Internationalized domain names are taking the world by storm at the moment and in this article I'll tell you how not to miss the boat. Think about domains for a minute. They're all in English but we English-speakers never question that.

Now imagine if they were in a local language like Chinese or Arabic? People prefer to read and write on websites in their own language so, logically, this goes for domains too. Why compromise with a rough phonetic version in English of a local word when you can spell it out exactly as it should be.

The only reason that we all type our domains in English is because the technology for full multi-language domains around the world is only just starting to become available. And the indications are that surfers all around the world are adopting IDNs more and more as each month passes by.

Personally, I have already made a few thousand out of IDNs but that is small fry compared to some other people that I know.

But the best thing is, it is definitely not too late to get into IDNs and you can still catch the boat. For instance, at this moment in time, Cyrillic character IDNs are doing really well in Russia as Russians just can't get enough of them.

There is also an impending worldwide auto-update for Internet Explorer 7 very shortly and you can expect the value of IDNs to go up even further after this date so my advice to you is to get in now before it is too late - already multinational companies like Nissan are advertising on television and quoting an IDN domain. It's only a matter of time before all companies are using them.
