month, so we would get 30*10 = 300 $ in 2 months. What it should be for 12 months ? After optimization your domain's click rate should go high. As working on minimum case, we count on 2% profit increase. But it can as high as 20 %. But let's stay on minimum case. After 12 months we will have ~ 2310 $. Remember we started from 337$. So we have ROI (revenue on investment) equal to 685%.

Imagine if you would buy domains next month and then next month? What should you get after that?

Domain Flipping - 10 Things You Need to Know When Purchasing a Domain Name to Flip!

By Ryan Van Buuren

4 Simple Steps to Take Before Registering a Profitable Domain Name

By Nizzura Sofea

A domain name can act as a brand of your website. Thus, great consideration must be taken while you are choosing a domain name. There are a lot of tips and guide available to assist you in searching for the best domain name of your website. some of the characteristics of a good domain name include related to your website, easy to remember, unique without a huge amount of similarities with other domain names and short.

Once you have chosen a domain name that suits your website and you, the next step is to register the domain name. When you are registering the domain name, it is critical to make sure that the domain name belongs to you and not the hosts. There are several advantages of owning your own domain name for your website including you own the name for as long as you want and you can even bring along the domain name if you are changing a web host.

A domain name is important for a website because:

1. If you are the owner of the domain name, you will be able to take it along with you to the new web host if you are changing one. Even if the URL to your website has changed, the visitors can still search from the domain name and will be directed to your new website.

2. It gives more credibility especially if your website is business-based.

4. It helps to build a respectable website to attract good advertisers or sponsors.

Before registering your domain name, there are a couple of points to remember:

Come up with a few domain names instead of only one because the one might have been taken. If you are unsure on how to choose good domain names for your website, try search around for guidelines and tips.

Obtain the DNS IP address, primary nameserver and secondary nameserver from the web host. This information usually can be found in the FAQs section.

Get your payment details such as credit card ready as it is required for getting a domain name upon application.

For independent applicants without a web host, there are some registrars that allow you to park your domain name at a temporary website. However, if you have a web host, you can go straight away to the registrars and apply for the domain name with the required information.

This step is best done as quickly as possible as the domain name that you are intending to brand your website might be taken by someone else. Once it is taken, you will have to use another name. Thus, to avoid missing such opportunity you must be quick to gather all information required and register without hesitating.

How to Sell a Domain Name in 4 Easy Steps

By Fabian Tan

Selling domain names can be fun and profitable. However you need to know how to do it. This list will show you how to sell a domain name and make a profit from it.

1. Place a value on a domain name

This is necessary before you can sell it at a profit. When you sell a domain name, you are selling a property and there are ways to go about doing that. Decide on the value of your domain name. How much money did you make out of it? Is the topic it covers a hot topic at the moment?

2. Decide if you are going to sell it yourself or have someone else sell it for you

This is imperative to beginning the selling process for the domain name. The domain name, once valued will become a piece of property that can be worth a lot of money. You can spend the time looking for buyers for your product, or you can hire someone else to work for you on a commission basis.

3. Create an active site for the domain name in question

By setting up an active site, you are much more likely to sell the domain, than if you just simply creating a web page only. Bear in mind this is a good way to sell a domain name. When buyers see a complete site, it is more valuable in their eyes. This move is also likely to fetch you a higher price.

4. Closing the deal on a sale

By closing the deal on this sale, the domain name transfers to someone else and you see a profit. This is one of the best ways to sell this type of domain name. Instruct the buyer as to how you are going to transfer it.

This is just a basic primer on how to sell a domain name. This is the simplest version of how to sell one. This gives you the basics to be able to sell and to profit from this type of venture quickly and easily.

Domain Resellers

6.02.2009

By Carolyn Clayton

When searching for domain companies, web design companies, internet marketing companies you will be spoilt for choice as there are so many. The same can be said for domain resellers which make the domain business a lot more competitive. Many web design or marketing companies have now become domain resellers as they buy so many domains themselves it makes sense to become a reseller and buy domains at cheap prices and then pass these savings on to their customers.

So what is a domain reseller? A domain reseller is someone or company that have registered to become a domain reseller and that can now sell domains. The difference between buying a domain of a proper domain registrar compared to buying them off a reseller is basically cheaper prices and better customer service. Resellers are agents for domain registrars. Because resellers buy their domains in bulk they are able to buy them at a cheaper price and sell them cheaper than the domain companies. Sounds confusing? It really isn't. Resellers are just like middle men, they act as agents for the domain companies. They buy domains in bulk at wholesale price and then sell them on. Simple!

If you are seriously considering becoming a domain reseller then you need to find yourself an ICANN Accredited Registrar. When a domain company becomes ICANN registered they are known as a trusted and reliable domain company. This is because ICANN( the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, one of whose jobs is to manage the assignment of domain names and IP addresses) keep the domain name system working and stable.

When a domain company is listed as ICANN registered you know that the domain company has been given the thumbs up the ICANN. In the world of domains this is a serious pat on the back. And it doesn't come cheap; it costs domain companies a lot of money to be classed as ICANN Accredited Registrars. There are hundreds of ICANN-accredited registrars worldwide so it is worth looking at a few and finding out which ones offer the best reseller packages.

Anyone can become a reseller but most resellers are companies that already have an internet based business such as Web Design companies and Search Marketing companies. But you don't have to have this type of business, you might just like to sell domains and going through the domain reseller option is the best, simplest and cheapest option.

Carolyn is the webmaster for Discount Domains Ltd, an ICANN accredited registrar offering Domain Reseller Programs.

The Domain Age and Search Engine Rankings

By Sean Shahin

The length of your web site domain registration will affect SEO, yes or no? Must you renew your domains for a long period of time, 3 years for example? If you want to stay ahead of your competition, then you might consider looking at the length of time your competitor has registered its domain. If your competitor has generally renewed its domain for 1or 2 years, you might consider registering your domain for five or ten years. While putting off your domain's expiration dates may help your SEO, keep in mind that this will be only a very small victory when it comes to SEO and rankings.

It's good sense to register your domains for at least ten years. You may not want to deal with the process of renewing them every year. It will be best to obtain the domains that you want to keep for a while and renew then on a five to ten year plan.

If your domains expired, there are good chances that someone will register your domains immediately after they expired. For whatever reason, you couldn't renew your domain, someone watching a list of expiring domains will try to get the online business that you've built for years. H/she knows that there are good amount of traffic they can have simply by renewing your old domain.

If you want to stay ahead of the competition, you should register or renew your domains for at least 10 years. Currently, Network Solutions (www.netsol.com) is the only registrar offering the 100 years option, which costs $999.00. GoDaddy (www.godaddy.com), currently offers to renew or register a domain name for ten years, at a discount of $6.95 per year.

Whatever You Wanted to Know About Expired Domain Auctioning Strategies

By John Khu

Domain trading professionals, who are in possession of a series of domains names, make it a habit to dispose them off by using a number of techniques and strategies. Expired domain auctioning is probably the most lucrative, attractive, profitable and simple method of selling domain names. Auctioning is an interesting option for people who wish to double or even treble the asking price and earn a hefty amount of profit as a result. Expired domain auctioning is a process of offering good domain names to the highest bidder in a fiercely contested auctioning process.

Expired domain auctioning is an internationally accepted form of selling good expired domains, where a domain trader will offer appealing expired domains to interested bidders. If you have good domains in your possession, you can try out this method to make some extra money. Several factors and parameters affect expired domain auctioning and you may consider auctioning under the following conditions:

1) How good and appealing your expired domains are? Do you feel that they can help the person who buys them at an inflated price?

2) Do you have an appraisal study carried out on the domains auctioned by you? Appraisal studies will help add a real value to your expired domains because a typical appraisal study provides sensitive information on the real worthiness of domain, its history, previous activities, and traffic, if any.

3) Do you feel that you are offering a domain that can help the buyer to flip it into a viable web site?

Expired domain auctioning is an intelligent game, where you will be promoting your domain to thousands of domain buyers, who always make it a point to buy only the best among the lot. Before putting your domains under auction, you may also wish to conduct a detailed research on the feasibility of selling the expired domain apart from studying the market place, how buyers act and behave, and understand different extraneous forces that influence the general mood of the market.

Many web portals help both the seller and buyers of expired domain names to transact in a very safe and secure ambience. Some of the well-known expired domain web portals are:

a) Pool
b) Snapnames
c) Enom
d) Namewinner

One of the best-known expired domain auctioning sites for your expired domain names is eBay Inc. This is a busy online auctioning place where thousands of people jostle for a breathing space and a firm foothold. E Bay is a great web portal that offers a special and innovative process that permits people to sell domains in a highly competitive and rigorously active auction process. The entire auctioning process is highly efficient and completely automated to provide a trouble free auctioning experience to both the buyer and seller. The highest bidder for the domain will have to honor the agreement by paying the bid money.

However, you may have to follow and obey a number of clauses and regulations before auctioning the domain for sale. The expired domain that you wish to sell should be top class and must carry a high value with them. Three or four lettered domain names could fetch you very good bid value, because they are the current hot favorite items in the market. Interested parties may also ask you to provide an appraisal report on the domain on sale.

Several enterprising expired domain auctioning web portals allow you to sell your domains through an elaborate auctioning process. Sites like Afternic or Sedo or GreatDomains provide a highly accomplished auctioning process using which you can dispose of your extra stock of domains in exchange for a small commission payable to the web portals. It is quite possible to sell your domain names to large business enterprises and corporations, who keep looking for very good domains. However, ensure that you are violating some other's copyrights and trademarks. Expired domain auctioning is a very lucrative process of getting rid of your excessive domain stock, and with luck you can reap a rich harvest provided you have the right set of domains.

Installment 2 in the Series - How to Get Your Website Seen on the Internet? - Your Domain Name

By Thomas C Schueneman

Where do I begin? We'll I guess that depends on if your just starting out or already have a website. I'll start you out at the very beginning, your domain name. What's a domain name you ask? It's that stuff that follows www and comes before .com. You'll probably use it as your company name if you can find a domain name that fits and isn't already taken. You can search for availability at many domain registrars on the internet. One of the best known is Godaddy.com. Your hosting company may also be able to supply the domain name. Never the less choose a company that is likely to be around for the long run. Not that you would loose your domain name if they went out of business but it could make it difficult to manage during bad times.

Your domain name is the first step and it's a major one. Why? Because it is the first thing a search engine web crawler will see. Your choice of domain name won't mean the difference between success or failure but you want to take advantage of choosing the best name possible. It's one factor out of dozens that you can control.

Let's say your business is selling fish. You might think a good domain name would be oceansdelite.com, but stop a minute to think. How many people looking to buy fish would ever type in "oceans delight" into a search engine? Not many unless they have already come across your name somewhere else, like the phone book, business card, or newspaper ad. In that case they won't be searching the internet for a place to buy fish will they? How about .freshfish.com? That probably would trigger a search engine to put you in the results a lot higher than oceansdelight.com. Lets suppose that when you go to your favorite domain store that "freshfish.com" isn't available. You might research that domain to find out who owns it and contact them to see if they might be willing to sell it at a reasonable cost, or you can try some domain variations. You could try fresh-fish.com, "fresh_fish.com", "freshfishtoday.com", "fresh-fish-seafood.com", or you could use .net or .biz. I think you get the idea. I realize that when you have to give someone you URL (domain name) verbally it can be annoying to double check that they have it right every time, but having the best search engine friendly domain name is worth it.

Here's something to try. Check out your competition on Google, search your most prominent keyword or keyphrase in Google search and take a look at the results numbers at the top right hand corner of the page. This will give you an idea of the task at hand. Only 30 or less websites will be listed in the first three pages of the results. If you're not in the top thirty your chances of being clicked on are about 10% or less. It's going to be a tuff job but it can be done. You won't get all your keywords in the top 30 but you can have the majority. You'll even have some in the top 10 and maybe some will be #1.

A final note for this installment: If your company name is "Oceans Delight" that won't keep you from having freshfish.com as a domain name. Lots of companies have domain names different than their company name.

The next installment will be choosing keywords, web creation software, and a hosting company. All of which are critical decisions you'll have to make.

Can Cyber Squatters Really Be Stopped?

6.01.2009

By Joseph Nyamache

Do you ever think about cyber squatters and how they can affect you? Read on you might be surprised. First of all as you very well know, it's your domain name that identifies you and in particular your site. For most people it might be hard to think that their domain name may be stolen, but that is completely possible!

Essentially cyber squatters are looking to steal your identity on the web and they can actually do it very easily. For instance, if you are listed at Myownsite.com, they might go and register Myownsite.biz, or Myownsite.org. When they have this, they will contact you and try to sell you these domain names and the site for quite a lot of money.

So what happens if you refuse? That is a good question; this is where things start to get ugly. Your refusal might mean that a competitor can get a site that will take type in traffic from you. You might find that you lose business over the confusion and that you might lose customers as well!

But all is not lost and you really should not let the cyber squatters to harass you, here is what you may do for instance; First make sure that you are the one that people have to go through to get authorization to do this. For instance, head to your domain name registrar and make sure that you lock in authorized entries of your claim of other domain names. You can easily buy them yourself and you will of course be able to control what happens.

You can arrange it so that if anyone is interested in these sites that they will be given your contact information and then make sure that you check with your registrar for the time frame that you have available; otherwise, you won't be able to check if the versions of your site ending in things like .com, .net, or .org are active. Make sure that you don't loose these domain name twins.

In conclusion do not let cyber squatters put you in a bad position; you have worked very hard to get where you are and you can work hard to keep of these guys too. You can do this by getting the authorization and the right to your domain name lookalikes and you will rest much easier.

Stop! You Are Just Minutes Away From Learning How to Make Money Selling Domain Names

By Jose Barreda

First of all, find a good keyword. When I say keyword, I mean a keyword with high demand (search volume) and low supply (competition). A good tool you can use for this is "Word Tracker", since it offers a free trial. But after you profit from selling your domain, you can upgrade to the paid version since free ones are very inaccurate.

Once you have a good keyword, try to get the domain with that exact same keyword. Always choose a dot com domain because they are more popular and are worth more money. Find a reliable web hosting company so you can host your web site containing your domain name. You have to do this because you need to drive some traffic to your domain so you can sell it at a very good price.

You might want to look for a hosting package that offers hosting, a web site builder, and a domain name. This will save you a lot of time and stress and you will not have to transfer anything later.

Before you buy your domain name, double check it is the same keyword you just found. If your selected keyword is not available as a domain name, make some alterations to it. For example, if your keyword is "candles" and it is not available, you can try "candles101" or some other alterations.

The next step is to build a website for you domain name. It is always better if you build a multi-page site (a site with more than one page) since these type of site are more attractive to search engines. Write a few articles related to the keyword and build site pages. Make sure all your content is unique. Sign up for an AdSense account and for some affiliate programs, this way you will be making money out of the website too.

Then focus on building traffic to your site. You can use some free methods to drive traffic such as article marketing, or some paid ones such as pay-per-click marketing. Also, get some links to your website.

If you are getting a decent amount of traffic to your site, you'll get an Alexa rating. If you thing your rating is good, then look for a domain name appraiser and see how much your domain can go for. By doing this you'll get an idea of how much your domain is worth. If the number appears to be too low, don't get disappointed. It can be because there are people who care more about the traffic your domain name is receiving over the SEO elements of it.

Whenever you are ready to sell or auction your domain, just do it and if you want to include your original website, you can do it too. Once you sell the domain you will need to transfer it to the new webmaster's account. You can contact your hosting company for more help about this.

By Helen Cox

As the Internet grows and expands there always seems to be new ventures and ideas cropping up; this is especially true when it comes to aspects that revolve around the purchasing of domains and the building of new websites. So what does the world of domains and the Internet have to offer us now?

With the growth and expansion of the Internet domain reselling has came to the forefront and has been helped by many website design companies who offer the service of domain reselling. It is thanks to these website design companies that domain reselling has expanded and many of these domain reseller companies are now stand alone Internet businesses, but just what is this domain reseller business all about?

The companies who become the domain resellers provide registration of available domain names for their clients and often also engage in the process of acquiring expired domains from a drop registrar for later resale; so selling domain names as a reseller for an established registrar is a great solution for webmasters registering many domains, and a great money making opportunity for anyone on the Web.

Becoming a domain reseller holds great business potential. Whether you're a web designer, developer or search marketing service, or you're looking to establish your own domain management service, you could benefit from the help of an established provider. Many domain name registrars will offer reseller programs to any individual or business who wishes to sign up. Whether you are hoping to become a domain reseller business or you are an individual or business who are wishing to make the most from using a domain reseller you will be giving yourself the added advantage of being able to use a range of tools which are available thanks to domain reseller programmes such as unlimited domain hosting and includes a range of added services such as search engine optimisation, load balancing and exchange email.

The basic idea of a domain reseller is to drum up more business for a registrar as the initial registrar will still take care of all the services such as registration and customer support; however the buyer pays the reseller and may even access the domain name control panel at the reseller's site, the domain name is actually registered with the reseller's parent registrar.

If you are looking to do business with a domain reseller company then you need to ensure that the domain reseller is trusted and the best way of ensuring this is finding out if the domain reseller is ICANN accredited. You should also do your research into your chosen domain reseller by finding out about their prices to see if they are competitive, provide exceptional customer service and have a state-of-the art IT infrastructure.

So for the latest when it comes to gaining a domain find out more about domain reselling and what it can do for you.
